For those who don't know this song was inspired by the Toronto Airport VOR identifier which is KYYZ...Toronto Airport. Rush always flew through there as it was their home. The rhythm in the beginning of the song is morse code for YYZ. When pilots tune their NAV radio to a VOR navigation beacon, they hear the morse code for that particular site. Alex Lifeson was working on his pilot's license at the time and they heard it when they were flying. Neil and Geddy started working with that rhythm and this magical song was born. As a pilot and a Rush fan...this is amazingly cool. Now you understand the video too.🙂

Alex just screams and moans with his playing while Neil and Geddy give such perfect counterpoint and timing. They always sounded like 15 guys instead of 3 in sheer size. 1:49 pearts fill here is my favorite drum fill ever. He plays sextuplets moving from the snare to the high Tom, then 2 sixteenth notes to start bar 2, then uses 4 sixteenth note triplets on each Tom down spaced apart by 1 sixteenth note each. It’s ridiculously hard to play that rhythm cleanly as fast as he does it. But the best part is, in the groups of 4 sixteenth note triplets, he accents the third and fourth hits. It’s so hard to play and it’s killer.
