Thanks for featuring a couple of my games! (Zoo Keeper, RobotWar:2684 and Qyx) FYI you *can* play RobotWar:2684 with 2 sticks - just plug a joystick in the 2nd port and you're good to go! Of course you'll need a coupler of some sort to hold them together (I personally just bungie cord them to a wooden plank ;) ). Also, for Qyx you can do a 'slow draw' by holding down button C using a Sega Genesis pad. A slow draw shows up in orange (vs. the light blue) and you draw slower, but you get 2x the points. Have fun!
Hey, they were awesome. I’ll probably do more zoo keeper. Love that game. Hopefully you keep making 2600 homebrews. Super skilled!
You have me thinking about how that 2 stick 2600 joystick would work. Now I'll be at home depot buying wood, then smashing nails into 2600 controllers and i'll probably end up with a nail in my foot 🔨 😱
Thought the title said hebrews for a sec I was like “WHOA…”
Spies in the night, Juno first, conquest of mars, alias quest, are some of my favorite homebrew.
Pepsi Invaders was a real game that was made in 1983. Only 125 cartridges were made and it goes for thousands of dollars.
Pac Man in 2k probably isn't going to be great, but my understanding about Atari's Pac Man for the 2600 was bad because they told the programmer to ship his unfinished prototype. Some games are bad because they told the programmer he only had a month to code it. That's hard.
Get a FujiNet for your Atari 8-bit computer. I allow you to play games from an SD card, but the main thing is it allow your Atari to connect via your WiFI. So you can play games directly from the internet.
I want to see a Litterbug movie where the villain is always slapping the hero when he gets too close while he litters.
. O
Mike in most 2600 games I believe B is the EASIER difficulty.
Great take on the Disney nostalgia LOL
Guess this counts as a halo stream
Yes this is my Halo stream
I'm not sure if this is acknowledged at some point, but why is the menu semi unreadable?
the harmony menu is kinda shitty. Atari 2600 needs a better everdrive for sure.
Did the new donkey kong flicker so much on your screen?
The atari 2600 homebrew version?
@@mikematei yeah
i think it was kinda flickery yea
Best Minecraft ever
I wonder how good mike is at warlords.
Thats a fun game
Lets go prove me wronf
Super chill stream Mike! Thank you for doing Atari streams. I’ve started exploring Atari 2600, 5200, and 7800 games because of them 😊
Excellent. Super underrated systems these days.
the funny thing, around 10-15 years ago, the speedrunning community was very niche and scoring had more popularity than speedrunning (with games like flappy birds, rhythm games, etc...).
nowadays, except a few rhythm games like osu, beat saber or geometry dash, or scoring in shmup games (especially touhou games) everyone is just doing speedruns.
Which is my point. Nothing against speed runs. But I dont see why its not more 50/50
Coke rules, Pepsi drools!
FUCK I miss the 80's sometimes...
Edit: Oof... I can't be lookin' at that purple haired broad for too long... fuckin' YIKES.
Hurry back, Mike!
Great video. I made Litterbug. Fun to see you playing it! It was kind of just a side project where it was originally going to be a side game but then it morphed into its own little thing. Simple little 3 screen game - pick up litter, avoid the Karen, and then catch the litter and it alternates the order so hopefully it isn’t that repetitive (although it is hugely repetitive and mind numbing). As things get harder you things happen like the grass moves to obscure the litter, wind moves the litter, or a power line drops down on the grass and you have to avoid it by stepping off the grass and onto the sidewalk (I was a bit limited in what I had remaining and that was the best I could think of).
The part where you catch the litter you have to empty your trash can when it gets full before more litter drops in it.
Anyway, hope you had a bit of fun. It was just one guy behind this game but I didn’t do it in my garage. Too hot. I did it on my lunch breaks.
Yeah I say “in the garage” as a joke. Its how i imagine guys making games in the 80s. Anyway really happy you came here to comment. So did the guy who made zoo keeper. If you know any really good homebrews i didnt play, let me know. And keep up the good work. It was a funny idea for a game.
Eventually I want to turn my garage into a man cave for me and my kids. But a garage in Florida now would probably melt my Atari.
Hopefully I can finish up several of my other projects. So far my only finished game is Pinfinger.
I think out of newer home brews I like a lot of the Champ Games releases, as I’ve seen you played them. They are real good.
