oh wow....you are one busy lady!! Love your space but as you were panning around I kept having ideas pop into my head on how you could maybe make some improvements. I just went thru a "rehab' in my sewing room and have much more space. I got rid of "non-sewing " items (but I think I have more room in other parts of my house than you may have to move them to. The biggest "elephant" in the room I noticed was the entertainment center. I kept thinking shelving across that wall would be a lot more useable. I also got rid of my thread racks....uses too much wall-estate. I bought sturdy plastic (see thru) containers at odd lots. They sit nicely on the shelf when not in use. They attache to one another and can be carried around together or separately. I put like colors in different containers and take them off the shelf and sit the containers close to me when I sew or can easily take them on the go. I also use them for other items and have different sizes. Don't miss the thread racks at all. The entertainment system probably would fit on the shelving also. You could probably get rid of all those little carts sitting round on the floor and put all that stuff in these containers up on the shelves also. I hope you don't mind my suggestions...I know you weren't asking for any. Seems like getting things in order is a never ending battle in our sewing rooms. Amazed at all your fabric! Take care.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Don't you question what art is actually created in those perfectly organized, beautifully furnished craft rooms? More often than not, they're used for non-messy crafts like papercrafts, and yes, they have more space (although I often think they have more dollars than sense). Why compare yourself to others when your space is functional and REAL? I think it's lovely how your sewing room shows so much personality. It's far cooler than those sterile environments. I love it!

Chantel, you are just starting out. The longer you quilt, the more you will naturally acquire. That's why I'm trying to reorganize certain areas, getting rid of things that don't work for me anymore.

Daaaaaaang! Ms. "Teaquilts", ma'am, you are waaaaaay more organized than me! My "works-in-progress" are all in shopping bags. I got as far as setting up a wire basket organizer for storing works-in-progress and quilt tops basted to batting and backing and waiting to be machine-quilted. I am liking your thread racks, though. You need not apologize for your disorganization. Ever. Yours is a working studio, not a museum or magazine ad room. Never apologize for active creativity. I know of too many people addicted to drugs and alcohol and tv watching who criticize the creative people and yet never lift a finger to create anything themselves --- because they can't. Creative people are smart, funny, sweet, sassy, and wonderful. Don't be ashamed of the wealth of materials you have to create. Many years ago my high school choir group paid a sewing lady to custom sew and fit our matching velvet dresses and vests for special performances. I remember going to her house in Los Angeles and being astonished at how chock full it was of material, sewing notions, machines, and her work barely fit onto her dining table. Now that I am into quilting, my house is exactly the same. My sewing group ladies are.....dying out.......and they have been "gifting" me with about 20 boxes of their fabric ......each. My spare room and laundry room are stuffed to the gills and I have six sewing machines behind my sofa in my living room and still the wire "organizer" attempt! Let the type-A anal retentive perfectionists be perfect. It turns out they do not have the imagination or stamina to handle "messy". The strongest people I know are the ones who are not afraid of "messy", but walk right in, start sorting, and their imaginations race a mile a minute dreaming up ideas and creative ways and uses for all that stuff. Perfect people throw it all away in the garbage so they don't have to think about it. Creative people not only think about it, they try to use up every scrap they can creatively and make it work. Perfect people pay creative people to make their homes beautiful. Creative people live in a mess but see beauty in the one pearl sitting among the pins in the cup in the box of odds and ends in the pile of boxes on one end of that rooms filled with other boxes. Be a beautiful creative person and be proud to have made so many beautiful things.

I share my 9 ft x 11 ft. space with husband. We each work in opposite corners. He makes model wood boats, I make quilts. I have sawdust in my quilts, he has thread in his boats, If we both roll our chairs back at the same time, we bump into each other. We got over it! 8-))) We both realize if our spaces were bigger, we'd have more stuff and fill the spaces up. Thanks for the tour.

