You can also save a lot of money by diluting commercial cleaning products. Most of them are so concentrated and you can use much less. If it's liquid, I dilute it with plain tap water. If it's powder or a sheet, I use 1/2 the recommended amount. That way, it lasts twice as long and costs half as much! I also dilute other products such as fruit juice, shampoo, liquid soap, etc...

Very timely video for Earth Day! Buying just one or two pairs of slacks also means you can spend a little more for a higher quality, knowing they will last longer. I have also used a 45+ year-old flat floral bed sheet as a tablecloth.

When my husband and I first got married we bought a very tiny home and in one of the bedrooms of the home was a wringer washer. We purchased the home from an elderly lady who could no longer live on her own and that was the first and only time I have ever seen a wringer washer in person. Quite amazing.

When we actually moved in once she was gone from there I never saw it again so I'm assuming that when it was cleaned out for us to move in it got taken. I didn't know the value of things back then and would not have thought to ask if maybe we could have kept it even as a treasure. We were so young we wouldn't have known anything about that kind of stuff.

Very informative! Some of the incompatible products were new to me. For clothing stains I use Dawn and water in a spray bottle with a gentle brush. Friends give me their empty glass pasta jars so I can pour grease from cooking and not in my drain. I plan to buy a couple pairs of work pants to replace the 2 I've been wearing out. If they are not distinctive, no one will know that I don't have a bunch.

I also love your idea about just putting a plate over another plate and putting it in the refrigerator. I'm kind of torn for sure with which way to go with that. I always reuse my plastic wrap if I absolutely can of course unless it has touched something raw and then of course I throw it away. So I keep a old used paper towel roll from years ago and I just wrap my plastic wrap or when I was using aluminum foil wrap that around it and then I'm able to reuse over and over again. I keep it right near where I do a lot of my cooking and baking so I'm able to grab it quickly.

I save packing materials (paper bags, print-free cardboard, heavy brown paper, etc) to mulch new and existing garden beds. When I want to begin a new bed, I lay these materials over the area and then cover them with an old outdoor rug that rain can go through (i.e. without a rubber backing). Over the next season (or two--this takes time, but it's easier than digging!), the ground will mellow. I do remove all the tape. There is no recycling program where I live, so I recycle these materials myself in my yard and garden; it saves me money and makes the whole process easier. I also use tree leaves to make mulch. It's easy, and it's free. Mainstream gardening has become ridiculously expensive, but it doesn't have to be.
