  • After visiting southern Niigata, we headed to the mysterious island of Sado. This island used to be a political exile spot until gold was discovered at the early 1600s.
In this video, we learn a little history as we explore the island's deep gold mines, visit the world-famous Kodō taiko group (taiko = Japanese drums), savor delicious local cuisine, and indulge in onsen (hot springs) at a mysterious hotel.
Kindly check out part 1 as well where we explore southern Niigata:
    • Japan's most underrate...
Niigata can be combined with the nearby Noto Peninsula ( • The perfect side trip ... ), Kanazawa, Takayama ( • Hida Takayama - retro ... ), or Yamanaka Onsen ( • Cozy hot spring town i... ).

I have read the novel you mentioned, and it is creepy to say the least! I am glad your hotel wasn't really like it at all

Haha, have you? That's cool to hear! The hotel really did have those vibes, but it did not feel scary though. You should check out this short film based on the novel: ua-cam.com/video/NJzSyfMIwgs/v-deo.html It's creepy, but beautiful 🌱
