I tried the sequels, unfortunately i didn't find them as good as the original. But i learned how to play the song on Acoustic guitar, and its a really beautiful song.
the first 53 seconds were played on the menus and that always calmed me down. I would stay on the last menu before my next mission and just listen to it a few times to unwind and open up before the next op. It's so like what would happen in Nam'. It would be quiet and calm and then someone would trip on a booby trap and all hell would break lose. That is, was, and will forever be the closest they will get to that war without being there.

Let's not forget about Hidden & Dangerous. Two brilliant tactical military shooters by Illusion Softworks, the creators of the first two Mafia games. Sadly they never got around to create Enemy on Sight, a modern day military shooter. Guess the publisher was more interested in Mafia 2 (which sucked compared to Mafia 1).
Mafia 2 sucked becuase 2k did so many changes that fucked the game... If it was on Vávra and his team just like the first one it would have been a whole different story.

I miss those times.. This game was something special for me. something that real life cant ever put me in. A proper feelings of bloody war and separation from the real world.
Just got the ps2 version to re-live some of the memories since the pc days of this game are long gone.. i remember how finicky the windows vista was trying to play this game so id imagine no different on todays pc. Ctf matches on multiplayer were so much fun

I played this game at 9 years old, perhaps even younger. Coupled with Conflict: Vietnam on the PS2 and films such as We Were Soldiers by Mel Gibson made this conflict the most vivid and culturally interesting. Especially during the 60/70s hippie revolution and golden era of music. Such an interesting piece of history and a damn favourite theme of mine. I’m 23 now, nothing will parallel the effort and soul developers put into their games!

Oh the nostalgia! Oh the memories. This game was special part of my childhood. To this day I hold it as one of the pinnacles of FPS genre on par with Half Life(s).
Me and my brother only had the Demo version of the game. So we only had 1 SP-level and this menu theme. Played that level a thousend times! And we will never forget that guitar riff.
Loved this game. Multiplayer was active for years and years - I wonder if it's still going? Anyway, this reminds me of Pearl Jam's Yellow Ledbetter (which was an ode to Hendrix's Little Wing)

Every single modern game developer should take a look at this game and see how to make a good shooter. Relative to modern shooters the amout of enemies you kill during the nime is quite low. It gets you by the balls becouse of perfectly captured atmosphere and carefuly builded suspense when you often walk through jungle meeting little to none enemies and finding traps before you get to some action. Tunnel missions still give me chills when I go bacjk to this game.

I don't know, the beginning is great but the bass and guitar drop is still pretty epic..
Childhood hit my head like a stone now, I miss them immensely not only from this game, but also from so many other PS2 classics. I promise for myself, the first and only console my son goes to during his childhood is going to be the PS2 that I always played and loved...

Let's not forget about Hidden & Dangerous. Two brilliant tactical military shooters by Illusion Softworks, the creators of the first two Mafia games. Sadly they never got around to create Enemy on Sight, a modern day military shooter. Guess the publisher was more interested in Mafia 2 (which sucked compared to Mafia 1).
Mafia 2 sucked becuase 2k did so many changes that fucked the game... If it was on Vávra and his team just like the first one it would have been a whole different story.

I still remember installing this game on my computer, listening to this in the main menu! LOVED it! Then when I pressed start game the game didn't work because my computer was not powerful enough! The main menu music was cool tho 😀

Just got the ps2 version to re-live some of the memories since the pc days of this game are long gone.. i remember how finicky the windows vista was trying to play this game so id imagine no different on todays pc. Ctf matches on multiplayer were so much fun

I played this game at 9 years old, perhaps even younger.
Coupled with Conflict: Vietnam on the PS2 and films such as We Were Soldiers by Mel Gibson made this conflict the most vivid and culturally interesting. Especially during the 60/70s hippie revolution and golden era of music.
Such an interesting piece of history and a damn favourite theme of mine.
I’m 23 now, nothing will parallel the effort and soul developers put into their games!

Oh the nostalgia! Oh the memories. This game was special part of my childhood. To this day I hold it as one of the pinnacles of FPS genre on par with Half Life(s).
Me and my brother only had the Demo version of the game. So we only had 1 SP-level and this menu theme. Played that level a thousend times!
And we will never forget that guitar riff.
Loved this game. Multiplayer was active for years and years - I wonder if it's still going? Anyway, this reminds me of Pearl Jam's Yellow Ledbetter (which was an ode to Hendrix's Little Wing)

Every single modern game developer should take a look at this game and see how to make a good shooter. Relative to modern shooters the amout of enemies you kill during the nime is quite low. It gets you by the balls becouse of perfectly captured atmosphere and carefuly builded suspense when you often walk through jungle meeting little to none enemies and finding traps before you get to some action. Tunnel missions still give me chills when I go bacjk to this game.
