HI Joe, watching from northern Alaska. I have been a trapper in Alaska for 50 years. I always carry a couple of Bic lighters in pockets Inside my parka against my body heat.As you have shown matches are only good when they light. They are part of my kit that has kept me alive and breathin for a half century. Best wishes from the Far North, Trapper Dave in North Pole, Alaska
We started one of them stoves, a handful of fire starter and a sunflower heater using the spark plugs on the sled/ snow machine. Open that gap up it will work. We were stupid drunk when we did this. It wasn't a life or death situation doing this. Hair was burnt in the trying of this.

hey great video! brother and inspiring as well. all the years i trapped i always thought of/wanted to do this/ and im finally im pulling the trigger after watching your video...
Hey Joe, Merry Christmas. Another cool video. I thought I’d share something a friend of mine shared with me. He does a lot of winter camping and gave me a tip that really works. When sleeping out in the cold, bring some hot water bottles. Before you go to bed and crawl into your sleeping bag, throw the hot water bottles in about an hour before you get in. Your bag will be toasty warm and you’re less likely to get cold in the night as your bag will trap all that heat. Be well bud!!!
I would be so scared! You are so brave!!! Then I remember… you really aren’t alone… all your fans are with you! The film quality is excellent! I’d just bring a sandwich. Haha! So much to it! 🥰❤️
Hi Joe, Great video, when I first saw the title I thought ok he is gonna put up his ice tent. Nope doing it old school. When you showed us the peaches and said they were in heavy syrup, I thought of Archie Bunker and Edith, with the cling peaches in heavy syrup. lol. Thanks for taking us along. Cheers MT
My tip: Before turning in, boil water and place into a water bladder ( well sealed ! ) and into the foot of the sleeping bag. This will warm the bag and your feet. By morning the water is barely luke warm, put snow into coffee pot and then the luke warm water will melt it enough to quickly absorb the heat as you heat it, faster than waiting for a little snow melt to melt all the snow. . . ☆
A new sub...im a hunter lots of times i hunt from a treestand...i picked up on Amazon these canteens that you can roll up thick plastic a round head that i use to pee in..their a little smaller than a hot water bottle...after peeing if its really cold i have put the warm pee canteen under / inside my hunting clothes... It doesn't take up any room rolled up...easy to clean
Need to make a reflectex liner for inside the box to help separate the 2 temps would hopefully keep you warmer too. I've wanted to do some winter camping on the snowmobile in the Adirondacks. However my job owns me during the winter for a few more years
You are one tough fella. You should have brought the insulated pop up and put your otter sled in that. You'd be styling. Love the videos keep them coming.
HI Joe cold night in a box not my idea of fun but good to know if cot out over night. nice marten hard on his head your all way doing daring deals living on the edge that why we love you love all the fooling around you do.
Great Trip!! Good time for a debate over propane vs white gas in these situations…I’m white gas all the way but I understand the simplicity of propane for short trips, depending on cold conditions.
Just watched u for the first time. Ill be subscribing. Loved your video! Man its a good thing your a grizzly bear. A little guy wouldnt survive out there quite so well. I like to camp but man your on another level. That was awesome!!!
You should me a hard cover for the Brandon box that’s on hinges. You’d then be able to easily sleep in it without worrying about snow or wind hurting the cover. And you could mount stuff to the top of the Brandon box like the tent
I love ALL your videos!! How the hell do you edit and produce all these videos so fast bud?! This one......reminds me of sleeping in the Allagash 15 years ago in January. COLD!
BTW I have read the first six books of "The Adventures of Lew and Charlie". I try to make them last by only reading them when I need a pick-me-up; otherwise, I would have read them all by now.
Well, great video as always. I do have one question. What brand is your wool coat. It looks damn comfortable. And me being a larger fella, you can't always find wool in the larger sizes.
Joe love the content as always my friend! I have a question for ya, looking to buy my father a really nice high quality flannel such as yours can I have the info on what you wear? Obviously it works! Thanks joe
Hey Joe, I’m going to make a suggestion for your safety. I saw you start your sled to see if it would start. Then you shut it right off. I’m not sure about the skidoo ace 4 strokes, but I know Yamaha 4 stroke sleds actually have a red light on the dash that stays lit until it has warmed up enough that it doesn’t foul the spark plugs. So I think if you start your sled let it warm up so you aren’t stranded. I know I carry spare plugs for my 800 Titan 2 stroke, but I’m sure most people don’t carry spares for a 4 stroke.
No on the feet warmers. If sled doesn't start, with the battery pack jumpers I pack, it's time to start walking, axe and survival matches for a fire. etc.
I like to think I can handle the Maine cold, but you are on whole other level! Great episode, can't wait for the fishing adventures to start.@JoeHollandFishing

