I was really apprehensive being a fairly new gardener, but... your carrot seeds ALL germinated 😁👍❤. I watered well, seeded the soil put a layer of perlite over them and cardboard over the top, in a couple weeks I got sprouts!!!!
Ah, that is why I had poor germination rates with my carrots. I heard before about covering the seeds but haven't done it...until now! These really are pro tips! I am going to have to use a container because my weather varies from heavy rain to hot sunlight. Motivated to try again! Thank you for your great tips. Some UA-cam videos aren't as precise and some you get the feeling that it's an infomercial. I will definitely buy seeds from you but not because of a sales pitch! Keep it up!
Thanks for this great instruction! I had good luck with germination by covering my carrot seeds with worm castings. Question : Do the seedlings need to stay moist or should I let them dry out between waterings?
I think I had a good experience with my first container carrots simply because I used the Chantenay seeds you guys sell lol. didn't even know they were a challenging crop, I just chucked them in some seed starting mix and bam.
Is there something different that needs to be done to germinate pellet carrot seeds? I bought some from you, planted them as I normally do carrots and only 2 out of the pack germinated. Half the packet had a light covering of soil and the other half a light covering of vermiculite. Carrot seeds I planted from another company had great germination rate. I'm wondering if I missed a step when planting the pellet carrot seeds.
Great tips. Going to use vermiculite to cover my seeds, why a great idea! Any tips on how to keep aphids away from carrots? They have been an absolute menace for me.
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany it is usually when the carrots are forming. The first sign is I see lots of ants, that when I know the aphid farming has commenced. I find it practically impossible to get rid of them through organic means (water spray, Neem oil/insecticidal spray, squishing) nothing works!
@@GreenLove1 That's an interesting issue which we have only in the summer heat. Try adding compost to your soil to help create lighter, fluffier soil which will allow the carrots to grow faster and help combat the aphids. You can wash them off with a quick jet of water.
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany will do that. Also will use fresh soil that I know does not have any dormant aphids and start anew in my containers in a different part of my garden. Fingers crossed.
Carrots are easy for me here Vancouver BC. Toss seeds and I experiment thiniing them and no big difference So I do not thin em. Hand spread and they work out evey year. Easy vegetable easiest one to grow

Wow! Excellent video! Great job. From central-ish IN.
This is SO helpful. 👍🏼
Great information!
The only time I’ve grown carrots, birds ate all the leaves. 😕 Your enthusiasm in growing carrots just might make me try it again…
Good tips!!
Thanks for the tips. I would love to see a follow up comparison video as to which row if seeds has better germination.
They are germinated and look great! I’ll try and get a follow up video up soon.
Very well explained 👌

Seedlings should stay moist.

Love hearing this! For us in hot, dry weather it can be a little less easy. Happy to hear you got it down!
Thank you for sharing the carrot germinating tips.

Nope. Just keep them moist the whole time. That’s the critical thing. If you cover with row cover that helps tremendously.
is this a good time to start them in San Diego?!
Yes, you. An grown them year round! But the easiest time is now while it’s cool and moist.

How big are your carrot plants when the aphids swarm?

I bought some San Diego seed company carrots and lettuce seeds, I also bought eb stone 420 blend and plant to mix it with some sand
How’s that going?
Yes! I have yet to successfully grow even one carrot! 😔
👍
I thought fresh horse manure was to hot to put in the soil.
