It's only hand assembly right now. They have equipment sitting in the parking lot that will be used for semi-automation after the building is expanded.
Hope we hear Sandy do a recap of his full view. It seems he isn't offering much criticism which is odd for him. He almost always criticizes every product in some fashion (rightly so, nothing is perfect). I get it though, hes walking through their factory and he might save his comments for later as not many companies would let a manufacturing critic walk around their factory this early. That being said, these are hand built trucks in a warehouse, using Bosch technology, and I don't see much proprietary tech that would prevent any of the large semi manufacturers from doing the very same thing but at scale and in a much quicker time period. My guess is they won't because of the chicken before the egg problem of no hydrogen refueling and competing battery tech but who knows.
The big truck manufacturers are similar to the way the big automakers have been. Working on electric trucks but in no hurry. That is the one advantage Nikola has - no employees with a vested interest in diesel trucks and no shareholders who want more profitable diesel trucks sold for now.
@@EVSemiFleet New factories usually are more than a warehouse.. thats all this was. Guys in a warehouse taking 3rd party parts and bolting/wiring them together. @@Josh.1234 is that wrong? This will give them the ability to scale without massive overhead for R&D and will give the ability to select some of the best innovations in the Class-8 EV industry.
You get the feeling that Sandy was not impressed, and was just tolerating the tour? I got a feeling that he wanted to rip a new one, but his professional civility kept him at bay. I also suspect that it was a Nikola cameraman, not wanting to show too much of the warehouse, er, "factory". Yeah, factory.
You are right, what Tech was there to impress Sandy? Imported parts been hand assembled at a snail's pace in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere. It started as a scam and still is a scam. No customer is lining up, because it needs a hydrogen gas network that no one is building. Milton Madness continues. Nothing made by Nicola, just assembly led by ex ICE OEM managers. Good luck investors.
The fact Sandy was offering suggestions on the spot means this rig is going to be a nightmare for assemblers. I'm surprised Sandy held his cool considering the sorry state of things.
At 16:44 Sandy asks an important question: "Do you build your own fuel cells?" The response wasn't clear to me but it sounded evasive and was not a simple "yes", it was something like "so...one of the things we do here is build prototypes and send it to Linden and Christian". Does anyone know what that means?
It's telling that this video is titled *Assembly* Tour and not *Factory* Tour. They don't manufacture anything, they just piece together things they ordered from other companies.

The front of the building shown @ :20 is not the new Coolidge building that looks quite different in the front, then they show inside a building, this is confusing. They are inside what building? The Phoenix building? The new Coolidge building?
The few seconds at 0:20 is their Phoenix headquarters. The rest is at the Coolidge plant.