I live in NYC. Most of the guild members I know don't have room for a needle and thread - much less fabric. A small studio is wishful thinking. Having the space to own a long arm sewing machine is "to dream the impossible dream". I for one am so glad you took the time to welcome us into the "Tea World of Quilting".

At least you have got a space...and you know where things are! And you are organized. I loved seeing a 'real' space....I love the yellow and blue you chose. I have stuff in my dining room, and stuff in the basement and have to run between the two. But, even with that, I count myself lucky to have it, and not have to put it up every time I sew. It is just hubby and I most of the time, and he doesn't mind.
Missy, we could be craft room neighbors! I struggled with having the 'perfect' craft/sewing room. Not anymore; crafting is messy, disorganized, chaotic and it is what it is. As long as one is creating and enjoying themselves, that's what matters. Thank you for showing the 'real deal'!
It's all completely sensible and you can find your stuff. My space is a little bigger, but I can tell you that the more space you have the more space you will fill up. I used to get by with a tiny sewing table in the corner of our bedroom, and then the oldest kid left and I got my sewing room in 1992! My organizing style is a lot like yours, and we sure do think alike when it comes to setting up functional work space. I even have my hoops on command hooks on the side of an armoire, just the way you do and batting in a closet that can't be opened without moving things. And plastic drawers and old file cabinets and bags and boxes and bins in high places full of things that are needed less often. Never apologize. You are creative and productive, and all a person has to do is look at the beautiful quilts you make to know that what you're doing with your available space works for you. Thanks for sharing!

I understand your comment and I do create just fine. Some people have the gift of spacial organization. I don't. I'd love for someone to help put things in order according to the space layout of my room. I think I did a good job but it can be improved.
I have great admiration for you! You work in a space that is perhaps 1/3 of mine and accomplish a great deal.l People who don't do a dang thing have neat homes, always "picked up" , people who DO something usually have the evidence of their creativity showing about the house!!
I too have a small sewing room. Two walls are almost just windows. I love all the sunshine, but at the same time no space there for sewing stuff. I have boxes of fabric under the bed. As long as you pretty much know where your stuff is, it's organized. Thanks for showing your room. Enjoyed the tour.

@@teaquilts no , he has to fix where the ceiling fell. Big hole a whole sheet of sheet rock fell leaving sheetrock and blown in insulation every where. I feel sick any time i have to go in there. I can move back in there when he gets it fixed

I didn't know that spray existed either until I received it as a gift. I haven't used it yet...need to see how it works and how well it comes out of the cloth. I'm assuming this one will need water and probably lots of it! Happy quilting in Houston. I went to the show one year. I need to plan another visit, but not this year...too much going on.
Thank you for the tour of your sewing room. In Scotland we have small houses and therefore small rooms. I have just started to quilt but am easily put off by lack of space. I've never been able to save as my husband left and I raised my children with no support. However, I've been thrifty and now got enough to put in fitted wardrobes with storage space and (I'm so excited as I type) getting a raised single bed so that drawers are built in PLUS a lid that comes down from the wall to cover the bed and so make a work bench. The room is tiny but will take some clothes etc and all the sewing equipment and become a guest room too. Thanks again 🏴😊

I enjoyed your tour. Everyone's sewing studio fits their wants and needs. You have inspired me to go thru mine and make it "Me" to fit my needs. My daughter made a really cute craft room in her basement with nice white cabinets and a counter top. Now they are finishing off their basement completely, and are pulling those cabinets out! They are like new, so I am buying them off of her. So I am going to get to remodel my sewing area a bit! I am quite excited. I moved my entire sewing suite down into our finished basement because all my kids are grown and gone, and no one was really using it. My husband has finished it off so nicely, and it has big windows, so it does not even feel like a basement. I am able now to spread out a bit. But i had a tiny sewing room for a long time, and I used the walls, as you do, for vertical storage. That is a smart way to do it! Things are always changing, and we use what we have and make it works. I enjoy your videos and tutorials, and I think your work is so beautiful!

