As a Soviet main I agree with the vast majority of the review, except the IS part:
-Yes the IS is harder to pilot vs Tigers, it does require more skill
    - do the War Thunder trick of driving the hull in reverse. At 45 degree angle in reverse u have 150mm armor avg. Even best 88mm shot just gets eaten by a radiator; if it pens harder it hits transmission, only after engine and maybe fire. In comparison frontal shots pen and detonate ammo and fuel. So you end up much more survivable.
    - fire main gun from commander binoc view. Aiming with 122mm is irrelevant, most turret shots on Tiger 2s kill, it's aiming doesn't improve ur pen. But the zoom and stability in commander view is much superior. If commander dies ur just back to gunner view anyhow, so no harm done.
-binoculars view gives you a hunter-killer ability (if u know what that means) vs Axis tankers who almost never use their binoculars.
-keep moving in binoc view while reloading, prevents 88mm from trying to line up a snipe shot; use the .50cal HMG as a sniper murderer in the meantime, duck inside from bombs etc
Making sure you play like this it's doable to have a 5:1 kill ratio vs tiger 2s. Angled ur basically impenetrable by panthers.
So yes harder tank to pilot, but can be made superior to tiger battles.

      A ) cool but I'm talking about IS 2s.
B ) Re turret ring/manlet. that's why I stay in commander view, can fire on the go from there and keep moving throwing off the Tigers aim. Often see them trying to aim the whole time for some weak spot rather than just shoot and reload

24:14 it works because RD is chambered in 7.62x41 and Maxim si chambered in 7.62x54mmR (same round as all soviet MGs and most rifles)
I don't understand the enlisted tank dynamic, keep smallarms op and tanks nothing like the real life. Panther was able to penetrate IS from the fron only under a slight or flat angle to the driver's port and that was about it, similar wioth tigers, although they go for the turret too.
I prefer T-34-85, i had to fire 2-3 rounds at a tiger total of 5 timex max, usually it's 1 shot anywhere unless it is angled.
As for planes it depends on what do you want, most of them are single purpose unlike american and german counterparts. No german plane can beat yak-3 and la-5/7 unless you're against a really good pilot. As for attackers il-2m3 is the way to go imo

I've reached BR5 as the Soviets and I don't see the alleged Soviet bias. As far as I can tell, the Germans are given the most bias. Allies are fine, not great, but good players typically play American. Japanese need to be buffed, but the Soviets are crippled if they fight against a Tiger II. The Soviets "best" tank takes forever to reload and don't even dent Tiger IIs while tiger IIs one shot the IS-2 easily.
That should not be the case. If the IS-2 at least had the ability to either shrug off tiger II shots or one shot tiger IIs then that would make for an interesting dynamic in the game. Hell, if they removed the IS-2 1944 or the regular IS-2 for the IS-3.
As for planes, the ONE thing Soviet fighters have is slightly more nimble. Their ammo capacity is trash, and the bomb loads at tier 3-5 don't compare to even the BF-109 variants in terms of bomb loads.

Also re RNM50, give it a shot. I run it as a grenadier team leader in my squads, it's a basically a hand mortar cannon, with 12 mortar shells with large ammo pack. Bigger splash than grenades or grenade launchers
Cycling them it's not uncommon to get 40 kills per game. Room / position cleaning easily kills 4-6 soldiers per shot. In CQB you need max state down perk because ull be on the floor with first aid kit while enemy team is all dead 😅

At 21:40 is it bad that i can practically hear the soviet anthem playing in the background when mowing down multiple squads of germans without reloading while using the RD-44?. Soviet bias indeed. 😂
I remember how broken this was when soviets were allowed to bring this into BR 1-2 in the first week after the soviet paratroopers dropped.
Most fun I've ever had punishing german sweatlords on BR 2. Even though that shouldn't have happened to begin with.
Landed on a roof in stalingrad BR 2, and i seen a small booth/stand someone placed a rally point at with no cover on between their rally and the objective 100m and i managed to mow down 3 squads in the span of 40-60 seconds with next to no retaliation from the helpless germans.
One of them eventually managed to kill me but the damage was already done by then as i went through 200 bullets out of my 400 total bullets. (Reserve included per soldier as everyone gets an additional 300 bullets on top of your 100 in the drum for the RD-44. And you get 3 of these dudes in the same squad totalling about 1200 bullets between everyone in the squad.
Gaijin worked fast to nerf it as i think they nerfed it 5 daya later.
But by then the damage was already done and terrified most players of ever playing BR 2 germans until the nerf came out.
Had multiple games where we had at least 8 soviet players running Paratroopers with RD-44's definetly was the most toxic week of enlisted to be sure.

I would prefer they give soviet AT soldiers a bag with few anti tank grenades (RPG-40) for low BR and maybe a prototype of LPG-1 (first version developed in 1944 of the typical soviet era RPG) for high BR for the sake of faction authenticity.. No matter how strong and broken the Panzerfaust is I don't think captured weapons should be in tech tree unless you are China lol but now it's too late to remove it. It's similar to what happened with AA guns, people got tired of old AA spam and now every faction has its own one but its crappier and can't aim to the ground
And I don't really think it's oppresively bad to have this op combos as AS44 / Fedorov. Assault squads wear KGB cap which if you buy the whole soviet bias starter pack then you can argue they are political edgelords with contacts in the Party and can draw some from the stockpile lol
Overall good faction but better enjoyed at low BR with mosins and good tanks apart from T28. Just found that event BT-7 from Stalingrad a few years ago, (this one with MG on the top), is BR2 and has bigger cannon than average BT-7, same speed and different turret, lot of fun I guarantee

    • @ajohnymous5699
      @ajohnymous5699 2 місяці тому

I wouldn't say "pay to win" but I will say Paratroopers and motor/mech infantry NEED to be included in the free to play tree.
Honestly a BA-6 or one of the other armored cars in the Soviet tree and the IS-100 or T-44/100 are needed to offset the German halftrack with MG and the Tiger II. Flanking a tiger II is more luck than skill and the one hit kill the Tiger II has on the IS-2 while the IS-2 is unable to kill a Tiger II is simply absurd. It's a 122mm gun with a horrible reload, it SHOULD be able to kill a Tiger II and deflect hits. They need to buff Soviet heavy tank armor at the very least, because the IS-1 is basically a slower T-34/85. Paratroopers being able to drop anywhere in the map is a huge and unfair advantage as well.
But the game is very much a game of skill. I've popped into games with units equipped only with the Mosin M1907 in BR 5 and did fine, it was harsh but being able to kill people from a distance more effectively made up for my shortcomings.
