Investigating our Pereira Heritage in Iva, Savaii, Samoa

An adventure to discover our Pereira roots in Iva, Savaii Samoa with Auntie Lasa Aiono, Ron Pereira and myself.
It all began in 1839 when Antonio Victorino Pereira de Barros landed in Iva, Savaii, Samoa after a turbulent journey across the great seas. An African man of Portuguese descent, he married the local Taupou, Palolo, the village chiefs daughter and they had a son Siosé (Jose) Maria Pereira. This was the moment in time that our heritage took root in the historical Malietoa dynasty
'E iva iai aiga o Malietoa'.
The lineage of Antonio Victorino Pereira de Barros and Tupou Palolo, are the descendants of the original nine families of Malietoa.
