The best moto, the best ride, the best music!!! I have 2005 950 adventure, and I love it!!!
I have the same motorbike.....no electronics, no maps, no comfort......you feel her, you fear her......but the worse is the weather the more you wanna go with her and ask to bring you everywhere...until you endure...because she will endure......heavy, steady and thirsty!
just picked up a 990R after a hiatus from riding. Yeah, I could've gone newer generation, but he visceral experience of this bike is sublime and, to me, a very big part of why I got it. I think I'm going to enjoy this relationship. Excellent video Brian.
The "R" is a great bike! My Baja is basically an "R" with a little less suspension travel. I agree with you about the newer bikes. There's nothing out there that I would consider to be an upgrade.
I am the new owner of a 08' KTM 950 SE and have to say that this was the purest and most honest video's i have watched of the hundreds before i bought mine. Who cares what it costs or what other "Experts" think as long as you have a sh*t eatin grin when you ride who cares what they think.
Agree. I have an 07 950SE and a 2017 1090r. So much more fun than all the other bikes I've owned. Even my vmax👍
Awesome video Brian. Totally sums up the call of the open road, the road less travelled and the Mighty KTM 990! what a fantastic machine! thanks for sharing
Here`s my story. I`ve never been riding a motorcycle. Never in my life. This year I`ve decided that I want to change that, so in spring of this year I bought my first motorcycle. Transalp 650. Fixed the thing up and went for my first adventures trough the woods and trails. The little Honda was and is a nice, lovely machine - nimble, yet forgiving, comfortable and super reliable. I love that bike with all my heart. One day my riding buddy offered me to take his 990 ADV for a spin. In the beginning I was a bit intimidated by the sheer size, weight and power of a KTM but I took a leap of faith and decided to try the thing out. Compared with Transalp, KTM was literally out of this world. It`s like comparing walking with flying. My ride with 990 ADV lasted for 10 minutes but I already knew that this is the one bike to rule them all. Fast forward for 2 more months and in the middle of June I found a sketchy deal - 950ADV without MOT and in non running condition. Again I took a leap of faith and took the thing home. Cleaned the carbs, fixed the low oil pressure issues and now i roam around the local woods on a 2003. KTM 950ADV. I know that it`s not the wisest of decisions to buy this sort of bike in the first ever motorcycle season but I can`t help myself, i`m totally obsessed with it. The way KTM rides is just insane. The raw, menacing and unforgiving experience just reminds me to treat it with respect, to take things slow, to focus on technical riding not flying around with wide open throttle and just to enjoy the world`s greatest rally bike together with awesome trails and woods i`m riding around. I know that there are faster, newer bikes. I know that people love their GS`es and Teneres, they truly are great bikes, but the greatest bike of them all is the one that you enjoy riding the most. For me it`s the 950ADV. Happy riding and happy wrenching, friends! Ride safe and I see you on the trails!
@@reinisrudzitis4802 Cheers!
... and there I thought I was the only one staring at my 990 in the garage, man I love that bike (30th Dakar Edition), and you are right, it attracts attention where ever I go.... cheers
I too have the 30th Anniversary Dakar Edition.... the only bike I have kept long term and brings a smile to my face every time I ride it, every time. Bold statement from a professional motorcyclist of over 3 decades but the 990 really is a cool bike and, in my opinion, the KTM Adventure to own.
I’m in the 30th Anniversary Dakar owners club too. Fits me so well.
I enjoyed this video, the sound, and the unique camera angles. Good stuff! I have a 990 and 790. Each are great. 990 sounds badass! Cheers!
Cheers!
After buying sport touring bikes every year, I got a 14 1190S and have owned it for 6 years. Great bike that does everything!
Pure motorcycle, pure freedom. Pure beauty of living in our time
Much love, friend! 😊
Couldn't agree more. Cheers!
I feel exactly the same.Once i got my 990 it opened a whole lot of possibilities!
Well said Brian! And from time to time we shall remember that this motorbike/project is Fabrizio Meoni's gift to us🙏🏻🙏🏻
Such an amazing gift.
