Why Eren was reluctant to fight with Annie. The following information is NOT spoiler this is info that has already been given this season and should be understood. But if not this will also clarify things. Firstly LOVE your in depth conversations. And how you even brought up a book on trauma. It is Trauma that paralyzed Eren. he was 9 When he saved Mikasa (stated in his Trial) 10 when the walls were broken into and the whole tragedy happened (the years stated in the episodes) 11 when all they had was Armin's Grandpa and were sent to farm the lands with no success and then the Grandpa the only adult they had, was sent off to die in titan infested wall Maria (implied then and clarified by Pixis later) They enlisted the next year (As he Armin and Mikasa were discussing while Armin held his grandpa's hat). He enlisted in the cadets at 12 and would go through 4 years of training (stated by Shadis when he was yelling down on them) Meaning he is as of now a 15 year old kid. In their training episodes one officer supervising mentioned those who had seen "hell" were being skipped by Shadis to be yelled at. That they could tell by the eyes. Those who were being yelled at had to be broken down to be built back up as soldiers. meaning loss after loss, trauma after trauma, by then Eren was already broken down. primed to be re programmed as a soldier as it was all he had left. As a literal Orphan who only has revenge on titans to live, this is why he then sees the cadets as a surrogate family. Any loss or harm to them deeply affects him. (hence why ppl should not skip the OVA "Distress") because it shows this. Meaning he is still a scared boy. But also because he himself is a titan who they are fighting to save instead of kill, but won't try to investigate if Annie is even being cohered to do this or not and simply mistrust her. This is why he asks how can they fight her. Because deep down he knows they could fight him too if situations developed to do so and it scares and hurts him.
I just realised Mikasa's facial expression is a foreshadow/parallels to something happening later in the series...how do I keep finding out new things about the show even after the 100th+ AOT youtube reaction binge...
