      ..Always thought those were the sappy ass, corny parts they coulda left out. I remember me and my buddies rolling our eyes and just kinda chucklin' at the 'thumbs up...' but the Tears shit?..That chapped our asses. We remembered the original Terminator with absolutely no heart, no soul, no remorse, no mercy and relentless in his mission to terminate his target. He is a machine and shouldn't be askin' about tears and crap when their are folks needin' killin'. It was what put Arnold on the map. In that film the T-800 was reprogrammed to protect John and when being asked about his creation said the chip they are given can be set to learn but Skynet sets it to read only so they are more controllable. The point is that when they can learn, they can start to value life rather than just killing. Plus it helps contrast the hero T-800 from the T-1000 that was still set to kill

    18:50 - That moment where Sarah orders the cop out of the car and IMMEDIATELY puts a bullet in the windshield the second he doesn't comply is my favorite moment in the entire movie. It's such an incredible piece of character transformation for Sarah, you get such a clear idea of the kind of person she's become since the events of the first film.

    • @ym5891
      @ym5891 2 роки тому +10

      It's what makes Sarah Conner one of the most famous and beloved female action heroes in history. She doesn't start out as a badass, nor does she become one just because the story needs her to be. It's a logical and believable evolution with the movie referring back to what she was up to after the first movie; Hanging out with military guys and even showing her doing physical training while locked up in the mental institution.
      It also doesn't make her a superhero; It shows her in fear, anger, frustration in the video interview, the trauma when she meets the terminator again and just runs like hell not even noticing her son to almost becoming like a terminator herself when she nearly kills Dyson.
      But in modern movies in Hollywood, they tend to make all women badass and flawless. A good example ofcourse being Rey in Star Wars. And it just makes them so boring and unbelievable as characters.

    • @KHAOE1

      It's weird, my fave scene is when the terminators both get their hands on the shotgun, and then each tries to muscle it away from the other and nothing happens, so they both just stand there for a moment, each recalculating the fact that the other is unexpectedly much stronger than an average human.
      Sort of like in the first one, when the terminator gets in the truck and tries to drive it but discovers that it's a manual, so then he has to just sit there staring at it for a second, while he recalculates how to make it work.

    Great reaction, pretty interesting.
    To me, Terminator 2 is the greatest action-movie ever made. Not only it's great action movie with everything you want from such a movie (great characters played by great actors, great story, great direction, great effects, great action sequences.) but it also has that little thing that makes a great movie an absolute masterpiece : it bears a message, it asks a question : What makes us, humans, different fro machines ?
    And, as characters, Sarah and the T-800 have mirroring journey : The Terminator is getting more and more human while, until John stops her from killing Dyson, is getting more and more machine-like, to the point where John is the only thing that keeps her human
    Since you think this is a perfect conclusion, I wouldn't recommend you watch the next Terminator movie, none of them are even close from the quality of these 2 first movies.

It always surprises me how new viewers see Robert Patrick in T2, but never know who he is IRL. I've seen other roles very vividly: Ladder 49, The Marine or even the independent release Eye See You. Which I'll bet no one here even knows what that is.
      He also starred in The X-Files TV series after Fox Mulder's departure. There's also a humorous callback to T2 in The Marine where one of the criminals refers to John Cena's character like he's a terminator; right in front of Robert Patrick who angrily glares at him immediately afterwards. Again Madison, I love re-watching these films with you. As a fellow film buff, and someone who watched it at the time, I could make so many comments, but one that stood out was ... :
    50:32 - James Cameron filmed a dream sequence with Michael Biehn and Linda Hamilton, but it got cut from the final release. It was probably the original idea for the scene where Sarah falls asleep on the table in Mexico but they replaced it with the nuclear playground scene instead. AFAIR they dropped it for pacing reasons.
    Other things are that
    - This film was HUGE when it was released. Linda Hamilton was given serious props for her transformation, and it was the film that basically made Arnie the household name he is today. Cameron obvs went on to make Titanic as well.
    - Guns n Roses
    - There's no T2 without T1. The fact it still feels fresh with the number of callbacks and reversals in the writing is pretty damn impressive. One of the hardest callbacks is 07:24. Hard to watch at the time, and still hard now.
    - Some of the scenes (where Sarah takes a stick to the prison guard, and the Terminator walking through the SWAT team) were a LOT more violent in the theatrical cut. If you watch closely enough you can see the edits.
    I'll leave it there. Love your channel Madison !

If you watch the scene you see she's in the hospital for the first half of the dream talking to Kyle and then you see the beginning of her nightmare that she describes. While it is true that the scenes that got cut were done for pacing they weren't intended to be placed in other parts of the movie. The Kyle Dream takes place while she's tranqued out on Thorazine after being beaten by the orderly that licks her face later.

They mention Arnold being a T-800/CSM-101 in the cards but for some strange reason, they never mention the term “T-800” in the film. But you may be right, the term “T-800” might have been mentioned for the first time(on film) in Terminator 3 or Salvation.

    • @sorrenblitz805
      @sorrenblitz805 Місяць тому

      In the movies the only time we see "T-800" is in the Terminator's HUD briefly.
      Kyle in Terminator 1 says "The 600 series had rubber skin we spotted them easy, but these are new they look human--" so it's correct to assume these would be T-700 or T-800 and as the HUD shows it's a T-800. The T-3 Arnold has been confirmed to be a T-850. The Arnold skin is a CSM101 and it's probable that it prefers to itself as the skin suit since that is what is one display as the infiltration tactic.

      As for how it affected you, I understand completely. I got the same feeling from 2 made-for-TV movies from almost a decade before. "The Day After" (1983, USA) and "Threads" (1984, UK) scared the crap outta me! The first instilled great fear, the second broke what was left of my heart! I had quite a few dreams of seeing the mushroom clouds over NYC and trying in vain to convince my family that we needed to hurry up and get in a car and start driving north. Or more symbolic versions, such as Roman legions invading our town on elephants, conquering our neighborhood one house at a time, each house defended only by it's own inhabitants.
      But when I was younger, I also had similarly fearful dreams of waking up to find that a volcano formed under our home overnight and we were now teetering on the edge of the smoking crater. So maybe there were other issues working their way thru my mind, and the dreams of nukes and lava were just the vehicles to convey the message.

    When the first 'Terminator' movie was being cast, Arnold was originally cast as the soldier 'Kyle Reese'... Lance Henriksen was cast as the 'Terminator', like an ordinary-looking guy who could blend in to find & kill targets. But after reading the script, Arnold asked James Cameron, the director, that he wanted to play the Terminator... So, the Terminator was re-written as this unstoppable killing machine... Lance Henriksen was recast as the police detective... and Michael Biehn was cast as the soldier 'Kyle Reese'.
    For 'Terminator 2', Cameron went back to the original concept - Arnold played the protector... and Robert Patrick was cast as this ordinary-looking guy who was the T-1000 liquid metal Terminator targeting John Connor.
    James Cameron did not return for 'Terminator 3'... Jonathan Mostow did the 3rd 'Terminator' movie... and it was a worthy movie, even if it didn't surpass 'T2'... Arnold returned as the protector... Nick Stahl played John Connor as a young adult... Claire Danes played Kate Brewster, a veterinarian who knew John from school... Kristanna Loken played the advanced 'T-X'

      @x From Cameron's story reality; the other movies don't start from any place of real logic from the end of T2. T3 literally ignores the end of T2 in order to exist.
      The next logical step from T2 would have been to continue the story fifty or sixty years after the end of Skynet, imo.
      If they wanted to stay in the present with the stories, the arm could have given them SOMETHING. It's flimsy, sure, but it leaves room open for some type of reverse engineering, or at least some inspiration.

However, she and the director (James Cameron) were getting impatient and frustrated with Ken because they had to redo that scene many times because Ken would hesitate or completely chicken out which ruined the scene and forced them all to redo it until he eventually got it right.
    In the scene where Sarah (Linda) hits the glasses guy (Ken) with a broken broom handle, she actually hit Ken for real in the mouth even though that broom handle was a movie prop and the blood that he spat out was fake It hurt him for real and his reaction was genuine but he stayed in character in that scene to redeem himself for the many reshoots of the previous scene with Linda.

    He did have a strong baseline though, because when he said to the foster parents "He's a good lookin' boy. Mind if I keep this picture?"" He was not only charming, disarming, and pleasant, but he assimilated CASUAL conversation instead of ROTE conversation, when instead he could have roboticallly said "That IS a good lookinG boy. DO YOU mind if I keep this picture?"
    I heard someone else say : it's amazing that the t-1000 actor does a good job of a acting like a machine TRYING to act like a person, instead of a ACTOR trying to act like a machine.

    This was a wonderful reaction, Madison! The first words in your comments at the end nail it for me. This is a perfect ending to the story, just as "Aliens" was a perfect ending to Ellen Ripley's story. The issue I have with sequels is that Hollywood rarely knows when to stop. They don't respect the natural, organic ending of a good story, or a perfect ending if they're lucky enough to come across one. In the search for continuing to make the almighty buck they just milk their IPs to the point that, story-wise, so many franchises just don't make logical sense anymore, or the events or characters start to lose consistency, or they simply can't live up to what came before. As an artist yourself, you're obviously keenly aware that telling a story is an art form. I've always believed that part of that art form is knowing when to stop. Very few series are able to escape the law of diminishing returns in that regard. There's really only one series I can think of that has been able to completely defy that law. In my opinion. Tom Cruise's "Mission Impossible" series (with perhaps the exception of the 2nd film) has amazingly been able to make each installment better than the last one, and that series is 6 movies in!! There are still 2 more movies yet to come so that may change, but it's a truly remarkable feat. I'm not saying that it's my favorite franchise, but I can think of no other that has done that!