Ktm 990 was the best one ever made!!!!!!! 790 is awesome with all electronics and assistance!!! But if you want brute power without electronics, 990 still rules!!!!!!
Agreed.
Mad true 😄
950 better
@@ΛουκιανόςΚωστοπουλος I agree!!! I had a 950 and I still miss it!!!!
The 950 is even better... More grunt...
I love how one minute you can be going down the motorway fully loaded at 80 then the next on a single track having a blast
One of the positive side-effects of being such a big bike: you can still ride dirt fully loaded and she barely notices the extra weight.
Brian Crumpacker my 1190 does that very well even with passenger off-road. A lot of riding friends say I should just get a exc enduro bike but taking close family members off-road with me has created lasting memories. Enduro bikes are solo rides.
I stand around and drink beer 🍻 and stare at it and its totally normal! Priceless! Cheers!!
Excelent video Brian, you described very precisely with a short video and the exact words, the feeling of thousands of riders around the world, I laughed when you said that you just sit with a beer in your hand just to contemplate your bike, cause I do the exact same thing! Congratulations and greetings from Baja, Mexico.
Cheers Carlos!
Goosebumps bud. Loved it. There is just something so unique about these machines which cannot be described in words. I will keep and ride mine until he disintegrates.
It's like riding a buffalo, and they are their own stampede.
Very nice flowing video, nice message too. I liked your toast outro as well.
Thanks Brian. My "sign-off" is in every one of my videos.
I just LOVE the sound of that bike
Me too, thank you. It's nice to be inspired by the bike that you're on.
I recognize those roads because they’re in my back yard! Ice House, Wentworth, 11 Pines, Foresthill every weekend on my 990 ADV.
Such a great place to be. I hope to see it again soon.
I used to have a 950. Joint equal the most fun and exciting bike I've had. Also a tie for best handler., maybe first place by a whisker. I agree the 950/990 is just as good on-road as a road bike.
I enjoyed this video.
990 has the best soundtrack IMO.
I agree.
These first 2 minutes exactly describe how I ride and feel on a adventure. You start off standing up, feeling the raw being between your legs. Just cruised around until it's warmed up, and then then you slam the living shit out of that LC8!
That's how we ride.
Feelings, its just this the life!!
Why did I fell in love with such a bike. A low mileage 2013 is almost as expensive as a 2018/2019...Doesn't make things easy.
They are worth loving. This model is simply a beast, with no ABS, traction control or extra electronics to fail. I have not seen anything new that I think would be better.
The answer is yes. I have two, the 08 in orange and 2012 in blue. In the midwest, they turn heads, because hardly anyone has one.
Great presentation in all aspects. Enjoyed it,. They are an incredible machine, just upgraded from a Tenere XT660Z to the 990 and I'm super impressed.
These can be very maintenance intensive, but it's so worth the trouble for the performance.
The LC8 with 95 % Paris-Dakar genes - V2 pure fun
👍
Great video , love the 990 and ktm ... I’m a proud owner of a 690 that will be with me for a long time ...
Right on! Cheers! *clink
Great video Brian. I have a 2012 990ADV myself. Waiting for the continuation. Cheers
Thank you Ricardo. At some point we'll have to say "enough is enough" and take our freedom back. There is no Covid in the forests.
Dude you made a great video and this bike deserves all the appreciation
Adventure!!!what life is here for
Great emotional one! Tnx. And safe miles.]
Oh and I agree. I have never wanted a sportbike. My next bike will be an adventure one.
This is an incredible video. Thank you mate 🤙🏻
Thank you! I hope to get out again soon.
Best bike I ever had. mine was 2007, i now have a 2021 Africa Twin and it feels on road very similar to the 990. But still not as good.
Awesome video! Computers and electronics in the new adventure bikes have destroyed the passion of riding, so my plan is to find this exact bike, thank you for sharing!
That's exactly why I bought this one as well. No ABS, no traction control, just a beast.
