Absolutely fascinating source. Who knew that Samurai life encouraged patience and forbearance? I always assumed they were supposed to kill quickly and express rage to show demonstrate the extent of their power. This kind of protocol reminds me of the Law of Moses.

Look into Antony Cummins, he isn’t a good source. Doesn’t speak or read the language and he changes the text to sound better in English, his translator that translates the Japanese into English for him can’t read Classical Japanese and has it translated from someone else.

As a Japanese I've never heard about this. So I googled it. the Scrolls were written by a military scholar Masazumi Natori for samurai's in Kishu clan, but they were not very popular among the samurais. The clan adopted other school of military conduct. And this Natori-ryu became a guiding code of conducts for Ninjas, I learned. It was very interesting. Thank you.

For the one being executed, he needs to accept it with grace and resolve. If he panics or faints on the news, it's a shame. If he loses composure and draws his sword to fight back, he will end up either forfeiting his land, having his family stripped of rank or executed as well, etc etc. So in the end, much in the same way a kaishaku will cut the head off, at the moment of the first stab, in seppuku (hara-kiri) to save the agony of slitting the belly, it is also in a way a mercy. I love this kind of writing. Both the Japanese and European feudal societies came up with codes and morals to civilize war; the most uncivilized of practices. They invented chivalry and bushido during times of peace. They were literary devices. They were never practiced on a battlefield. Feudalism is no different than a mafia organization. Everybody takes what they can as long as you send a percentage up the line. Knights and samauri were just gangsters in armor.

Look into Antony Cummins, very controversial figure in the MA and Japanese history communities. Neither one of the two mentioned can read Classical Japanese, Antony cannot read or speak the language yet he is trying to recreate this school. They have someone translate the Classical Japanese into modern Japanese then which Minami then retranslates. For those who don’t know Classical Japanese is extremely different than modern. After that he reinterprets in English to sound better. So the accuracy must be taken with a grain of salt. If you are familiar with Japanese history texts you probably know who Karl Friday is, and he too says to avoid Antony. Again he doesn’t actually know japanese and interpreting it to what he sees fit. He even talks about this in videos.

We Vannatru, Freya's people, hold Freedom to be the Prime virtue upon which all virtues are built. For how can one claim that an act is virtuous if it is not freely executed?
A man who forfeits his freedom must be buried with his mother 20 feet below the ground, lest they poison the cattle.
A man must be free, and not a slave, even to himself.