Just found your video as I am currently decorating my ‘new’ sewing room. We are having a move round at home and I am getting a decent sized sewing room instead of a corner of the living room. I am watching all the sewing room tours I can find but as I am in the uk and all our rooms are so much smaller in our houses so watching the videos with the huge crafting/sewing studios in America is just fantasy and totally unobtainable. Your room is so real and used and loved it was a joy to watch. Many rooms tours I have seem are just show rooms and look like nothing creative ever actually happens in there! Huggles Louise xx

I once had an organized sewing room. But then family lost income, homes, etc. and I gave it up to put a roof over their heads until they could do it again on their own. I never did get things put back the way they were, but its ok, cause I still find surprises I forgot about and my family members are all back on their feet now.

Jennifer Manian : oh my😱. I would be horrified also. I see you posted that over two months ago so I hope you are feeling much better and you're able to get your room back to some assemblance of order for yourself. I know I was in the hospital in August. Had to have a friend come over and move my sewing machines around so I could have a chair to prop my leg up on so I could sew. I broke my foot in seven places.
I live in a town house in Virginia. I turned my smallest bedroom into a quilting room. This room is the size of a closet...I have 3 sewing machines set up along w/ 2 cutting tables... (Bought a JUKI 6 months ago that I have yet to take out of the box because I have no place to put it!) I can work on one side of the room...and swivel/turn my chair around to work on the other side...Plastic bins are under both tables...I must also add that not only am I tripping over my stuff...I am also tripping over 2 cats who also managed to squeeze into this very small room....LMBO...So, let me tell you, I am feeling your situation...But, it's all good!

Organization in our studios is always in flux b/c our creativity takes us in many different directions. Thanks for sharing. yes, and always planning to work on something while a machine is working by itself, or just something different on a coffee break. My friends use Nancy Zieman's attitude, ten, twenty, thirty minutes to sew. Take Care.

I thank you for the tour I have a small room that houses sewing, crafts etc. and it is not organized, but I know where supplies are when I need them as you do. You have an embroidery machine and your needed supplies. WOW! Keep doing what you do. you are awesome. GOD bless you in the talents he has given you.
My kind of crafter! For me, I find it kind of hard to be creative and politically correct, if you know what I mean. I also have a small home. My friend of 50 years, Ann, passed away last year, she used to say, "A woman's got to do, what a woman's got to do"! Your space is working for you! You share and make wonderful things. I found that I feel happy, and creative, when I am surrounded by people and things that I love. I thank God for all the blessings, gifts, abilities, and things that he has given me. I love making others happy, with my crafting etc. thanks for sharing your creative space!

We have to make do with what we have and you sure did! I just moved into my son's old 10x10 room when he was able to upgrade after his older brother moved out. I thought I would enjoy setting up my space and I do... sort of. It is a bit overwhelming. The big stuff is easy but as crafters we tend to have lots of little supplies too. It's those little bits that have me stumped sometimes. I'm the type that likes to repurpose and recycle so it may take me some time but that's okay with me.

I love your room. I'm going to remember the term "Organized Chaos" - that's right you know where everything is at and can get to it when you need it - that's all that matters. The heck with everybody with their extremely clean sewing and craft rooms. They are nice (don't get me wrong) but you are making do with what you have. Same as me -- you're keeping it real and I appreciate it. You are doing what you love. Thanks for sharing you've definitely made me feel better when everyone always teases me about my room. I used to think that there was something wrong with me but now I know that I'm in good company now. :)
I love organized chaos! My mother and I both use that method in our craft/sewing rooms. We know where everything is, at least the general area of it at least lol
What a bright and inviting workspace. You organize like I do (in every square inch) I liberated some space by using rolling carts; 1 for embroidery and another one for current knitting and crochet. When I’m sewing I move the carts out of the room so I have a bit more space. The rest of the time the carts reside in the sewing room.
I am going to sew similar stabilizer storage now. My rolls are stored on the floor at the moment. I love your sign and plan to use the quote on a canvas for my sewing room! thank you for sharing.