@@briancrumpacker finding a Baja edition might be difficult, but finding a well maintained standard model and adding all the Baja additions them myself should not be too difficult...I hope!
I have to say I own one it’s the most enthralling bike I’ve ever owned raw yet smooth exciting but relaxing I feel invincible when I ride it turns heads like nothing I’ve ever owned I stand comfortably at 80 mph down the interstate I hate coming back home I just want to keep going and going to never stop to ride without end to see what I have never seen before to live to ride to ride to live I will never part with this bike it is now a part of me and me to it ride on ride long
Классное видео, показан дух байкерской свободы и любовь впечатлений от двухколесной техники. А хозяину и далее получать положительных эмоций от своих байков 👋
Thank you! I'm happy that you enjoyed it. Peace and bikes to you, Sir.
Let’s face it riding a sports bike at speed on the road become stressful and you become angry . I have much more fun on the trails on my knackered 2005 transalp than I do flying about on my sports bike. There is something about accelerating down a dusty trail seeing the dust trail behind you. For me any way.
couldn't hear the bike over the Star-Gate soundtrack. But really, very awersome vid!
Thanks Jo! Not sure that just the motor and wind sound would make for a good watch. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Got a 950sm in 2008, never looked back.
To answer your question about sportbikes being dead, my answer would be, "Depends on the age of the rider. " In my 30's and 40's while living in Southern CA during the late 1980;s and early 1990's, I only rode sportbikes. I lived in Seal Beach and would load them in my van and drive to the base of Angeles Crest Highway, unload the bike, put on leathers, boot, and gloves to spend the early morning racing with friends up to Newcomb's Ranch for breakfast, then we would race up to Wrightwood to have lunch. Following lunch, back to Newcomb's, then back to the van to load up the bike, and back to home at the beach. Another favorite sportbike adventure was to take the bike/van up to Mammoth Lakes, CA, then race over Tioga Road to Yosemite Valley with a ridding buddy. But after moving to a remote section of CO in 1994, I left sportbikes and moved on to KTM 350 and 500 street legal dirt bikes. Recently, my love of high performance brought me to a 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R. I prefer fewer electronics, lighter weight, and the beautiful rally style headlight and fairing over the newer 790/890/1190/1290 bikes. I am 71 now, and use the 2023 KTM 350 EXC-F for moderate to technical riding, and use the 1090 R to ride fast on paved roads to get to milder and less technical trails, usually in beautiful Aspen forest areas. All my years of riding has taught me that multiple bikes are required to allow the varied roads and off-road trails available, but in my case I only need two bikes! Great video Brian, thank you for bringing back all those awesome memories of my sportbike days!
My first 30 years riding experience was on sport bikes. On this beast I am passing the sport bikes on the twisty backroads here in California. I also have the 500 EXC-F for the trails. Thank you for the feedback, Sir!
990/950 by far best locking adv bikes from ktm
Great motorcycling !!!!
Thanks ✌️
The white Baja/Dakar is the best looking 990 Adventure.
I totally agree.
Love my 950 Adventure. Turns heads everywhere. Mine is black but I dig your white. Baja Edition ?
Yessir, the Baja Edition. Just like the R with a lower stance.
Looks like you have been missed brother.
I drink beer and stare at mine too. Can’t wait to do that in proximity again.
Beats the shit out of driving a Scion, no doubt . Even on the “Halfrica”.
Beer! ...I mean, Bikes!
NICE VIDEO MY FRIEND..YOU HAVE CONVINCED ME TO BUY ONE & GET RID OF MY SUZI DR650
Very cool, man. I would love to ride with you 👍🏻
Cool!
Would you share your camera setup?
Amazing how stable it is
Ty
Hey Andre, I'm just using a couple of GoPro Hero 7 Blacks.
Brian Crumpacker Awesome! I'm planning to come back to adv bikes since a long time riding sport lols
Your channel is helping me lotz
Thanks
THANK YOU.
I LOVE AUSTRIA TOO
AND MOTOR BIKING .
