Welcome to episode 70 of our 1967 VW Bus restoration UA-cam Series! Here for first time? Watch from the beginning HERE - ua-cam.com/video/1djEZ5ttmHY/v-deo.html
Mic, I've been watching your videos and thoroughly enjoyed it! But you know, sometime you "should" step back away from doing the job and start appreciating the things that Robert has done for you and your lovely wife! Yes, you did sacrifices a lot, money, time, and efforts into this Kona! Hey, I'm hearing impaired myself and I understand your frustration, I've been there! Enjoy the accomplishments, appreciate the help you got in getting the job done! I'm proud of you for doing the 'dream' and didn't make people feel sorry for you! God bless you and your wife!
It is so nice to see Kona going back together. I can hardly wait to see it finished... I can only imagine how YOU feel. Thanks for sharing this project with us.
Hate to say it but this is starting to become a passive-aggressive version of Orange County Choppers… still happy for the progress and looking forward to the finished project but I gotta wonder… Are you & Robert still friends?
Man, I hate that.. never expected it would happen... these people at the shop driving us crazy lately without communicate or any plans and we already told them about deadline 7 months ago... and they are not caring at all, looking forward to get out of that place ....
Wow!! You got a lot of the small details done in this video. You have to expect frustration and setbacks in a project of this scale. I can't wait to see it completed, although I will miss these videos. Thinking of Kona cruising Maui puts a smile on my face!! Thanks for sharing your story!!!
Mitch, I am in the middle of restoring my second bus and I have done everything you have done so far and maybe more. You are doing great and I hope you know the stress was never worth it, enjoy your bus and the experience and thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Your complaining about the work you've gotten done really takes away from the videos. I can absolutely guarantee that no other shop would let you sleep on site let alone have a bug convertible to run around in and work on your vehicle in the shop.your using Robert's tools plus getting his help and considering your getting a full restoration done the timeline is on track .Please quit complaining
It’s been 4 years and I can see and understand the frustration. You will finish it. What am I talking about you are driving it now. I’m sure it worth it now.
Wow….loads of bits and bobs. Be Patient and Patient becomes worthy for your VW Kona. Love the Colours of you Kona. Shame about the Bumper. But in the end of the Day Keep Smile you Both. You are doing Brilliant. Can’t wait for the next episode. Take Care You All. Markieuk
Robert has done wonders for you and i respect that. we all get frustrated at times, maybe best not to show this on vids. I have been watching this since day one and its great to see all the work you have done. As for the paint i understand you have been so frustrated with this so missing these small things would happen all u want is for it to be all done and finished. your doing great and keep up the good work.
You really need to step back and look at all the help they have been giving you. You’re living rent free in a bus behind the shop. You use his bugs to drive around town and get parts. You take your clothes to their house and use their washer and dryer. You’re using everyone’s tools at the shop. I know you don’t know this but in shops like that mechanics are very protective of the tools they bought with their own money and don’t usually let people use them. Also you’re rebuilding this bus from the ground up. A project like that never ever goes smoothly especially the paint. There has never been a paint job that didn’t have runs or needed to be touched up or wet sanded somewhere. I can only imagine what the owner and everyone at the shop would think if they watch this video. Imagine if they didn’t let you live behind the shop. How much extra would that cost you. Imagine if all the mechanics stopped letting you use their tools. Add up the cost of you going out and buying all the tools it requires to rebuild your bus. I don’t think you realize how much help you have been given and how bad you look with all the complaining.
If he wants things done quickly then he should pay with the extorinate amount of money he is making from youtube but you are correct if i was Robert and the guys i would tell you to get your bus and bags and find somewhere else to finish it off and stop being like a stroppy child complaining
Vehicle restoration is a frustrating business Mic. I think you are just doing fine. Most people your age wouldn't have the patience or perseverance to complete such a project. The human things that you are learning will stand you and Lori in good stead for your future. Hang in there buddy.
Great work. It’s almost done. You don’t have to take doors off to do that correction. Just heavily mask and gently paint. So no runs will occur. Bring on 71
All you people complaining about Mick "whining" need to put yourself in check. This is REALITY, things go wrong and they are frustrating. He has a right to have feelings, so how about you either take it as he shares it or go somewhere else where everything is edited to your liking. We're all lucky that he is sharing this at all.
