The ‘song of Devorah’ in Judges chapter 5:1-31 is one of the very oldest PaleoHebrew poems in the unpointed Hebrew Bible - yet there are no ‘12 tribes’ - there are only 11 and many of the most important later Yisroelite tribelets are completely absent from her list : Yehudah = Judah (‘amphyctiony’) is absent; Levi is not on her list of tribes; Gad and Shimeon are also not found … Instead strange tribes are listed among the 11 including the tribelets of Meroz, Gilead & Makhir … So FOUR tribelets of the ‘11’ are completely missing & 3 new ones seem to be added into the mix in ‘Deborah’s Song’ - So literalist-minded fundamentalists (whether Jewish, Christian or Muslim) have a MAJOR problem with the earliest ‘history’ of the messy Yisro’elitish tribes … Although it seems that none of these literalists dare to discuss or refute the poetic statements in Judges … and people walking around claiming ‘the Bible is true in every single detail’ and that ‘there are exactly 12 tribes of Israel’ have never bothered to read the Hebrew Bible (‘old testament’) in the oldest versions of the unpointed paleoHebrew traditions … If these persons ever did bother to do the ‘hard linguistic work’ they would see that the lists simply DO NOT MATCH - NB: even in the ‘Greek canonical new testament’ there is yet ANOTHER list of tribes (this time the total has been raised to 12 in the ApocYoh. aka ‘book of Revelation’) that omits altogether the tribelet of Dan (from whence ‘the Beast’ is supposed to have arisen) but the half-tribelet of ‘Manasseh’ has been inserted into its list of tribes to replace the tribe of Dan which the writer (‘Yohannon of Patmos’ whoever he was…) had removed as if it never existed - People often speak of ‘the lost tribes of Yisro’el’ but are unaware of the Assyrian invasions (736-701 BCE) which deported the elites of these tribal groupings into Nineveh (including metalworkers, scribes, administrative staff, priests, the wealthy & influential &c-in other words anyone who could foster a rebellion were ‘removed forcibly from the scene’) and replaced by 20,000 or more good law-abiding 4-faced Ashur-worshipping Assyrian citizens - whilst the middle classes finding themselves caught in the middle fled south to greater Yerushalayim as refugees [archaeological digs in the 1970s and ‘80s shew that the population of greater Yerushalayim grew between 721 - 701 BCE from c. 8,500 persons to over 35,000 persons - NB: evidence of mass migrations of many northern peoples in the south fleeing the invading Assyrians leaving only the very very poorest still minding the food supply including cows, sheep, olive trees, grape vines etc cf. ‘In that Day the poor shall inherit the land’ i.e. of Yisro’el) and gave rise to the slogan ‘In that day the salvation of Yisro’el [in the north] shall come from the Judaeans [i.e. in the south]’ deliberately misquoted to sound ‘more universal and sellable’ in John 4:22 ‘For [it is written] Salvation is from the Judaeans’ making the quotation (originally from the Testament of Naphtali found amongst the dead sea scroll fragments in Aramaic but eventually the longer work ‘the testament of the 12 patriarchs being the sons of Yakkov’ was ultimately voted out of the Bible after Nicaea (yet NB: the 80 million strong Christian Aethiopic church still keeps it in their bibles along with 22 additional books not included in modern 66-book Protestant ‘bibles’) Long story short the more you delve into the common assumptions among hoo polloi about the ‘12 tribes’ the more you can see ‘variations’ in the various northern & southern Yisto’elite oral traditions over time… But orthodox Jews & fundamentalist-Christian ‘sheeple’ are never told any of this by their respective clergies - living in fear that their ‘tax free offering plates’ would be empty each week…

Where are the tribes? Read ACTS 9, the conversion of Saul/Paul. The deported Israelites to Syria had complained about many of them converting to Christianity. Israelites in the New Testament are referred to as the natural branches, Romans 11.24. While referring to others as a wild olive tree that have been grafted in. And warns believers not to boast because God can also cut off those that have been grafted in if they’re prideful about it. 4) Going North would be going in the direction of their enemies and invaders, so that doesn’t make sense. Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks, Romans, Medo-Persians. Egypt was the Israelites favourite place to escape to during times of trouble. Scripture is clear they went South even during the Babylonian exile: Jeremiah 44:14 "None of the remnant of Judah who have gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, to which they long to return and live; none will return except a few fugitives.” So much so that they had to be warned not to go back into Egypt: Jeremiah 42:19- The Lord has spoken to you, O remnant of Judah, “Do not go into Egypt!” Know with certainty that I [Jeremiah] have warned you and testified to you this day
