cheers. Yeah, I've seen em, but it's a marine protection zone, so possibly you'd be breaking some sort of bylaw if you got hold of any. Although I used to speak to an old bloke on a summer Sunday morning who used to swim out further in his speedos with a gidgee and a net. He always came back with a bagful. He also wore a shark deterrent thingy?!?
Beautiful Andy you must of had a great time! No over fishing in that sea! Lovely to see all those fish. Hope Alfie is feeling better good to see him up and about.😊
+Mandy Campbell thanks. Yep, trouble is readjusting to this cold & damp climate. It was the hottest part of the year down there & poor Alfie couldn't even have a dip in the ocean to cool off. I have a film from the forest next up... it's gonna take a while to finish though, good to hear your comments as always !
You're welcome, I wish I could wake up from my Corona depression. I can't even visit WA again until 2022/3 at the earliest as they've closed the borders to visitors until that time. This madness has to end soon. what I'd give right now for a dip at the reef at Cottesloe.
Am I? that's nice to hear, it really is. I was only watching this for the first time in years yesterday, so nice to get positive comment today, cheers.
last swam here in 1967 when i was 9 yrs old.live next to the sea in devon, england.Remember fishing off the beach at cotesloe and a guy caught a record 435lb porbeagle shark next to me
That's amazing to hear, I lived in WA for nigh on 8 years and used to go here most weekends in the spring/summer. My bro still lives in Perth hills and I try to visit him most Christmases (except this one for obvious reasons). Love this spot - that's my niece in the vid. I also came face to face with a large shark here one Christmas... it triggered 3 helicopters inc. the news crew.
Thanks for positive comment Tim, I know that area at Cott south beach pretty well, and I've seen crays there too (a little bit further out though) but I'm not familiar with Rotto at all.
Hi. Every time I try to go out for a snorkel or paddle board the weather just doesnt seem to like me! It is always way too windy or swelly. I've tried to look up what to look for when planning on going out but haven't had any luck! What sorts of conditions do you look for to get such nice weather?
Hi Lisa, good question ! it does look idyllic in the vid. I'd say that the morning is absolutely the best time for snorkelling (the earlier the better). I visited this spot regularly over 7 years, mainly in the spring/summer months (late Oct - April) and more or less I'd find it glassy and calm. Forget the afternoons! ALWAYS at 11:30-12;00 the wind starts to kick in and by 1:00 it's horrible with really murky conditions kicked up by all the disturbed sand. If there's an easterly blowing from the hills it usually holds up any swell, but I wouldn't let an easterly wind get in the way of a snorkel. I've seen SUP's at that beach in all conditions too. I'm visiting again this Dec, can't wait !
@@berneybao8677 good question... I attach the GoPro to a small croc clip then clip the whole thing to a part of the reef and then frame the shot. WIll be heading to this very spot in a week or so!
@@berneybao8677 If you see a blonde haired bearded Pom in snorkelling gear at that spot in a couple of weeks say hello ! it'll probably be me with my GoPro's
Good on ya ! what's not to love about snorkelling ? keep it up. I use Final Cut Pro X, I've just posted another snork/beach vid: Perfect Day in WA which was shot this Jan and before Christmas, check it out..
It makes it all worthwhile when I get comments like that Steve, thanks. Having a love of the subject is important to me, I hope that comes out in the finished result. I keep returning to this place (Cott reef) will be back this Dec, whoopee.
I see it! I actually live in the UK now but my bro & family still live in WA. The Cott reef beach/rock cove is not really busy in the early morning in my experience, and in the arvo it's too windy to snorkel. Early morning in summer is best! One day I'll be back.
@@MrAndyballard wow what a journey :), I want to snorkel more~ but I could never find anywhere that good. And then this video happened to pop up haha 😅.
Andy, another great video. Hey, this is Kevin Collins, we have talked a few times about Western Australia. I see that you have a drone, I just bought the P3 Advanced and was wondering what case you use when you take it with you when you travel? I'm going to Costa Rica in June and would really love to take it with me. Oh BTW, I followed your advice and did not do any night snorkeling in Western Australia. I did however do lots of dives and was lucky enough to see my first Wobagon Shark and the biggest reef shark I have ever seen. Here is a link my my latest video, I went to Western Australia(Perth to Exmouth and back), Hong Kong and also Bali. ua-cam.com/video/zrat2-b_2Kg/v-deo.html
+Kevin Collins Thanks Kevin, I have a hard case which I bought here in the UK but it's a little too big to take on as carry on in an aeroplane. So I bought a small backpack from Amazon which was about £40. There are a few in that price range on Amazon, but the official DJI one is vastly overpriced as you would expect.
You're too kind, I try and visit this spot every Christmas, it's a v well known beach in Perth, and the funny thing is, it's visited by few people considering it's a stone's throw from the city. Where are you from if I may ask?
Nice video bro. Do you get crayfish here??

Wondering if yous no some good spots over at rotto for some crays in about 3m of water
Cheers

where is the location?
South of Cottesloe groyne, they call it Cott reef marine protection zone.
Hey, noticed how smooth some of the under water videos were, What fps are you using for that? cheers.
Some shots are fixed (i.e. GoPro is mounted to a croc clip anchored to a piece of reef) other shots are 48fps and 'conformed' (slowed) in post.