    Two noteworthy things in this edition of "The Terminator": First, Linda Hamilton worked out with Ahnold to get "Khan Singh" buff. Second, there are twins in the "mirror scenes." Since you haven't "officially reacted" to any "Star Trek" TV or movies, some context. "Khan Singh," played by Ricardo Montalban, in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" (1982) became an intimidating, muscular menace and the top villain of this movie franchise.;) 24:00 For a real case of "backwards discovery," see "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). "This terminator is not a very good driver"
    The truck broke a tie rod when it fell - real world broken, not part of the script. If you watch the scene again, you can see the steer tires are pointing in different directions after it lands. It would pretty much be dead in the water after that, so they would have had to fix it before shooting the rest of the chase - but they probably thought it wise to at least portray some vague notion of some unidentified steering problem after a fall like that.
    Just one of the drive axles on that truck has like 330% more load-bearing capacity than the steer axle has, and that truck has two drive axles. So the steer axle is much less durable, and also much more complex, because of all the extra moving parts to make it steer.

    Here they are:
    1. Predator - 1987 (this is by far the best Predator movie if you ask me and the 1st only with Arnold).
    2. Commando - 1985
    In this movie Arnold plays agent that lives with his daughter. Untill 1 day he gets a job from his boss. I can not tell you anymore, you have to watch it to know 😇😇. Btw i joined your channel just by randomised content from this platform. It was the movie Ghost that you showed and i fell in love with your smile and I subscribed 😊.

    Wonderful and heartwarming reaction as always with you Madi! Glad you watched the theatrical cut. The extended version has some extra scenes that were cut out for a reason and they really switch the tone to a more comedic one that you see so often these days and it is not fitting for me. But on a 2nd view you might wanna check it out. What else to say about T2? For me it is still the greatest action movie of all time (only rivaled by Mad Max Fury Road) and the best sequel ever. It scarred me for live when I saw it first, I must have been 12 or 14, somewhere there. But it also opened my eyes and the fear for a nuclear war. That explosion scene with Sarah is insane but pretty realistic. And not only does this movie have great practical effects action but also amazing early CGI for the time. It still looks good today. About the other movies: you said it perfectly right, the story should have endet here. But you can watch the others, they range from mediocre (3 and 4) to really bad (5 and 6). But I would prefer you checking more worthy classics out on your movie fridays. 😊

Much better than a lot of movie's from these days. Today CGI is everything and nobody cares about the rest. Avatar is a negativ example for that.

    Great reaction, watching right now enjoying. Theres actually an extended cut of T2 with some extended scenes(with Kyle and Sarah) and a different ending. But to answer your question as "do all terminators look like arnold" yeah they all look like Arnold. When T1 came our I don't think Cameron saw it with more than 2 going on or even a second but since the terminator did well he had a higher budget to work with and its pretty much been a staple in the franchise that all of the T-800 model aka Arnold's model of terminator all look the same.

    • @nonconsensualopinion
      @nonconsensualopinion 2 роки тому +4

      I disagree. He's a T-800, model 101. I think it's been discussed by the fans that the robot within is the T-800 and "model 101" refers to looking like he does externally. So you could have different T-800 models that look like different humans.

    • @MrBegmar
      @MrBegmar 2 роки тому +2

      There is a scene in T1 showing that terminators can have different appearance. Also Kyle himself says that he didn't knew how he looked, but he saw other terminators of his type in future. So in universe there is probably dozen different looks of this model. Of course because of financial and marketing reasons all T800s in sequels looks like Arnold. It depends if you want to look at this from lore perspective or from filmmaking perspective. Both statements are true.

    • @nonconsensualopinion
      @nonconsensualopinion 2 роки тому +1

      @@MrBegmar Agreed. Skynet was brilliant enough to engineer this super robot and perform time travel. It wasn't going to goof up by making them all look the same. That's another thing I dislike about the third movie with the female terminator (I think that's the third one). At one point she incapacitates the T-800 and medics show up to help him thinking he's a human. They remark that he weighs a ton as they unsuccessfully try to move him. I always hated that because in the first movie Kyle talks about how they have bad breath, they sweat, ... everything. They have to use dogs to sniff them out. You can't have a T-800 infiltrator unit weighting 500 pounds or the "terminator test" at each resistance base would be stepping on a scale or walking across something that would snap under their weight. It totally contradicted the whole point of an infiltrator.

    • @rbrtck

    I am SO glad you watched the theatrical cut as your first time watching this movie. So many reaction channels make the mistake of watching the special edition first. You should watch the special edition at some point, but NOT as your first time, as this cut is vastly superior to it. The scenes they cut were cut for good reason. The only scene I think I would have kept in was a scene that they cut where they cut open Arnold's head to reprogram his chip. In the original script, when John asks if he can learn anything he wasn't programmed with, his answer was that his computer is a learning computer but skynet disabled the learning aspect, he says it's "read only" so that he doesn't stray from the mission. So he walks them through the process to change that and remove that block. They ended up cutting the entire scene and simply had Arnold record the line "the more contact I have with people the more I learn" and Edward Furlong saying "cool" and they played that while their faces are off screen so you just assumed they said it.

    You have to remember that in that seven year gap between movies we didn't have the internet to create and hype or public demand for the studio to see. As far as we were concerned the story was wrapped up and ended in 1984. We never expected a sequel nor was there any talk of one until around 1990 when we found out one was being filmed. We were just happy and surprised a sequel was made.