My daughter-in-law actually came in and arranged my sewing/craft room which will be used for “triple” duty during the holiday season. Last holiday season both of my boys and their girlfriends had moved out and we repainted both of their rooms... one was supposed to be my film studio and hangout/dining room and the other for crafting and sewing... but one couple had to return to the nest... anyway... Storage is weird due to the design of the spaces... both rooms have dormer windows and follow the roof line... deep unusable wall space. I keep my table in organized chaos but for the most part it’s organized... I have to ask my d-I-l where things are... So never apologize for your space as it’s your organized mind at work.
Label with index cards the containers, attach with blue painters tape, on sides & top. My husband organized, like your d I l, my supplies. God bless their good intentions, lol. 💕 Donating crafting items I no longer have interest in creates more space for the rest. My donations go into a large, dented carmel popcorn Christmas tin. Try Office Depot office chair. Blessings to you. 💚
Enjoyed your tour. My room is 8' x 9' so I know what it's like to work in a small space but I'm getting ready to reorganize it. Would love to have a long arm but I do not have a garage . Love that you gave your sisters entertainment system new life. Looks like there's room for a shelf in the top section since your TV is not that large. I love Tutto bags too ! I have a similar type of sewing room, but a bit bigger. It is my happy place and I spend hours inside my , lets really say, craft room. Unfortunately it's a bit far from the kitchen, so my husband is getting used to burned food. I love how you organize yours.
Tea one Christmas we made table mats with our cards.Solid mactac on bottom, sticky side up, cut parts of card we wanted to showcase then put clear mactac sticky side down.The cards are put down leaving about 1 inch free so that the mactacs could stick together.Trim to shape.Hope this makes sense we did a scalloped edge so we left 2 inches border to accommodate that

You need not apologize for your disorganization. Ever. Yours is a working studio, not a museum or magazine ad room.
Never apologize for active creativity. I know of too many people addicted to drugs and alcohol and tv watching who criticize the creative people and yet never lift a finger to create anything themselves --- because they can't.
Creative people are smart, funny, sweet, sassy, and wonderful. Don't be ashamed of the wealth of materials you have to create.
Many years ago my high school choir group paid a sewing lady to custom sew and fit our matching velvet dresses and vests for special performances. I remember going to her house in Los Angeles and being astonished at how chock full it was of material, sewing notions, machines, and her work barely fit onto her dining table.
Now that I am into quilting, my house is exactly the same. My sewing group ladies are.....dying out.......and they have been "gifting" me with about 20 boxes of their fabric ......each. My spare room and laundry room are stuffed to the gills and I have six sewing machines behind my sofa in my living room and still the wire "organizer" attempt!
Let the type-A anal retentive perfectionists be perfect. It turns out they do not have the imagination or stamina to handle "messy".
The strongest people I know are the ones who are not afraid of "messy", but walk right in, start sorting, and their imaginations race a mile a minute dreaming up ideas and creative ways and uses for all that stuff. Perfect people throw it all away in the garbage so they don't have to think about it. Creative people not only think about it, they try to use up every scrap they can creatively and make it work. Perfect people pay creative people to make their homes beautiful. Creative people live in a mess but see beauty in the one pearl sitting among the pins in the cup in the box of odds and ends in the pile of boxes on one end of that rooms filled with other boxes.
Be a beautiful creative person and be proud to have made so many beautiful things.

I share my 9 ft x 11 ft. space with husband. We each work in opposite corners. He makes model wood boats, I make quilts. I have sawdust in my quilts, he has thread in his boats, If we both roll our chairs back at the same time, we bump into each other. We got over it! 8-))) We both realize if our spaces were bigger, we'd have more stuff and fill the spaces up. Thanks for the tour.

I live in NYC. Most of the guild members I know don't have room for a needle and thread - much less fabric. A small studio is wishful thinking. Having the space to own a long arm sewing machine is "to dream the impossible dream". I for one am so glad you took the time to welcome us into the "Tea World of Quilting".

