Amy Carmichael

Amy Carmichael died on January 18, 1951. She was known for her Christian poetry-hundreds of poems, much of which were written to honor and edify the children of India. She was a Protestant missionary in India for more than five decades, rescuing thousands of girls and young women from forced prostitution.
In 1901, she founded an orphanage and a mission, the Dohnavur Fellowship-an organization helping children even today. Her poetry and writings were filled with biblical themes and references to remind herself and others of the motivation for serving others. “Love, the truest, deepest kind of love, gives and goes on giving,” and quoting Paul, who in turn is quoting Jesus, from Acts 20:35, she wrote: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
