When I found Kof xiii... It's exactly what I always thought fighting games were supposed to be. Fast, difficult, high execution and above all else, really fun and rewarding to play. The ways all the moves interact with eachother are so cool.
juicybox. thank you for KoF 14 general knowledge. but thank you for more than that. this is a great video, dont ever let me forget this. this helped me in fighting game knowledge in general. i feel that this is great informtion in any fighting game period, and i feel that this has helped me improve my passion in the fgc altogether in the community. because.. well.. lets just say thats a story for another day. fighting games have always been an outlet for me to learn and appreciate the a antiquities of the world of a somewhat..prowess.. anyways im on a drunk tangent. i find KoF14 as a comfort in many ways and your tutorials have helped me come to my terms as a depressed/obliterated human in a ways and i thanl you. ive been listening y to you on podcasts since 2013 or so and youre a big inspiration. sorry as ive been dribkii g hard liquer but thank you :)
I searched so many different keywords and scoured through so many threads and videos but nothing was as good as the explanation in this old video from 2016.
Like, I get what Juicebox is trying to say - but he made it sound like it's easy to pick up characters in Tekken after learning one and that is very much not the case. The only thing I can compare is that in Tekken and KoF you can do pretty much anything you want as long as you set it up properly where as in SF the game will flat out prevent attacks from connecting if it doesn't fall within the systems rules.
I think that's kinda why I've begun to gravitate more towards KOF. It seems like learning the system is a lot easier then Learning every single individual character.
>but he made it sound like it's easy to pick up characters in Tekken after learning one and that is very much not the case. If you play proper tekken and not eu tekken it is indeed pretty easy. For most chars your basic decision making is going to be about the same and execution is also not an issue for most of the cast with the exception of chars like mishimas. Most legit players can confidently play half of the games cast. However, because fundamentals of tekken arent very easy to grasp it will be a long way before you will be able to get to a level where characters dont matter.
You explained the differences extremely well. As much as people praised XIII, the system and, tbh, the art design was a turn-off for me. As someone who adores '98 and 2002, I am so damn excited for this next entry. Who are you amped for that hasn't been revealed yet? What new characters look like they'll be neat to you?
5:00 Grab invulnerability on wakeup is like Super Turbo? What? Isn't SF2 infamous for not having grab invulnerability after blocking and after waking up, leading to the most oppressive tick grabs in fighting game history? Then after that, most games changed that by adding grab invulnerability after blocking or waking up.
Late, but the SF2 series has a random amount of throw invul within a certain range of values. However, it does not have throw invul when coming out of hit or blockstun. This, combined with “Hold” type throws (the kind you have to mash to get out of) that can’t be softened like normal throws, is what leads to tick throws being so good in ST.
Excellent analogy and introduction to KOF Juicebox. Anyone want to get into KOF to play/practice anticipating KOF XIV release add me on XBLA be sure to have 2002.
It might not be a very important aspect of the game, but what do you think about the graphics and the art style of KOF14? Quite some people seem to be upset that "it's looking like an upscaled ps3 game".
So weird that I found this video just now..I actually got King of Fighters XIV. For someone who has never played a KOF game it is pretty difficult, however I like it a lot and its all about learning the mechanics and the system of the game to make it I guess..bearable. I know you mention that this game, Tekken, and Virtua Fighter is about learning the system than character choice however doesn't that apply to all fighting games.
Juice I never looked at it that way as in kof being more about the game/game mechanics and not so much about what characters you pick i also think smash4 is the same way what are your thoughts on smash4, do you agree?
I would say kind of, but there are clearly chars in SSB4 that get clearly outclassed by other chars. Like Ganon vs Cloud, Falcon vs Pikachu, etc. I think that SSB64 is the most balanced game out of the series, even moreso than P:M.
SNK Playmore could solve the speed issues of gameplay by offering up a speed option at the menu screens couldn't they Juicebox? Also don't know if you're aware of it but plenty of KOF XIV videos show Iori's Maiden Smasher *super* being canceled into his *Desperation moves* in combo videos and training vids all over YT Juicebox. What's your opinion on all of that! Think you meant multiple supers can't be canceled into desperation moves one after another as in KOF XIII?, but it is possible to go from one; Super into one 'Desperation' special however in KOF XIV though!
Kof is better than street fighter. Street Fighter V looks like WWE All Stars. Every character looks like a wrestler from that game. Kof XIV looks more real because of their physique.
There are ways to play normal matches until you go to the team format. The game is kinda hampered by it but it is an option. Also there are a lot of characters designed to be easy for players from other games.

thank you so much for this, going into KOF from SF this is exactly the information I needed.
My biggest problem with KoFXIII is that I couldn't find anyone to play with. That game seems so fantastic.
Rollback is coming out next month. See you online?
@ Insane, why are they adding it now?
Obligatory mention of Dandyj's video on how to play KOF. Find it, watch it, spread it.
+Péter Kovács yes!!!
Im glad you're still riding for KOF!!
That explanation was amazing. You just got a new sub. Can't wait until the 23rd

Very good explanation, I feel like I have a better understaning on what I like about KoF and Tekken.
+Chu E. I feel the same thing.
It's great to come back to this and remind myself why I get KOF more than I get SF.
Kof has the best combo system. Just saying.
Very interesting video, man! I have to make sure to catch your stream next time.
i cant wait for KOF XIV
I searched so many different keywords and scoured through so many threads and videos but nothing was as good as the explanation in this old video from 2016.
great analogy

You probably just suck

Who are you amped for that hasn't been revealed yet? What new characters look like they'll be neat to you?
Seeing those "did snk confirm that they're using ggpo in kof14" got me giggling. So sad at the same time, finally it's true for 15
@Péter Kovács and Dandy J's how to Play VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 fs..💖.
Interesting I always considered KOF more like a 2d Virtua Fighter because VF and KOF and very aggressive. Nvr thought of comparing it to Tekken lol
Virtua fighter was 2d on the genesis to be fair.
KOF2002UM rollback netcode, hype!

which of the chars that are new from XIII to XIV are you most interested in? I like nakoruru
+UserUnknown Nelson, Banderas, and KING OF DINOSAURS
+carlos650cdsl no he's a new character as you can see in that leaked roster imgae, KOD is highlighted red which means new characters
+carlos650cdsl and have you seen his gameplay he doesn't even play like tizoc.
also he says zet's met's hurricane not justice hurricane.
Thanks, saved me from purchasing the kof!
Def. do not want anything faster
Wonder what would the slowest fg be
Samurai showdown
Excellent analogy and introduction to KOF Juicebox. Anyone want to get into KOF to play/practice anticipating KOF XIV release add me on XBLA be sure to have 2002.
Dam this game seems hard if it's a lil fast pace
Great vids plz do 1 about samurai showdown

+dlat80 I think it looks great.
+Juicebox FGC KOF 14. :)

Eww dude. Don't compare those games lol gross tr4sh

Their physique is mostly wack, though.
i thought the last KOF was awesome but that net code was garbage teir. As long as they fix that this game will be so awesome i'm sure.
netcode of kofxiii is okay on pc.
I more or less call it Street Fighter if they tried to be more Anime Style fighters (mechanic wise)
But KoF isn't anything like SF.
I ain't learning 3 characters to start playing, thanks.
Noob
He spent 11 minutes explaining that if you just learn the game's system, you can pick any charac...you know what? Never mind.
Scrub.
3 characters a day keeps the sf scrubs away.

TL;DR, uninstall? (:
