  • Since the Minecraft Legends video, Jelo has been getting nonstop comments about Minecraft Dungeons. So 4 years later, he finally decided to play and give his personal review of it. Honestly, if it wasn't locked behind a bunch of paywalls this game would be amazing.

    If this video does well I'll finish the trilogy with Minecraft Story Mode.
    Edit: Before I get more comments on this, when I talk about how there’s a lack of cutscenes I’m specifically referring to animated cutscenes like in Legends, NOT the mini intros that are essentially loading screens for the stage. Thank you to everyone who pointed it out.

      Just wanted to let you know - The part where you say Minecraft Dungeons bosses are boring because you know which one you will face is only true for the normal maps. In the base game, you can do these things called 'Ancient hunts' where you go to the nether, explore and get new resources like Gold, and go through a door which gives you a random boss, called an ancient, out of several dozens. All with unique mechanics, abilities, enchantments and drops.
      PS: The village does change if you do a secret side mission, you unlock a library but I forgot its function cause I haven't played in years

    my favorite thing about dungeons is how minecraftly it feels. if Mojang decided to add half this stuff (excluding the weapons and armor, they are the only real exceptions) I would not only be fine with it, but extremely hyped. me and many other people want the end wilds from mc dungeons, as well as many of the mobs (such as the iceologer and wildfire) in the base game. personally I also think the game could do with a biome similar to the howling peaks as well.

    Hey I have some information. I have loved this game to absolute limits, I have gained 98/104 achievements and have 250+ hours on this game. At one point you were talking about the lack of lore, and fyi they wrote a whole book about the lore called “the rise of the arch illager ” and it goes into the lore in a story way yet also shows lore. Maybe if you want to get the DLC it is pretty fun. Just my opinion tho. Nice video!

    As someone who finished the main campaign recently and started the dlc, I agree with most of your points except the cutscene one, because at the beginning of all of the levels there is a short cutscene that explains why you are doing what you are doing in the level, which in my opinion helps a lot with the world building, I don't know if you just skipped those or what because I'm 95 percent sure that those are just in the base game.

    The bosses actually do give certain items as each level has a loot pool (as you know), it’s just that as difficulty increases, you’re more likely to get good loot. Getting a unique from a boss is probably twice as likely in apocalypse compared to default.

  • @SheikhSqfi
    @SheikhSqfi Місяць тому

    I would also recommend playing through the other difficulties, although it is a bit monotonous, the difficulty increase with enchanted mobs makes the game more fun, and with that difficulty increase, the ability to get better and better weapons makes the game more satisfying. All of your points make sense in my eyes, but the adventure and apocalypse difficulties should still be viewed and played through in my opinion.
    Post-Edit: Something I remembered while playing the game was that the game's enchantment system increases in variety with the higher difficulty settings, for example, in one of my playthroughs of the game, I had enchantments that were all classed as '"powerful" enchantments. This isn't available in the default difficulty, giving you all the more reason to play the game more, allowing for more variety with enchantments making the game more fun.