I always was fond of Bee Ball. Had a weird and original side view volleyball-like gameplay. Easy to play but hard to master. One of the earliest ones I picked up.
Anyway thanks for the support! I’ve enjoyed your content for years, even your other stuff you had done Back in the day. One of my nicknames for my son actually comes from a Board James episode where you come rolling out on the floor.
These are all really fun games it seems. It’s a shame they were never commercially released because I would have loved playing these as a youngster in the 1980’s. How about creating some of that classic box art for these? That would be awesome if you could.
Hey Mike, where can I get all these homebrews? I'm planning on getting the my arcade game station plus and I think these games would be an awesome addition to it's lineup. 😀
Atari age forums
Mike where can I get an NES ever drive?!
E Bay.
That's where I got my Genesis Mega Everdrive cart.
krizz
Stay Frosty 2 is one of my favorite homebrews and the final version of GORF is an absolute masterpiece.
Mike- In response to what that color of that particular level in Wolfenstein reminds me of, it’s the color of a glass of delicious lemonade of course!
A glass that’s also been pissed in.
I have something worthwhile to contribute Mike...umm....Megaman
Megaman😊
I truly would love to see more exploration in the single screen arcade, like Mike mentioned. There's definitely a lot to explore and discover

Looove the Atari Streams, thanks for the chill good times.
Amazing Atari in 2023
Man the atari 2600 is such an underrated console, but I'm kinda glad it is so the games stay cheap to collect.
Some of the really rare stuff, not so cheap. But yeah. It being less popular than Nintendo and not of much interest to anyone under 30 probably helps keep it down.
@@mikematei Yeah you're probably right on the age group. I'm in my 30s myself, never had an atari until you and James started to point out all the crazy simple games like frogs and flies.
My point is the popular good games go for like $10~15 while on NES it's $50 at least for stuff like Castlevania series nowadays. If you want Stampede for atari, it's like $10 and used to be cheaper. It's a fun console to grab random titles for because it's so affordable.
Heya Mike this was a fantastic stream and thanks for all you do!
Thanks!
@@mikematei Doritos, from me Mike. Also, i suppose the song "That N***** Stole My Bike!" by former My Space superstar Owen Benjamin would be highly inappropriate for Atari 2600 Mike Tyson Punchout music?
Growing up I always thought aracade machine games were lousy quality and that home consoles of the same were better. So childhood memories were always with consoles and that was fine with me. Guess didn't know any better.
Sometime later thru emulation, tried neo geo and was quite impressed how much better the games were.
Usually home ports were inferior to the arcade originals.
By the way I am 100% picking up a Harmony cartridge. They're surprisingly affordable and I'll get to play crazy nonsense like the Zoo Keeper port.
I'm late finding this, but enjoyed your selection. Also, that version of Aardvark you played looks like the old 1982 prototype version - there is a newer and better homebrew version you can download at AA. Both are fun like Oil's Well, of course.
Zoo Keeper on Taito Legends.
I should do a Taito Legends PS2 stream for sure. Probably a few of them..
Used to play Dynamite Cop with my brother in law all the time. Ending in 2 player is awesome! Loved how upset he’d get because I played a bit dirty so I’d win in the end.
Mike did u know that playing video games has a negative impact on ur brain ?
me is play game
had this systeme mike wish i still love the home brew upload looked intresting
I’m leaving a comment like you asked after watching the stream lol.
I wanna see an Atari 2600 mmo. That would be... interesting.
I for one welcome a "litterbug" cinematic universe
Cool 😎👍🏾
Wow! You streamed 2600 Atari games! That’s a lot of games for 1 stream! I’m so annoyed I missed this stream. Glad to catch the premier.
Actually had a look at my list of officially licenced NES & Famicom games to see whether Zoo Keeper was on there. Turns out, it did indeed never come out on either the NES or Famicom (had a look mostly since there were some Arcade games that were released on the Famicom but never on the NES like Galaxian, Space Invaders, Dig Dug, Mappy etc.).
Maybe one day I'll give the Atari 2600 a shot (I have given Hi-Score games a shot ever since watching your streams) but currently, the NES/Master System/Atari 7800 generation is the farthest I want to go back in home video game consoles. The NES is the system I have the most nostalgia for and the height of the Atari was before I was born so I just don't have that much nostalgic attachment to it.
