A lot of people have hoped that someone would subtitle the 2nd season in English, but it hasn't happened at least yet. Maybe someday but for now, I'm afraid you can't watch it unless you speak Finnish (or Japanese, Hebrew, Norwegian, Polish if those dubs have been uploaded somewhere in the internet).

Wow, you can really tell the difference in animation between the two seasons. The major season was certainly fantasy inspired with whimsical sound affects and the occasional unrealistic or sporadic movement, but this minor season takes it up a notch. The characters are far more expressive and I would even call the animation as malleable with their movements.

The Moomin from the 90's were divided in 4 seasons. the first two seasons had a narrator, the third didn't. these three seasons were done by one studio that worked whit Tove and her family, to do the show right. thus episode 78 is often considered the true end of the show. but do to popularity and demand from some few fans lead to a another studio to produce the forth season. but because of quality, pace, atmosphere and characteristic being vastly different from the three first season and in more of a resembles of the shows from the 60's (that tove didn't have much liking for) have lead to people to conclude that the forth season is a separate show all together
The forth season is the worst, but I still find it enjoyable and some of the episodes are really funny, especially with the extreme difference with expressions etc.
If y'all want all of the glorious snufkin expressions I highly recommend watching episode 19. The expressions he gives in that episode has made me scream in how adorable he looks!!!!

It's not really so out of context because even full episodes are just as out of context, confusing and fucked up. You start thinking 'Is this really Moomin?' It's not. It's 60's Moomins all over again. Never leave Japanese alone with the Moomins!

yeah the director, writers, almost the entire staff for the anime changed for this season. my theory is that the staff for the first season might have been busy working on the comet in moominvalley movie which came out after this. also this season is more based on the comics (many of which were no longer written by tove but rather her brother lars) which are way more chaotic but imho this season didnt quite capture their spirit either

In second season the stories were taken from comic strips of both Tove Jansson and Lars Jansson, Tove´s brother who also made Moomin stories but he was mainly cartoonist. The stories in Moomin cartoons were different and had some anarchy in them for example in cartoon from the 1960s, Muumit Torrerolcalla, known also as Muumit Rivieralla (Eng: Moomins on the Riviera), Moomins try to buy cannabis and smoke it. They didn´t do that in the movie tho. Also that time travel shit in the series is at least partly from the cartoons.
I never even knew there was a second season! But honestly......... kind of glad I didn't XD it might look like season 1 at first glance but it's definitely lost the calm tenderness the first season so expertly achieved. It's too bad.

That Hemulen clip, and the whole episode it's in, is even funnier in finnish. His voice actor really gets to shine in it. One of the better parts of that season definetly.

In season 2. moominpappa becomes crazy inventor and kind of an asshole, Snufkin becomes an idiot (like suuper idiot compared to season 1). All characters are just... not themselves in season 2

Even as a kid I used to absolutely hate the 2nd season. Compared to the first season and it's pacing, the 2nd season just went too overboard and chaotic. Even as a 10 year old I thought it turned to shit.

I wasn't aware that there were a season 2 or seasons in general in moomins. When I was a kid moomins would show on tv every morning but they weren't really seasoned. there were some episodes that were rarer than others but for example, the babysitter episode was one of my favourites

The animation being dated can obviously be somewhat forgivable for the time, but at some moments he genuinely looks crossed-eyed/derpy in the face... The art style didn't suit the Little Prince at all. In the series he goes to earth doing random earthlike things, like working on a farm. They completely scraped him visiting different asteroid planets and the characters he met on them and lessons he learn. All the symbolism and messages The Little Prince is famous for isn't there. It's like his character was used for something completely unrelated to him and the only reason him being used is for being a famous and cultural character. When he goes to earth nothing about the places he visits ever makes you think of France. His Rose girl is a person sort of, which is kind of weird given she is ever show as looking like a genuine rose. Everyone knows she's based off a real person but she was never shown as actually being humanoid. I didn't like that change because roses have a symbolic look for love and is a commonly given flower in the Western world in terms of romance. So her being humanoid kind of ruined the real life relatability of it. Makes her seem like a flower themed fairy not an actual rose. A small thing I disliked was his clothes not looking like what he wore in the books and him not having his notable spiky hair. It's swayed looking for some reason. The series just didn't have that heart, passion and emotion The Little Prince is known for.... The only thing I can I think of I liked was the Japanese opening song, its so cute. lol You should here it! The show isn't the worse thing in the world but those asteroid travels they got rid of meant a lot to me as a kid.
Say what you will about english speaking countries not getting season 2 localized, but Germany didn't even get all of season 1. They just stopped after episode 52 for some reason. So German viewers never actually got any closure for Snork's story arc.
when snufkin left moominvalley in the first season, it all goes downhill from here (i know snufkin is here in this season too but you know what i mean)
I'm polish, and we have all of the 90's moomins translated, and I found it all on UA-cam so I told myself that I'll watch ALL of the 90s moomins. i watched it all to the 78th episode and I enjoyed it, but then it's season two and i can tell you that even with context to these episodes, i don't really get them. they're so chaotic and weird. I'm currently on the 100th episode but i don't think I will watch the next ones because it's a pain to watch. thank you for reading my comment which probably makes no sense

I'm polish, and we have all of the 90's moomins translated, and I found it all on UA-cam so I told myself that I'll watch ALL of the 90s moomins. i watched it all to the 78th episode and I enjoyed it, but then it's season two and i can tell you that even with context to these episodes, i don't really get them. they're so chaotic and weird. I'm currently on the 100th episode but i don't think I will watch the next ones because it's a pain to watch. thank you for reading my comment which probably makes no sense