    @justsomejerseydevilwithint4606 2 місяці тому +89

    Okay so, I found all the buried lore in Minecraft Dungeons, (including the DLCs) and here's the timeline, as far as I can tell;
    The Humans have a civilization based around horses; they use them to transport items, facilitating trade over wide regions, thus allowing society and civilization to thrive via long-distance trade. They realize the importance of these horses, and build statuary of them in town squares, often depicted as rearing.
    A group of Villagers that live in a desert village figure out how to get to The Nether. There, they find Soul Sand, and use it to create Soul Magic and Soul Enchantments, as evidenced by the soul lantern item.
    The humans also use Phantoms and parts thereof to make armor that only they have, as phantoms only spawn around humans.
    Humans in northern lands make great castles, and one king even ventures to The End, slaying The Ender Dragon, possibly multiple.
    Then, the desert villagers develop Necromancy; summoning undead servants wit soul magic, and some becoming undead Necromancers themselves.
    From the deserts, these Villagers begin to create an Empire under The Nameless King. They go to war with the piglins of The Nether, creating Nether Fortresses and manning them with Wither Skeletons, some even using the explosive "desert snake" bows, but those raised from Piglins sharing their distinct waddle, and wielding swords.
    Eventually, this empire conquers even the Human Civilization, some of which kneel under their rule, but many of the humans venture into The End in hopes to escape. This saves them, but they are trapped, unable to return to a home that was taken from them, and they abandon the overworld. These humans (and a few villagers that went with them) scatter out into the end, making End Cities, harnessing Shulkers for power, but eventually, the Void Liquid slowly corrupts them, and they become Endermen.
    Meanwhile, in the Overworld, The Nameless King's Empire begins to have a food issue: their desert homes are no longer viable to feed their now-prosperous empire. Perhaps inspired by the practice of fishing, they look to the Sea. They had a mighty, proud empire, they conquered the players, they conquered even Hell Itself; surely, with their magic and undead armies, they could conquer the seas.
    And so, with powerful Hearts of the Sea, they build mighty underwater temples, using sponges prolificly, and begin to revere the Eternal Netherrack Flames that enable them to dry the sponges even deep beneath the surface of the waves.
    Somehow, though, something goes wrong. Perhaps their Guardians turn on them, perhaps their human slaves revolt, but all but the undead necromancers are slain, lost to the waves, almost all of their Hearts of the Sea seemingly stolen.
    What few survive are pale of skin, and, tainted by dark magic, can intermingle with monsters. They become the Illagers, a nuisance on Villages, but no major threat.
    Then, born among them, is The Arch-illager, who is shunned for his mutated form. He goes to the villagers, but they're justifiably racist against illagers, and this spawns in him a Spite that fuels his quest for revenge. A quest that takes him to a mysterious abandoned temple, where The Orb of Dominance, an artifact possibly made by the Endermen, rests. It grants him the power to control minds, but corrupts his spite at the villagers into an unwavering desire for conquest. He uses strange golems found in the same temple to design Redstone Golems, unites the Illager Tribes, and marches on all Villager-Kind.
    The Piglins, after discovering Netherite, and rediscovering the semi-automatic crossbows they had used against the necromancers all those centuries ago, created a prototype Fully Automatic Crossbow, which was stolen by the Arch-illager.
    The Arch-illager discovers the old Stronghold of the old Human Empire, and sends expeditions there out of curiosity, wherein his wizards make End Magic.
    Humans, who had escaped the starving Nameless Kingdom, made a mutually beneficial relationship with the villagers, but when The Arch-Illager sent his armies and Golems, none could defend, none but four legendary heroes. They stop the Redstone forges, free the captured villagers, and retake the ancient hold of Highblock Castle, and on the Obsidian Pinnacle, defeat the Arch Illager, free him from the corruption of The Orb Of Dominance, now also known as The Heart Of Ender, and destroy it. But its shards scatter across the world and begin causing calamities, so the Legendary Heroes hunt them down.
    The Piglins, now rediscovered by human adventurers picking through the remains of the Illager Mansions, defend their home against these invaders, but nothing comes of these scuffles save some looting.
    Endermen, perhaps guided by the sentient Endersent, who seem to be corrupted villagers, retake the broken core of the Heart Of Ender, but when it is returned to The End, something goes wrong, perhaps it corrupts an endermite, because it turns into a horrific endermite-controlling monstrosity which would later be called The Broken Heart Of Ender.
    The Legendary Heroes, prompted by the powerful and destructive endersent, find the Stronghold, venture through The End, and slay The Broken Heart Of Ender, returning home through The Fountain

    I want to point something out that completely justifies ALL the DLCs to be compared to Legends. Legends costs 39.99 USD (base game), and Dungeons Ultimate edition, which is every DLC, is 39.99. They sell a half ass game for the same for the ultimate edition, which I have played through the whole thing, which is like triple the base game in content, and is amazing to play and expands the story a ton. each mission is about 40 minutes, which is an amazing content expansion, all for the same price as legends. One thing you didn't look at was weekly and daily trials, which might only be available in apocolyps mode and the tower, which is a 30 floor tower with a boss fight every 10. the difference from normal levels is that the mobs get 1-2 levels higher every floor and the only way to get items is at the end of every floor, where you can choose from a mix of 5 weapons, armors, bows, and enchant points. Also your character and the weapons they have are completely different from you normal character. doesn't completely change the game but still a fun adition. also its free

    I noticed you mentioned that the game was procedurally generated, i wanted to point out that it actually isn't.
    instead each stage has i suppose "variants" where one stage may have anywhere from 3-5 ish different versions of it.
    i don't blame you for thinking this though as if you have only played under 10 hours then you most likely haven't repeated the stages enough to notice the patterns. its really only something you pick up on after dozens of hours grinding power lol.