I HAVE AND AFRICA TWIN SIMILAR TO THE KTM 999 ADVENTURE R .
AND YES I LOVE IT TOO
Bikes are badass.
Love this video... so true 😎
👏👏👏awesome👌...
Thank you! Cheers!
That area looks familiar, is that 11 Pines off of Wentworth Springs? Nevermind got another 3 seconds in and called out French Meadows love riding up in that area the ridge is awesome!
Yessir, this is an amazing area to ride in.
I bought my 990 new in 2007, rode 85K miles, and bought my 1090 new in 2018, now at 18k miles. Hmmmmm....what KTM will it be in 2030? I've never ridden a "real sportbike", and I ain't missing a thing!
Welcome 2 adventure
Dude can you mention exactly which high fender used in front by writing it down here..
What mount are you using for your gps/phone over the dash?
That's the Garmin Zumo 590LM on the Ram dash mount. I would not recommend this unit however, as it's always been a glitchy piece of junk.
Since 2008 I've called her BedyG for Big Dumb Grin...the look on my face every time I turn over that LCB, power slide her through the gravel twisties or crawl her up a rocky trail She was my 1st "dirt bike" and with a little respect and patience, she never let me down. Chances are anyone that does not absolutely love riding a 990 has probably never ridden one more than around the block. I'd pay a pretty price if KTM went back to the basics and gave us a "simple" liter bike again, but I doubt that will happen. BTW, if you have one and like to take it off-road, and have not had the suspension redone, you owe it to yourself (and the bike) to invest the couple K. I wish I did it 10 years ago...you won't regret it. Thanks for the great vid...think I'll head out for a ride now.
SPS suspension goodies installed many years ago. Must do.
Hi very nice video,i have 2012 990 adv so i think there is the only thing which i dont like when the bike is heated right foot is start to burning.
I almost always wear boots and gear, so I've not had that happen.
Bela máquina, belas imagens!!! Top
Thank you Leandro!
Nice little rip, thanks for sharing! Heard all y’all up in frisco have to “shelter in place”... take care dude! 🤙🏻
Thank you Dan. I think that camping might count as social isolation. I may just bug out.
Bad ass video✌️
🔝
awesome motorbike ;)
The best!
I want a KTM 990 now
Hi mate I’ve got bought myself a 990. Question about your high fender kit, did you just drill holes into a front fender and screw straight onto the triple clamp or did you get an adapter? Thanks
Congratulations! Mine is mounted on a steel bracket which holds my Rigid LED lights. Last time I looked, I couldn't find the bracket again. I would check with KTM Twins or Rottweiler Performance for a kit.
Hey great video, i have a 2010 990R and love it. Hey how did you get the shot behind you facing forward? Looks great !
I have my camera mounted on top of my pannier.
Great video. What year built is it?
It's the 2013 Adventure Baja.
Great video! Could you please share the high front fender setup? I'm looking to buy one but I'm not sure which one could fit. Thanks!
Thank you! I would check with Rottweiler Performance or KTM Twins to see what kits they have now for the fenders.
It may be cheaper than a Scion, but can it do 90 at 11:00PM down Palomares Canyon? OK yeah it can definitely do that.
Nice vid! How do you have those aux lights mounted?
Do NOT use aluminum; quick fatigue and *snap. A steel adapter mounted to the fork crown on top of the high-fender.
I miss my 950.
How did you learn to ride offroad with an adventure bike? I'm hesitant to buy adventure because I'm note sure I could ride it offroad.
I started with a LOT of sportbike experience and a background in downhill mountain biking. If you ride at your own pace and practice some skills, you will do just fine. I'm still learning.
@@briancrumpacker Thx for your answer! I have a second motorcycle (Kawa ER5) which I bought for the salty winter roads. Now spring has started I sometimes take it on sandy / muddy roads but I do not go very fast on it because of poor traction. Do you think traction will be noticeably better on Adventure with its original tires on it? I'm also a bit afraid of the higher weight of ADV offroad...
