I can't help but think if MVG regains that hunger of yesteryear...they're ALL in trouble as his
innumerable 110+ average performances have looked effortless in the past, and I haven't
seen too many of those from the rest of the top drawer - I still believe he's got another gear
that none of the others have - I sense Luke Humphries is well aware of that.
Not that strange...He's currently not the best, but he believes he's the best when everybody is at their peak form.
@@mr.mickey3757 it's true, when MVG is at his best he's on another level.
You're all making good points but I always think the "A-game discussion" is more of a thought experiment than anything else. Maybe MVGs Peak is higher than that of all the other players but the thing is: We already know what his peak is. We don't know what Humphries' and Littler's peak is yet. They are still developing in my view.
Another point: What's the purpose of the "has the highest A-game" award when you're not playing it? What matters is what actually happens at the oche and in my mind the MVG of past would have said exactly that if some other player had talked about how his A-game can beat anybody. It's (hyperbolic of course) like saying "Well actually I'm the better fighter on my day" after you've been knocked out. What matters is that you've been knocked out.
MVG's dip of consistency persists for quite some time now and so far, there are no signs that it's ending anytime soon. Of course he's confident that it will but that's his personality.
Great interviewer really gets to the nitty gritty and the heart of the situation and van the man as honest as ever never ducks a question or a challenge love that about him

the throw change messed him up (caused by the injury) and the change of darts 4 or 5 years ago was the beginning of the issues. When he swtiched back to his old ones his confidence was gone. Now hes changing darts again, ironically, he needs Phil Taylor in a Apollo Creed type role to get him back to his best with the changes he has done.

When they are all at their top level, MVG is the best but he isn't producing it often enough and hasn't for several years now.
The best he has played in years was the 2023 WC when he bullied the wet van den bergh and smashed dobey all over the oche.
Then he met lardarse smith in the final, threw the kitchen sink at him then smith threw the sink back 10 times harder and went “what you gonna do about it.”
