But in the wolf of wall street it wasn't a "troll", it actually happened. The actual dude is just as unapologetic of an asshole as they make him out to be in the end of the movie, and learned nothing from his actions.
I know Wolf of Wall Street did well to stick to the source material, but just saying a film gets it right because it’s based on a true story is quite blind. 99% of films “based on a true story” are completely and utterly inaccurate. The term based on a true story means they heard a story and that story was then used to fabricate a story around key moments. Sometimes the film is completely and utterly different. The Imitation Game for example is the most accurate story of the Enigma Code put on screen, but it’s still 80% false.
TheJohnMaca Literally the first thing I said was that Wolf of Wall Street stuck to source material. But your initial comment suggests that just because a film is based on true events it means it’s all true.
The ending for Fallen Kingdom wasn't really a hopeful "we can all coexist". I see it as an exhausted "i told you so" from Ian Malcolm, and now that people have unleashed this catastrophic change on the world we are going to be FORCED to adapt and coexist. As he says "these creatures were here before us and if we're not careful, they are going to be here after". Similar vibes to the ending of Rise of the Planet of the Apes for me, a feeling of MAYBE we can adapt and coexist but I have a bad feeling about what comes next.
Sam Raimi loved trolling us with his endings of the 2 “Evil Dead” films (since his original ending to “Army of Darkness” is non-cannon) & yep “Drag Me to Hell” counts with the troll move
The ending of Cabin Fever is straight out of the original Night of the Living Dead, when the sole survivor gets killed when he's mistaken for a living dead himself.
@@MarcLombart Not according to the actor himself. It was his idea of an ending, not Romero's. None of the living dead in the entire film knew how to handle a rifle, you know...

Some theorize it’s actually her way of thanking him. Kill him and his son, and in that way to be reconnected forever. That’s what I took from it considering how emotionally dead Daniel’s comes across as.
The ending of War of the Worlds. After all that happens, it turns out the thing that wiped out the invading aliens...was a common cold. As the narrator puts it, God created the common cold in anticipation for when aliens invade. lol The ending of Signs had a similar twist against the aliens: water. Yup, aliens with advanced enough technology to go to other planets to prey upon them didn't think through the strange blue planet that is mostly water.
The original infernal affairs ending was better. The Departed’s ending is a happy ending that offered closure, when compared to the original HK version’s ending.

I don't know if it would classify as a troll ending but the ending of 1984's Birdy was definitely a WTF ending. Seeming to jump off a rooftop to his death, Birdy's friend yells out his name and rushes to the edge of the building to discover Birdy only jumped onto a slightly lower adjacent rooftop. The movie ends immediately after Birdy looks back at his friend and asks, "What?" I saw this on video but i would have loved to have seen how a movie audience responded to that ending.
The ending to ‘Filth’. Main character literally looks at the camera and laughs at you before hanging himself just when you think he’s gonna change his life around
The true number 1 is Star Wars The Rise of Skeywalker, as the entire movie comes out of nowhere with a WTF climax for the 8 movies before it spanning all the way back to the 1970’s. .
in wolf of wall street he plays a sociological character that ending isnt trolling its logical its the next step a sociopath would take being kicked out of said circles, there are plenty of examples
Why the sudden lack of quality in regards to the green screen footage? Might I suggest a change in background (image used) and lighting? If not at the very least colour grading.
The ending of Cabin Fever was just a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Guy was dumb for going back, especially considering the reason he left.
So here’s my problem with your Wolf of Wall Street entry. It’s a true story. It wasn’t written to have bunch of twists. It was based on the real Jordan Belfort’s biography.
How is the Dragon Quest movie not on this list? That ending wasn't just a massive troll, it was an "F you, you're pathetic for even trying to like this movie or series". It's not just a troll, it is an insult to the entire fan base of Dragon Quest and video games in general.
A movie ending that trolled us? What about Kevin Smith's Red State? The director of the View Askewniverse and titular character Silent Bob, Kevin Smith rocked our socks off with his 2010 religion run amuk horror action thriller, Red State. A movie about a fanatically religious cult who kidnaps boys to kill the sin out of them, or just kill them. I'm not sure what the point was for the killing. Anyway, when the tihs hits the fan, it turns from psycho family killing teens in the name of Jesus to shooting it out... in the name of Jesus. The ending sees the cult leader, played amazingly by Michael Parks, coming out of the cover of his compound to confront the government agent, played by the equally brilliant John Goodman. As a loud horn blares, Goodman asks Parks "What is that, preacher?" The reply is along the order of "Why son. It's Judgement Day. So shoot me..." Do we get some wild ending, like the comedies of our auteur, wacky wild and larger than life? No. We get a description of the remainder of the encounter, narrated by Goodman during his debriefing, telling us all how the horn was a prank by kids. To hear the director tell it, we could have had much more, with the Horsemen of the Apocalypse killing nearly everyone, a veritable bloodbath of Peckinpah proportions.
Easy Rider also had Hopper regale that they had really done it, only to have Fonda reply, "No, we blew it man." and not EVER explain what the heck Fonda meant.
That's the best scene in the movie, for the simple fact that you don't know what he means. Maybe he's talking about their cross-country trip, or maybe he's talking about their entire generation. Who knows?

TBF, Daniel Radcliffe's character was reunited with his wife in death. I think of it more as the Woman in Black showing gratitude for what he was trying to do in her own twisted way.