Do you have a plan if the cooking odors bring a wolf or a bear? You have proven that you can still do this. You don't have to do it again this year. Take care of yourself. I have been so cold I couldn't talk for 3 hours. It takes a lot out of you. You are a strong man. Could you cook a martin or fisher carcass over a fire? Is it edible?

I might be good with the cold at night but I would NEED that fire in the morning!
that coffee is perfect!
This really demonstrates how everything is much more difficult when it's really cold out.
it definitely adds to the challenge
I like how you described the coffee 😂
HAHA love ya bud!
I see you got your new skis on
U need a hot tent for over night trapping. Cool vid
Awesome footage 👍🌲🇺🇸

Bet putting snow up around your sled would make it warmer. Crazy video Lol
I thought about that but figured what, maybe a half a degree at most?

Joe you could rig up a wall and roof set up for doing this on you big sled box. Pretty cool.
Fresh perked camp coffee is the best.

if it didnt restrict the height of the stuff i haul it would be a great idea. My tent floor is much taller than the box
@ oh damn that’s true. Make holsters on the outside of it😂

I just wonder how those Milwaukee heated jackets would work??
So Joe… With all the time you spend in remote forested locations, have you ever heard or seen anything you can’t explain? Like something Squatchy?
no not at all.
Joe how about a episode on how you got started recording and how you do it , equipment and what not
Oh that's kinda simple, mostly go-pros. Trying to keep it simple for my simple mind.
Have you ever tried a candle in terra-cotta pots for heat?
The first video of yours I came across was when you slept in the sled on the ice, this time looks a little colder!
That’s right, this is a bit colder than the one you saw.
Way to tough it out!
Is that a Filson coat? Love the channel keep doing what you do 🌲🌲🌲🦅❄️
LL Beans
@ seems to do the job
My uncle was a trapper in the 40s and 50s in northeren lower Michigan with a trap line of about 60 miles if I remember right.
You are hardcore. When you do something you go all out. You make my hands cold just watching
It was definitely a cold one.
Throw a Nalgene with hot water in your bag right before bed. Works wonders.

Wouldn't the regular stick matches light? Looked like you tried before digging out the others.
they would not
and steakhouse...good luck man 🧨
I just found your vlogs and now subscribed. Great videos and will catch up eventually on them all. What part of the country are you in?
Thanks for the sub! Maine
Well, great video as always. I do have one question. What brand is your wool coat. It looks damn comfortable. And me being a larger fella, you can't always find wool in the larger sizes.
Probably a Johnson Mills.
I know you had what you needed, but the knitter in me wanted to knit you something!!
Merry Christmas

@ well if you’re taking off and going that’s fine. It’s the start and then shutting it off again right away that Yamaha says fouls the plugs.
Curious what your back up plan is if your sled doesn't start? Also, do you keep hand or feet warmers to throw in your sleeping bag for extra heat?
No on the feet warmers. If sled doesn't start, with the battery pack jumpers I pack, it's time to start walking, axe and survival matches for a fire. etc.
I like to think I can handle the Maine cold, but you are on whole other level! Great episode, can't wait for the fishing adventures to start.@JoeHollandFishing
Awesome! I'm working on a fur sleeping bag.
Sounds warm, what kind of fur are you using?
@JoeHollandFishing coons with mink around the ends. I'm at the mouth of the kennebec. If beaver season goes well, I might make a second 🤞🏻
@@JoeHollandFishing coon with mink trim. I'm on the coast, no martin down here. Beaver season goes well, I'll make another one
Frankly I'd rather have a Snowy Owl by Feathered Friends.

Great video
Thanks, Expedition 900 ace
What are some other books you recommend.
Put a splash of apple cider vinegar in your green beans!👍