Damn dude, where have you been? How am I supposed to live my life vicariously through your riding and camping videos if you don't post. When is our next trip?
If work shuts down, the next trip will be REALLY soon.
Great video. Suscribed
Awesome, thank you!
What make are the fork protectors and wheel fender? Cheers.
They are all KTM, from their smaller dirt bikes.
R u able to ride in CA during Pandemic?
We are on orders to "Shelter In Place" by the State/Government. " All travel, including, but not limited to, travel on foot, bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, automobile, or public transit, except Essential Travel and Essential Activities is prohibited."
I will work from home for as long as I can get paid, but then I will escape to the national forest. Be will Sid.
Brian Crumpacker u too
Which front fender is that?
It's from a 690. There are tons of options out there.
The only trump card in the mix is the 950 Enduro R!!!! If touring is not your thing, then big enduro wil never be ruled by anything else!!!!!!
The 950 Super Enduro is a capable beast indeed.
Cheaper than a Scion 🤣🤣 That's it I'm getting an adventure bike. And time to start posting more vids for the fans 🤙
Was offline for a bit moving, but I'll start back up soon. Hit me up!
Nice, what year is your bike? I want one 😫😫😢
It's a 2013 KTM 990 Adventure Baja.
Very normal!!!!
did you buy this bike in southern cali? i swear that is my bike i sold like 6 years ago hahahahaha
I did. Then I had to spend a crap ton of time and money to rebuild and replace all the bent, broken and stripped parts that came with it. Buyer beware.
@@briancrumpacker wow dude must have been a horrible experience for you. I honestly cant recall any bent or borken parts but you did buy a used motorcycle that was used as an adventure bike. So sorry you got ripped off..
I'm watching for me one at a good price
What tires are you running in this video and how do like them? Just bought my first adventure bike last month and looking to get some type of 50/50 tire next. Just curious and thank you!
These tires are the Heidenau K60 Scouts. They've done well for me in California warm, but are not good in the wet or cold. I will switch to the Motoz tires next.
Did u do anything to the suspenion or is it stock or plan on doing anything i am looking at one these 13 bajas getting rid of my 18 ktm 500 for longer rips i keep my 300xc and the harlys
I had the suspension sprung for my weight and the valving done at Superplush Suspension in SF. Such a HUGE improvement over stock.
the buffalo sounds good!
I love this thing. Thank you Jon.
I drink beer and stare at my babies two 04, 06 950
Cheers!
I own a modified 990S 270mm travel and lots of off road mods. The video name is a little odd. In no way does a 990 adventure in any version do what a sport bike can. That would be like comparing a land rover to a Porsche GT3. Yes both can go on tar seal but one is way more efficient at it. Similarly the Porsche GT3 can not go off road. Both have their place.
The 990 can perform just as well on the street at speeds below 110 mph, and there's no place on the street for that. I'm not comparing anything to track performance.
@@briancrumpacker Hi there, I disagree with that. As I said I own a 990S Adventure. It can Hussle along just fine but it's still vague with a lack of feed back. With it's long travel suspension and 21/18 wheel size combination it just doesn't have that precision and feed back. Plus a sports bike lays down alot more rubber for knee down antics. All this can still be enjoyed on the road. I absolutely love my KTM 990S however. It's amazing where you can take one. From freeway to up the side of mount buster. It doesn't and will never replace the pure aggression of a full fat sport bike however and the 990 Adventure is slow and tame by comparison. I assume you haven't ridden many superbikes. I've had 3 GSXRs, 2 RSV and V4 factory bikes, ZX9 and 10 plus Yamaha R1. I also work in the motorcycle industry. I only mention all this to hopefully try and explain where my opinion is coming from and why I think this way. Thank you
did you change the exhaust? or is the one that brings agency
Remus exhaust.
I make my own trails in the woods on mh xr650l check my channel. Been contemplating a 990 more power 6.gears and a new feeling very tempting
Wow and than you go to eat al mc donald hahahahahah
Taco Bell. B-)