At least you have got a space...and you know where things are! And you are organized. I loved seeing a 'real' space....I love the yellow and blue you chose. I have stuff in my dining room, and stuff in the basement and have to run between the two. But, even with that, I count myself lucky to have it, and not have to put it up every time I sew. It is just hubby and I most of the time, and he doesn't mind.

It's all completely sensible and you can find your stuff. My space is a little bigger, but I can tell you that the more space you have the more space you will fill up. I used to get by with a tiny sewing table in the corner of our bedroom, and then the oldest kid left and I got my sewing room in 1992! My organizing style is a lot like yours, and we sure do think alike when it comes to setting up functional work space. I even have my hoops on command hooks on the side of an armoire, just the way you do and batting in a closet that can't be opened without moving things. And plastic drawers and old file cabinets and bags and boxes and bins in high places full of things that are needed less often. Never apologize. You are creative and productive, and all a person has to do is look at the beautiful quilts you make to know that what you're doing with your available space works for you. Thanks for sharing!

I understand your comment and I do create just fine. Some people have the gift of spacial organization. I don't. I'd love for someone to help put things in order according to the space layout of my room. I think I did a good job but it can be improved.
I have great admiration for you! You work in a space that is perhaps 1/3 of mine and accomplish a great deal.l People who don't do a dang thing have neat homes, always "picked up" , people who DO something usually have the evidence of their creativity showing about the house!!

I see all these large sewing/crafting areas on UA-cam. It's intimidating to show what the "average" sewing area looks like.
I too have a small sewing room. Two walls are almost just windows. I love all the sunshine, but at the same time no space there for sewing stuff. I have boxes of fabric under the bed. I didn't know that spray existed either until I received it as a gift. I haven't used it yet...need to see how it works and how well it comes out of the cloth. I'm assuming this one will need water and probably lots of it! Happy quilting in Houston. I went to the show one year. I need to plan another visit, but not this year...too much going on.
Thank you for the tour of your sewing room. In Scotland we have small houses and therefore small rooms. I have just started to quilt but am easily put off by lack of space. I've never been able to save as my husband left and I raised my children with no support. However, I've been thrifty and now got enough to put in fitted wardrobes with storage space and (I'm so excited as I type) getting a raised single bed so that drawers are built in PLUS a lid that comes down from the wall to cover the bed and so make a work bench. The room is tiny but will take some clothes etc and all the sewing equipment and become a guest room too. Thanks again 🏴😊

I enjoyed your tour. Everyone's sewing studio fits their wants and needs. You have inspired me to go thru mine and make it "Me" to fit my needs. My daughter made a really cute craft room in her basement with nice white cabinets and a counter top. Now they are finishing off their basement completely, and are pulling those cabinets out! They are like new, so I am buying them off of her. So I am going to get to remodel my sewing area a bit! I am quite excited. I moved my entire sewing suite down into our finished basement because all my kids are grown and gone, and no one was really using it. My husband has finished it off so nicely, and it has big windows, so it does not even feel like a basement. I am able now to spread out a bit. But i had a tiny sewing room for a long time, and I used the walls, as you do, for vertical storage. That is a smart way to do it! Things are always changing, and we use what we have and make it works. I enjoy your videos and tutorials, and I think your work is so beautiful!

Just found your video as I am currently decorating my ‘new’ sewing room. We are having a move round at home and I am getting a decent sized sewing room instead of a corner of the living room. I am watching all the sewing room tours I can find but as I am in the uk and all our rooms are so much smaller in our houses so watching the videos with the huge crafting/sewing studios in America is just fantasy and totally unobtainable. Your room is so real and used and loved it was a joy to watch. Many rooms tours I have seem are just show rooms and look like nothing creative ever actually happens in there! Huggles Louise xx

I once had an organized sewing room. But then family lost income, homes, etc. and I gave it up to put a roof over their heads until they could do it again on their own. I never did get things put back the way they were, but its ok, cause I still find surprises I forgot about and my family members are all back on their feet now.

