Total agreement about the mani-pedi & massages… I’ve done both & sometimes do 2 massages on a 7 night trip 😋.. I’ve gotten the wife & my oldest an acupuncture treatment too.. they did enjoy it 👍
I decided to have a massage a few cruises ago and it is now a must have. My advice, avoid the upsell on the way out! Elemis products are great but do you really need it?
Wow - really enjoyed this one, and didn't realise that the 'specialists' onboard can be SO junior! I personally quite like getting a haircut on a cruise - it's quite a nice experience in there. However, I also appreciate that it's much easier for a man than a woman!
Lucy… Perfect timing on this video. We on a HAL Konningsdam next month, Feb for 18 days. I booked a massage for wife, and for me a men’s face / haircut. Now I’m scared.. I don’t have much hair for someone to practice on. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Lucy, a few years ago I surprised my wife with a treatment on board She hose a sea weed wrap and found out that she was allergic to something in the treatment and spent 3 days in sick bay with a bill of over $10,000.00 cost. We only do hot stone massages now. It's the best in my opinion
My wife and I were on Utopia last November and we got pedicures and a couples massage and they were both amazing. What I didn’t care for was the upsell of product at the end of the massage.
The doctor was young and from the get go opened with "I just graduated" it was so rocky things were shifting all through the room as he is sticking needles in my face saying "it will help I promise"....it was definitely not the most relaxing experience 😂 I was so afraid the boat was gonna rock and I'd accidentally jab the needle in further. Then they were super pushy to come back for 2 more follow up appointments. One was enough!
Good advice. I recall you spoke about team members practicing with each other and their managers to improve or learn new skills. Also, your tour of the spa is one of my favorites.
I definitely have some things to think about in regard to my nails now. I’m going to be starting my first contract as a bartender with Celebrity in March and I have had acrylic nails for over 20 yrs. I heard crew members can get their nails done in the salon on board but I’m picky about my nails so I’m nervous now 😬. Especially since I would need to get them done every 3 weeks.
OMG Great video! Adding to this list, if it's still a thing. Never get teeth whitening! Had it on Enchantment of the Seas. I had no idea I'd be sitting in a chair for like 3 hours, lips spread open with a bright light on my teeth drooling on myself in the same room as all these beautiful ladies getting treatments! Worst of it was when I got home for the first time in my life I came down with pneumonia. Was bedridden for nearly a month. Pretty sure bacteria got in my lungs. I have a persistent cough to this day years later.
Happy New Year, Lucy. Thank you for your opinion on treatments to get and not get on cruises. We've only had couples Swedish massages on our last 2 cruises and enjoyed them very much. That confirms your opinion as well, in my mind. Keep up the great content, please!
I worked as a gift shop manager on cruise ships, and once dated the Spa manager, and she got me a haircut at a reasonable crew price….it was $30, and TBH it was a poor job. After that, I went into the ports and sought local barber shops, who never charger more than $5 and the quality was a lot better!
Oh my... some pñics are funny but others are terrifying!! those nails, but who... This was a really great video! your advices are so right!! Happy new year 1
You’ve got me worried now Lucy! Got a few long cruises coming up as part of a bigger multi-month trip so I’ll definitely be having a couple of on board haircuts soon. Although hopefully there’s not too much they can mess up with mine!
Lucy, you do NOT need a beauty treatment. Your skin is lovely, your eyes are gorgeous which is part of your beautiful face and intoxicating accent. Your hair is perfect, do not touch anything.
@CruisingAsCrew If the American Revolution had never happened we wouldn't have an ocean between us. Anyway, if you can find time to do a podcast on single cruises. I have sailed with Norwegian 13 times, 10 when I was married and 3 now that I am single. However, it seems Norwegian accommodates solo cruisers as an afterthought. They're always running specials for 70% off for 2nd guest or free airfare etc. I live in NY so neither apply. I have 3 CruiseNext extra credits totaling $750 but are willing to lose them because of Norwegians high prices and their pushing solo cruisers to the back of the bus, any suggestions would help.
For years I've wanted to try this, then I developed an immune sickness and was told "under no circumstance" - whilst having the fish picking at the dead skin may look & feel good, the risk of picking up an infection is real too.
Hey there, I usually stay away from them because fungal infections like damp environments. I don't know the science behind it but, I just don't like the thaught of someone going in before me with manky feet, and me then running the risk of getting something due to going in straight after. Xxx
I had a lip filler done on a cruise ship and was told there would be no down time. This was not the truth. I spent most of the cruise swollen, bruised and in pain!
Happy New Year Lucy, I loved your latest video. How about some advice regarding what to purchases from the shops on board (watches, perfumes and necklaces )
Over the years wife & I have enjoyed a few treatments in the spa, and endured some also. Wife visited the hairdressers on the Ventura, good results, likewise having acrylics on her nails (included the damaged nail which looked perfect afterwards). Then I had accupunture on the same ship, it was fine, just like on land but of course much dearer. Needles were new, just a pity the guy was so difficult to understand. In 2023 I had pedicure/manicure on the Virtuosa, whilst I was happy with the results there was a slight mishaps and a small cut on one of the toe nails - so there was no tip given. Also had excellent Balinese massage, dissapointed I didn't book a longer session. A little pricy but purchased with the aid of an onboard discount offer. Can't remember if I was given paper undies to wear, without exception all my spa treatments on cruises have been very professional, never any suggestions of anything less!
Ahh well this is brilliant. I am thrilled that you have had great experiences in the spa for the most part! Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching! X
I had a disaster of an updo once, but like you said, I wasn't harmed. I just went back to the cabin and redid my hair myself. It was actually pretty funny later.
@@CruisingAsCrew I was looking for just a curly evening look. The hair dresser didn't even comb my hair, he just put it in a row of pony tails down my head. I had short hair at the time. I looked a lot like Pebbles Flintstone from the cartoons!
This is a great question but one I don't have a definitive answer for I'm afraid. Some people love it and some people hate it. It depends on your hair type as to wether it will be good or bad for your hair type. Do some research into whether this treatment will be good for your hair type before getting it done. If you ask the hairdresser onboard, 90% of the time they will talk you into it because they want to make money. Xx
Thanks! Is this something that I could be comfortable getting on a cruise-ship from an unknown stylist, or something - like colour - that I should only get from a known and trusted stylist?
@@pamwolff4459 it should be fine to get from an unknown stylist as long as you have the type of hair that would benefit from keratin (thick, coarse or curly hair). If you have fine or straight hair then keratin is not necessary for that hair type
I do enjoy a good massage on board. Most definitely those where full body is not looked at as something other than total care of ALL of your body. The girls are cool if you’re polite, not overt and tip appropriately.
I asked for a semi permanent in the spa and she pit a permanent on. It was more expensive and she was trying to hit target. So who did your hair while you worked onboard? Lol
Massages can be expensive. Last time I went for one, not on a ship, the girl giggled and wanted to know if I wanted "everything" for $200! Dunno what that was all about ....
Never understood why anyone would allow a non-medical professional to inject them with Botox. If it's been through 3 phases of clinical trials I want to see an MD or PA in front of your name.

Always get a hot stone massage on every cruise. Love it. My wife got two on our last one.

I just came off a Norwegian cruise line had three wonderful massages. They were very expensive, however.
Well I am delighted to hear they were all good! Hopefully you felt they were worth the expense! X

Hi Lucy…we saw a packed Fish Pedicure station at our stop in Costa Maya. What are your thoughts on those?
James Welsh did a whole video about those a few weeks ago. He recommends not to do it.
