I love this! Cool shirt and I am with you on leaning towards Marvel. I grew up on Comics and have loved music since I was young. Very nice list and I get what you're saying about songs that may not be about comics specifically, but have some connection to them, even if not intended. I know at least half of these. There's some interesting notes here that you've shared as well. Good list! The ones that I know of that are in my personal music collection are: Superhero of the computer age by In Flames, Wolverine Blues by Entombed, (the entire album, The Dark Saga) by Iced Earth; It's the story about Spawn. The group They Might Be Giants have always reminded me of comics, because I always heard their music playing at my local LCS. And in current times Stop talking about comic books by Ookla The Mok, which is the theme song for the Everything Comics channel (one of the first five channels that I subscribed to). There have been others, but I can't think of them at the moment. Have a pleasant week! ~Eric
Wings' "Magneto and Titanium Man": "So we went out Magneto and Titanium Man and the Crimson Dynamo came along for the ride." Barbra Streisand's "Superman": "But I am not a bird and I am not a plane, I am Superman."
Great job coming up with a topic that never crossed my mind but has me thinking about it now. I completely forgot about the Weezer song. I was a big fan at the time and saw them live but haven't thought about it in years. Great list!
I've actually attempted to do my own geek/comic inspired Playlist. Kind of hard because I'm sticking solely to songs dealing with actual material. So for example Doctorin The Tardis from KLF and I Am The Law from Anthrax is on there. Psychotron from Megadeth is there also, inspired by Punisher and Deathlok.
The greatest comic book song of all time actually happens to be about the greatest American comic book of all time: Lucero's undeniably catchy "The Devil and Maggie Chascarillo."
I like Paul McCartney & Wings doing "Magneto and Titanium Man", Kinks doing "Catch Me Now I'm Falling" ( references Captain America) and the Spin Doctors doing the song "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" taking Jimmy Olsen's POV on the Lois Lane/Superman romance. A similar motif is used in "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugar Hill Gang.
It's sad to hear the story of why you love the number 1 choice so much. I'm not sure of the rest of the world, but here in Sweden, during the heyday of comics you didn't get bullied for reading them, because everyone did. We actually had a discussion yesterday about it at lunch break, comics were EVERYWHERE, now not so much, you'll be happy if you find a handful of comics in a grocery store. Anyway, I didn't quite grasp what the criteria were more than just any correlation to comics for yourself (?). I'll start with the most obvious thing ever (as usual), Tuomas Holopainen's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck album. I'm also fairly certain I read that Iced Earth did a whole album based on Spawn. I did listen a lot to Iced Earth some 20 years ago, but didn't know that at the time, but I think I've read somewhere it exist AND if I'm not wrong Todd McFarlane did the album cover. Of course Don Rosa did the cover to the first album I mentioned :) But for music from comic movies/tv shows. I have no idea of the music in any of them. I remember the first (?) Spider-Man had some song from Evanescence that made them huge. Tbh, the only song I can even put in something comic related is Kissin' Dynamite - Six Feet Under (Peacemaker). Oh and the "Tetris song" when Mother Russia is going berserk (Kick-Ass), that clip is amazing! :)
Yes the criteria is pretty loose! It just has to have an association with comics in my mind. Yes here in the US comics have never had much acceptance as a "normal thing for adults". Not really...it's better than it was but still not there.
One of the weirder things where Rock & comics meet is the cover to Al Stewart's 1973 album " Past, Present & Future". It has a B&W image of a figure entering a mystic portal. The cape & robes the figure is wearing looks a lot like Dr. Strange. if you enlarge the image you can see more clearly.
Great list, Larry. Godzilla by Blue Öyster Cult didn’t make the list! What? lol Land of Confusion by Genesis mentions Superman. Which perhaps is a bit of a stretch. As it’s only in one line of the song. Granted if all you need is a name drop then perhaps Lullaby by The Cure. These are the only songs I can think of.
If you happen to enjoy Wu-Tang, then you may really get a kick out of Czarface. They're a hip hop collaboration featuring Inspectah Deck from Wu-Tang and all of their music and imagery is based off of old school Marvel comics. You really should check them out. Their stuff they did with MF Doom before he died is top notch. Man, MF Doom is a basically a comic book character come to life that then decides to become an indie rapper.

Thanks for watching! I love that so many people have lists that are completely different! So much music to check out!
Wings' "Magneto and Titanium Man":
"So we went out
Magneto and Titanium Man
and the Crimson Dynamo
came along for the ride."
Barbra Streisand's "Superman":
"But I am not a bird
and I am not a plane,
I am Superman."
I totally forgot about that Wing's song!
Last emperor - secret wars 1 and 2 is possibly one of my favorites about comicbook heroes.
Thanks for adding that!

Thanks! I'm glad you liked this one!
Pretty much every song by Adam WarRock is a comic book song. Lots of references to Marvel comics. I highly recommend his music.
I will have to look that up!

Interesting...that would be a much tougher project!

Thanks so much! I looked that up and it's good stuff!

I forgot about that Spin Doctors song. Love that band!
One of the Spin Doctor's 2 hits was called "Pocketful of Kryptonite"...
@@CB-ke7eq YES.....love that!
@@CB-ke7eq I thought it was "Jimmy Olsen's Blues" but you're right

Superman gets all the mentions! Thanks Deathtone!
Stop I’m already dead is such a good song! I bought this album after watching Izombie. I remember it being a solid album!
I'll have to listen to the whole thing
Batman by Jan and Dean is the greatest.
Oh yeah...that's another good one!
Cool video but I bet one of my favorite comic book songs Protect Your Neck by the Wu-Tang Clan isn't on your list.
Thanks! No I am not familiar with that one!
