Butin has a great and humble way to put Richter into a context. I am reading Gerhard Richter Editions 1965-2013. It has a over 100 pages by Butin and I am in love with it.

Yes, his text is an enormously valuable contribution towards understanding the productive and liberating possibilities when employing a cultural historical approach to the problem of making an image rather than a 'work' in contemporary visual culture. Have highly recommend his text to everyone I am in close professional contact with for the past decade and will continue to do so. Butin's text encouraged me to research and collect artist ephemera (printed matter) and artist books as an adjunct to my interest in critical post 1960's art practices.
