The singer I do believe is Canadian singer/ songwriter, Paul Janz. He was popular here in Canada in the 1980s. And he does resemble Mick Hucknall, the singer from Simply Red.
I was there for the filming, at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall. I'm in the front row -- with the tanned dress coat. Well, this sure does bring back memories. The best part of doing this shoot was being able to meet Anne. She was a really nice lady -- she sat with everyone; signing autographs for just about everyone there. And oh yes, that really is a fun song!
@@rhymeandreasoning Lots! The video shoot lasted several hours with no break. I clearly remember hearing a girl behind me say to her friend, "ugh...she has NO HIPs!" Anne was thin and totally rocked those '80's leggings! They toned it down a bit in the editing.
I remember back when this was playing on a country station and sounded more like adult contemporary than country but still like this sound better than today's country that all sounds the same and he'll there voices all sound the same. But really miss the decade of 80's country and rock.
Love this album as well. Though many of her older fans at the time were less than impressed, especially with her stylish look, and hair. She writes a bit about it in her memoir. I hope you got to see the documentary that was done on Anne that was released last year. Anne Murray: Full Circle.
I have been a fan of Anne since 1978. I think Anne is a very talented lady with a fabulous voice! She's gracious, and writes thank you notes and has a great se se kf humor!!I Iwish I'd had or, at some point have the opportunity to meet/or talk to her on the phone.
I got to know this song when Hazell Dean covered it in 1988 and I loved Hazell's version. Later on when I found out Anne's the original singer to the song I became a fan of her version as well - a bit different to the Hi-NRG disco version of Hazell's but the rockier sound was quite good as well! Thanks for the upload!
🎵1986 Anne Murrays So g was out , Mmm ! looks like Hazel Dean Not Hazel Dean ,but at the time in 1988/89 you would of thought Stock Aitken Waterman wrote the song , they didn't ,I actually l,oh ! Busted I love both versions 🎵 very catchy & deserving to PWL Formula ,you love or hate , because you drifted in to Garage 🏠 House or Acid House 🏠 👍😁 it's true people moved on 🎵
This shoulda been a big pop hit/anthem for her. They were sure trying to put some rock “edge” on her with this video. Her voice is superb for almost any kind of song, and she looks as pretty as ever (pretty Canadian gym teacher, anyhow). Even seems to move with a bit of appreciable groove, here. But the tempo might have been just a bit too much for her established fan base. It’s too bad because Anne Murray really had the pipes to sing almost anything well. Effortlessly natural, pure singer.
This video is the end of the romance started in the video, "Now and forever". Anne was never HOTTER!!! I'd love to know who the guy is. He's drop dead gorgeous!!!!
Hey there.I posted this video. One of my all time fav videos of Anne's.. I have been wracking my brain trying to remember the guys name who is in the video. During the 80s here in Canada he was a pretty familiar face in commercials and ads, and Canadian television. I have him in an interview on one of my old vhs videos I just have to find that tape, as I have lots..but eventually I will find out his name .. Kirk..Montreal, Canada
A major cross over to pop back in the 1980s, using techno music back then. The man she was singing with, was also in a previous video, titled: Now and forever
This was a really good song for AM and showed her versatility in a big way, but neither this song nor the first single (Now and Forever) were major hits on US or Canadian Pop 100 charts when they were released. Surprising, really, but the updated sound/look did not click with listeners. ‘Now and Forever’ stiffed at No. 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 and this song did not even chart on the Hot 100. Neither song did especially well on the main Canadian Pop 100 chart, either. But ‘Now and Forever’ did crack the US Adult Contemporary Top 30. Looking back I’m surprised these were not much more successful for Anne, because they were given the full MTV-style video treatment and the songs are both very good. I get the impression, though, that Anne’s attempt to crack the MTV market was perceived as a bit of a “square” older performer trying to be “hip.” They made a mistake by taking that attitude, in my opinion. She could easily have transitioned to the pop/rock sounds of the time, given her outstanding voice. If these songs had been big hits, it would have been cool to see her explore a newer sound even further as time went on. Few singers in the 80s or 90s had pipes as good as hers. But then again, a contemporary like Linda Ronstadt was by that same time singing old Nelson Riddle standards. She was getting older and way past the rock ingenue image, so she made a smart nostalgic choice. Eh, Anne had a massive, long career so she didn’t need to hit a home run with every release by that period.
@officeboy34 I totally agree..have always loved this song & the video..was happy when I found her vhs video compilaton on ebay..so I decided to post the videos from it. ..still trying to figure out who the guy is in the video..he was in a couple of Anne's music videos..I know he is Canadian..was a model back in the 80s..saw him in a commercial or two, but can't find the dude on the internet..has bugged me for years... @@stevemoxness2273 Thank you for posting. Hard to find anything on the guy. I remember a commercial he did airing often on tv here in Canada. And I know he did some Canadian tv work, but cannot remember which shows. Cannot even find his IMDB credits. Great looking guy he is.

I agree with the comment that Anne does not have the tough girl reputation. She's more a sweet heart snowbird to her fans and this video doesn't really fit her image. But she can sing anything.
This song did actually chart for Annie, however, they said she was more the rebecca of sunnybrook farm and trying to hard. It wasn't one of her biggest hits and it some what alienated her core country fans. It's funny, she released this song and album just before Hazell Dean did. Both did a great job and here is another little known fact, both Anne and the american release of Hazel were on Columbia records! I joked she and Hazel were lovers lol!
I am still trying to find out. He is in her video for NOW AND FOREVER. I used to see him in commercials and tv shows here in Canada. I cannot remember his name, and it has been bugging me for years.
ONLY today I heard she had the original. I like this & Hazel Dean's.

Anne--the original and best! Unrivaled vocals. Looking fab!
Wow, the original version!
Back when you could be in your late 30s early 40s and still be a star and have a music video
i can now play Anne Murray at any 80s and disco partys i go to
Clubs should totally play this track on 80s nights 🎉
Each time when I see this wonderful video I also look at the male background singer and he reminds me of Simply Red!

Just came across this video. I was there too, all those years ago, it was a fun experience, but tiring jumping up and down for 8 hours!

Anne murray was always with one foot in the pop and another in country music and doing just very fine...one of the best singer of the century.

Anne has an entirely different voice from Miss Dean. Difficult to compare them. I like both, but prefer Anne's alto voice.
*Contralto.
He's back who is he
who,s leaving who
Good song, even though I am a Stock Aitken Waterman fan, I like this production just as much.
Both her and Hazell Dean are vocally strong on this song but for me, Hazell Dean has the edge.
Anne's version leaves Hazell Dean in the dust. Plus, Anne recorded it first.
I prefer the euro version it's cleaner and sticks with one genre
