- I remember when "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" came out like it was yesterday. And now it’s 20 years old!!! I wish I was 20 years old 🤨
Ah, when blink's website converted from the "Mark Tom and Travis Show" site to the new TOYPAJ colours, the video blog (which was a pretty huge deal for 2001 tbh), Napster live leaks of "Please Take Me Home"... I was in Grade 12!! This was full blink fandom, and the record did not disappoint at all.
"Online Songs" was always the track that I'd go to skip (so I could get to "First Date") but then I'd hesitate and just let it play out. It seemed kind of pretentious at the time; literally starting the song with the name "Josie", As if blink had to prove to their fans where they came from. In the end, it turned out to be one of my favourite songs in an album where every track is a favourite song.
I have the Airplane/Red CD version. It's sitting in a shoebox full of high school memories from two decades ago.

a funny thing about this song is that I heard parts of it a loooong time ago (namely the funny intro riff and the chorus) separately on different occasions (maybe from like memes or something), but I never put two and two together, and never knew they were from the same song. Not being super familiar with Blink, this is my first time hearing it in full, and I can say that this is a really cool cover of a pretty cool song lol.
Thank you!! It was the song I always skipped for a long time… Anthem Part II was so dark that following it with First Date seemed much more satisfying. But later on I grew to appreciate the chorus of Online Songs 🤘🏻

Man how do you get that powerful sound with that guitar pick up?
It's a P90! It's a very hot pickup, pushes the midrange a lot. Honestly, through all the years of recording that's one big piece of advice I'd give for getting huge guitar sounds... boost the mids. Lots of people scoop the mids, and I find it has the opposite affect on the final mix that they are looking for.