Games that still need a link on your Games I've Beaten On Stream list:
-Master Of Darkness (Sega Master System)
-Dynamite Cop (Sega Dreamcast).
Well, you haven't put up the GBA Space Invaders stream yet, so I'll comment here after seeing some of the VOAWHD.
I will literally go out of my way to not looks something up, like the name of an actor or where I recognize him from or where I know this song from, etc., and try to remember. I think it's literally a skill that many people are gonna have a very hard time with when more and more infrastructure across the country breaks down, as is the case with Jackson, Mississippi's waterworks. The electrical grids will eventually collapse, so the internet will obviously just be gone, and no one's going to even remember the last street they were on, so they won't even be able to find their way home. It's gonna be hilarious in the coming decades.
I think Batman Atari now beats E.T. on Atari for worst game. Unlike ET, Batman actually teases you and leaves you unsatisfied, yearning for more ha.
So bummed I missed this live. A Michael Scott moment AND Mike willed Jr Pac-Man to be faster in live time. Dude is a wizard.
What’s your high score in Pac-Man? (Any version, u pick)
on stream here 165k on ms pac man. Regular pac man i dunno.
For ms pac man, i need a 4way stick because my 8way stick I was using was messing me up
@@mikematei respect to the bow 🎀
Too bleeding edge and modern for me Mike!!! A solid pass! 😒
How about Oscilloscope tennis next time
wow the origin of halo
this is actually the only halo game
The arcade version of Aardvark is called Anteater.
yeah i guess i was saying aardvark wasnt i
Champ Games polished up their final version, the one seen here "if" its by Champ games is an early version. Check out their final relase, so much more polish, right down to the tip of the tongue moving around, it's quite funny and creepy at the same time.
@@Boswd Yeah, the final version of Aardvark is one of the best 2600 games of all time. REALLY good.
I also heard there's a home brew that you can drink that will bring John Candy back to life.
atari 800/XL has many great brews too, a little more powerful than the 2600 as its considered as a " home computer " and it took floppy disks carts and tapes !
Atari XL/XE has a great platformer game from Europe called Cavernia, definitely worth checking out. It's not a home brew I think it came out in 1990 by Zeppelin Games.

Need the Who Framed Roger Rabbit hack already...
Yeah I agree.
That Amoeba Jump game is really neat, and seems to be incredibly addicting. I would've loved to own that as a kid.
It is very simple and very addictive.
Mike I think the issue with high score games on twitch is a couple of things first it requires concentration. So that means you can't really interact with your twitch chat. Also may end up being a long stream if they are good so some people may join but only have a finite time so they may not even get to see the high score at the end.
It requires concentration to speed run as well
Awesome thanks 👍

You already did, Mike...

I Love the 2600
Love the content Mike. The rage videos are hilarious. I liked the " i hate that mouse" song
@@txretrogamingI’ll have to have my editor do more songs 👍🏼
great editor,got that rythm
I had a 2600 when I was six. With 35 games included. My cousin handed it down looking to get rid of it.
I owned it for about a year and nes came out. I remember the day where it got thrown in the trash games and all. The idea was we didn't need it anymore since we had the nes. It was regarded as junk.
I still think about it time to time. Should have kept it if just stayed put up in a closet somewhere. Oh well.
@@bryanna72 It's kind of like ripping open the NES, S-NES AND N-64 game boxes. I never thought I would need them. But now the original game boxes are what I regret throwing out the most! I still have the Sega Genesis plastic game boxes. In my opinion the Sega Genesis game boxes ended up being the best design. 👍🏻🇺🇲
Why
Why what?
Have you ever played the TI-99? It was one of the many consoles that was out in the early 80's before the NES. As much as I loved that thing I was always envious of friends that had atari instead.
Damn, the current programmers can do so much more on the 2600 than people could do back in the day.
Though I used to have friends who had their own company making 2600 games back in the 80s and they were very proud I'm sure - they made cartridges that had a little extra RAM in them or something and they could get one more sprite on the screen than you could get with a regular ROM cart.
I think they actually had that company when they were still in high school.
By the time I knew them, they were working for Synapse software, making games mostly for the Atari 800 and Commodore 64.
Play Intellivision Burger Time.
i should
Congrats on 100k subs Mike!