Thank you so much! Yeah, I'm not gonna be fake and not show the downs with the ups.. guess some can't handle reality . Funny how people whine about free content they are watching.. dont you think?
You will keep finding little things that will cause delays but keep your head up it is getting closer to being done each day and you better take your girl out to a nice dinner for being there helping you with the bis
This video ends on March 9th 2022. 10 days before my brother passed away from cancer. I remember at the time watching these videos to help get me through the trauma. Weird thinking about this date and what stage you were at with the VW. I'm glad we're finally seeing it come together.
Love these videos. I know if it was me after the entire build was complete, that is when I would put the VW nose emblem on as the final piece of the build to be the crowning achievement.
Gee dude. Stop complaining. In a build there is always things going wrong. That`s just how it is. You probably almost done by now but some of us do that shit for a living. The bus looks Great. That is a crowd stopper. That is my favorite bus and you and you and Lori are lovely hard working people that is giving life to some thing very special. Nothing like it on this planet. Not even here in Germany. a Like as always..❤
Love watching this project, but don’t like you complaining about Robert and the workmanship. You are getting to do and live what most only dream of doing.
Mic , I agree with most people's comments, reference to your negative comments , and frustration with the progress. One question I have had for a long time, why are the episodes taking weeks to be uploaded onto UA-cam. In the bottom left handed corner of your videos, the dates are March 2022 , it's now December 2023 ?
He's paying a lot of money. I would be frustrated too, if the paint was crappy. As far as the videos go, they take many hours to edit. I would imagine he has to work and try to fit in time to spend with Lori. Believe it or not, that's more important than trying to spend all your time glued to a computer screen
@@ronwilkinson6114 Finally someone who realizes I don't just edit bus videos 24/7 haha. Thank you for your comment, spot on with everything you said :)
i suspect the bus has been done for a long time now, based on the dates of the videos. that means the bus has been gone from roberts shop long before these videos are uploaded. enjoy watching them anyways. i would be pretty annoyed about spending $100 an hour for 2,000 hours or so. there is always issues that crop up during large restoration projects, my full time job. dealing with people can be exceptionally difficult, especially when one party is paying big money for someone else’s services. tempers can flare. if your a viewer who has never been there you wouldn’t understand. i understand all to well.
When it is done, it will be so perfect and flawless, if it were me, I wouldn't want to drive it-wouldn't want to get it dirty! It will look like it belongs in a museum!
Don't forget to roll on/push the sound deadening onto your metal. Love to see the bits being installed, my guess thats the most fun part, new things going on. I have seen many many worse paint jobs, this is not one of them, unless you want concourse style ofcourse.
Cara, relaxa se não vai enfartar. Curta a montagem. Infelizmente não são todos os envolvidos que são cuidadosos e envolvidos!!!!!! Like from Brazil!!!!
The magic bus is looking amazing Mic nice job fella your attention to detail is brilliant. My dear old father god rest his soul used to say son your doing the job anyway what’s the point of cutting corners do it right do it once …and of course he was right …good job 👍
I understand your frustration, however, no one is perfect. Things like this happen in the automotive world the time. You're very fortunate to have the bus, friends, shop and channel. The rest of us who have been enjoying the build would appreciate some creative editing that would eliminate the negativity.
I work very hard for my channel, and have for years. I've grew it sharing my own experiences. I don't show fake, I show reality and this is my experience... the good and the bad.

The paint guy might not care. Crappy paint job is proof and he went on vacation when you needed to chew his as out for shitty work! I'm with you being angry! "DELAYED!" You did give a great listing of companies for parts in the begining of the video. Thank you. They look great. Be a doctor and have some pateince. You will get your chance to chew out the paint guy later. "GET'ER'DONE!" Your doing better than me. I don't even own a VW COMBIE camper van.
How was the paint issue with the doors missed while unmasking, putting them on and aligning, installing parts on them? I don’t get how you are just seeing it after all that?
I noticed you didn't put any oil on the nuts and bolts that hold all the bumper parts together. Oil would protect the tread and washers against the elements over the years and prevent rust in the future. And using WD40 to lubricate the locks ? Shouldn't they be oiled aswell ? Oil would last longer. Apart from that it really is coming along. Very much enjoying each stage and the overall progress. It shows where there can be problems along the way. Keep up the excellent work. Nick in the UK.