    • @lordforce5546
      @lordforce5546 3 місяці тому +3

      It is procedural. Missions are made of multiple segments that come in a specific order. There are objective segments that are always the same, and there are multiple segments that usually appear between the objectives. There can be about 3-5 different possible pieces for each segment. And there are a lot of segments in a mission.
      Short missions have only a few different layouts because they simply have a lot less segments to change. But longer maps have tens of thousands of different final layouts.

    my main issue with this game is that it uses power levels, i really dont like them in general
    but its awful here, some artifacts wont have a notable stat increase, yet itll be 7 power levels higher, an example is the ghost cloak, i had one at 113 power, then found another at 120 power, yet they had THE EXACT SAME STATS(both had +16% movement speed, 6 second cooldown), and theres countless more examples
    but theres also the issue with enchantments, a weapon thats objectively better than another, but dosent have good enchantments to spec into(or just dosent have a single enchant thats the base of ur playstyle), isint better than what u have, and its stupid that they have an objective marker saying what is and isint better, when they have subjectivity based mechanics that undermine the concept of a power level
    its just bad game design
    the game is still really fun, but the leveling system is a nightmare

    I used to play this game so much so in the pandemic that now I’m level 356 I came back to the game seeing that they added so much new stuff I was mine blown my best gear goes over millions and such and I really wish this game got more attention as it really is a blast especially when you get a build that you really like I usually go with the fighter bindings max level because they are the fastest weapons in the entire game and the Cursed Axe all enchantments on those weapons are critical hit, whirlwind, and radiance I think it’s called where it heals you every-time you hit someone the items I use is the mushroom that make my already fast weapons so fast that I heal almost instantly from the strongest hoard of enemies in the entire game. The bow is use Auto Crossbow which is essentially what it says it is the actual fastest piece of gear in the entire game and it does explosions and goes even faster if you hold it down. My armor changes to The Spooky Gourdian which was a Halloween Exclusive armor and the Titan’s Shroud which makes my health barley go down as the armor resists trillions. I usually used a gong which weakened enemies by a ton so I can get 10 million damage on people and I use this Satchel of Elements which can either freeze enemies, put them to fire, or shoot a lighting bolt that instant kills enemies. I did play this game because I was abscessed with it and I really wish other people played it as much as I did because it really becomes one of the best dungeon crawlers I have ever played besides Diablo.

    All of the dlcs added up is a lot but for someone who played the game since the beginning and bought each on release (1 dlc about every 3 months) it actually adds a lot of free stuff for players with each update (eg raid captains) which kept the game fresh, it only really lost popularity when the tower released as it took so long and it was so little, also if you played default to the end you unlock adventure mode and apocalypse for adventure, which actually adds some extra items as well as changes some other things, there is also apocalypse+ which adds a good challenge as well as gives a lot of replay ability

    to add onto 2:33 when replaying through a level illager captains appear, picking up their banners affects the run in a random way such as 50% of mobs have thorns or 25% of melee mobs are replaced with zombies, or night mode (mobs that appear at night in minecraft will spawn around you meaning there are always things to fight) and then we have threat banners that increase the threat

    I'd say Minecraft Dungeons had a pretty good run especially compared to other Minecraft spinoffs but the game did deserve a better sendoff.
    Minecraft Dungeons did get a lot of content updates during its lifespan (both paid updates and free updates).
    For instance, every update would add new free enchantments which would enhance builds such as Multi Roll and Pain Cycle.
    There were also new things added such as Raid Captains, Daily Trials, Ancient Hunts, and The Tower.
    Speaking of which, you didn't cover the Tower which contains a lot of the content present in the DLCS. That means you can play with the all the DLC content without paying for any of the DLCs which is awesome. Then again, there was many problems with it such as the repetitive layouts and item distribution and the fact you couldn't play the Tower in multiplayer for a while (which goes against that whole Multiplayer First issue you had). As a result of how the Tower was handled, the game went out with a whimper rather than going off with a bang.
    Personally, I believe Minecraft Dungeons is a great game but if you want to get the best experience you can out of this game, you gotta pay for the DLCs.

    Literally if they just had the budget of Minecraft legends added to them it would have been such a phenomenal game. It already looks very nice, it just needed more of an actual narrative, or like characters or something. The game feels so empty as is, and for god sakes I find myself constantly wishing to find secret areas, and constantly disappointed that I haven’t found any. Perhaps the lack of characters is a good thing, because they probably would have just done that whole “friendly character that treats you like a child and tells silly, tame jokes” trope. You know like in Lego games when they have to write original dialogue for side content. It has the makings for greatness

    I played this game with a friend before the dlc came out. Had alot of fun, there is a respectable amount of end game content with some items only being available at higher difficulties and a few levels having to be found. There was also special hidden areas in pretty much every level that you weren't likely to find on your first run through since they were either well hidden or random chance to even be present.

    Not gonna lie I wish (if I had the skills I would) revamp Minecraft Dungeons to have a lot of things (or draw more inspiration from) other dungeon crawler games to fully smash out the games potential because there is ALOT (in my opinion) they could still do to make the game even more enjoyable and maybe re-playable too. From basic quality of life changes to whole new mechanics I think quite a chunk could be done. Maybe as time goes on we may see some kind of side project to bring back the game via mods. Unless that's already happening and I am just not aware of it.