I see you posted that over two months ago so I hope you are feeling much better and you're able to get your room back to some assemblance of order for yourself. I know I was in the hospital in August. Had to have a friend come over and move my sewing machines around so I could have a chair to prop my leg up on so I could sew. I broke my foot in seven places.

I live in a town house in Virginia. I turned my smallest bedroom into a quilting room. This room is the size of a closet...I have 3 sewing machines set up along w/ 2 cutting tables... (Bought a JUKI 6 months ago that I have yet to take out of the box because I have no place to put it!) I can work on one side of the room...and swivel/turn my chair around to work on the other side...Plastic bins are under both tables...I must also add that not only am I tripping over my stuff...I am also tripping over 2 cats who also managed to squeeze into this very small room....LMBO...So, let me tell you, I am feeling your situation...But, it's all good!

Wonderful space! Studios are always a work in progress changing as we need them to accommodate additions and deletions from creativity.
We have to make do with what we have and you sure did! I just moved into my son's old 10x10 room when he was able to upgrade after his older brother moved out. I thought I would enjoy setting up my space and I do... sort of. It is a bit overwhelming. The big stuff is easy but as crafters we tend to have lots of little supplies too. It's those little bits that have me stumped sometimes. I'm the type that likes to repurpose and recycle so it may take me some time but that's okay with me.

I love your room. I'm going to remember the term "Organized Chaos" - that's right you know where everything is at and can get to it when you need it - that's all that matters. The heck with everybody with their extremely clean sewing and craft rooms. They are nice (don't get me wrong) but you are making do with what you have. Same as me -- you're keeping it real and I appreciate it. You are doing what you love. Thanks for sharing you've definitely made me feel better when everyone always teases me about my room. I used to think that there was something wrong with me but now I know that I'm in good company now. :)

What a bright and inviting workspace. You organize like I do (in every square inch) I liberated some space by using rolling carts; 1 for embroidery and another one for current knitting and crochet. When I’m sewing I move the carts out of the room so I have a bit more space. The rest of the time the carts reside in the sewing room.

My daughter-in-law actually came in and arranged my sewing/craft room which will be used for “triple” duty during the holiday season. Last holiday season both of my boys and their girlfriends had moved out and we repainted both of their rooms... one was supposed to be my film studio and hangout/dining room and the other for crafting and sewing... but one couple had to return to the nest... anyway...
Storage is weird due to the design of the spaces... both rooms have dormer windows and follow the roof line... deep unusable wall space.
I keep my table in organized chaos but for the most part it’s organized... I have to ask my d-I-l where things are...
So never apologize for your space as it’s your organized mind at work.
Label with index cards the containers, attach with blue painters tape, on sides & top. My husband organized, like your d I l, my supplies. God bless their good intentions, lol. 💕 Donating crafting items I no longer have interest in creates more space for the rest. My donations go into a large, dented carmel popcorn Christmas tin. Try Office Depot office chair. Blessings to you. 💚

Love that you gave your sisters entertainment system new life. Looks like there's room for a shelf in the top section since your TV is not that large. I love Tutto bags too ! I have changed the entertainment center for an Ikea bookcase to gain more control of the storage. The entertainment center was just bad for storage in the bottom as well and the way it was made, we couldn't change it.

I have a similar type of sewing room, but a bit bigger. It is my happy place and I spend hours inside my , lets really say, craft room. Unfortunately it's a bit far from the kitchen, so my husband is getting used to burned food. I love how you organize yours.

one Christmas we made table mats with our cards.Solid mactac on bottom, sticky side up, cut parts of card we wanted to showcase then put clear mactac sticky side down.The cards are put down leaving about 1 inch free so that the mactacs could stick together.Trim to shape.Hope this makes sense we did a scalloped edge so we left 2 inches border to accommodate that

Sheila, I'm LOL about the video games. I actually play a stand up version I now have with Galaga and Pac Man! Every now and then but not often enough@
