Your testimonial is what a lot of people need to hear. Relocation is a way of living, good planning allows you to win your life back and for your money to go further. We love having you here and you have certainly become family. We now need to focus into getting you inside your amazing home 🙏
Our experience moving here has exceeded our expectations. We never imagined we could move halfway around the world and meet such amazing people. Sometimes you just need to have faith and take the leap. Everyone needs to know that there are people here to help them - that they won’t have to do it alone. Thank you and Salento With Love for making our move possible we couldn’t have done it without you!
I have enough equity in my home that I can do this, and have the ability to work remotely but I have two sticking items that keep me from making the leap: 1. I do animal rescue and have as many as 20 animals at any given time. Curious how I would get so many animals there. 2. I have panic disorder and wonder what would happen without the support system I have here. Conversely I can't afford health insurance in the U.S. so I suppose there could be a positive trade-off concerning my panic disorder.
So sad about the way things have become in the US especially healthcare. This is a Crime against the working class really. I'm just retired at 67 and I've been struggling for decades to keep my wife and myself protected with Health care. My working career was from 1973 to 2023..Construction trade and then engineering. I should be well set and have no worries but no, The medicare and the real estate taxes are just going to keep us treading water. My wife and I are seriously considering a move like yours. but you guys are a bit younger and perhaps more resilient and could maybe recover from a life changing adventure if it had gone wrong. So Bravo for the leap of faith but we will need to make careful, precision moves if at all. Thank you for the video!
Hi theeardrafter! I recommend going for a visit! Life is too short to sit by and wait- take a trip and see how you like it! You are permitted to stay in Italy for 90 days- twice a year with no visa. This is definitely enough time to see how you fit in and if it would be a good move for you. Remember you are not alone- we have so many friends that are your age who just picked up and moved- sight unseen! Travel insurance policies are so reasonable. I recommend going to Italy in the spring- April May is beautiful and the summer is amazing if you like warm weather and the beach! Good luck!!!
Hi Jake! When we return we plan on doing more traveling- we were very busy with contractors and getting the properties completed that we did not have a lot of time to go out exploring! We will be taking our road bikes with us when we do! Thank you so much for sharing!
Just stumbled upon your video. I'm in Florida helping aging parents but have been really considering moving to Italy. I've been following Dauvo's channel. I grew up in Florida but things have really gotten expensive! I've been looking at Calabria with Chris's Super Savvy Traveler's and Sicily but will see how you guys do. It takes a great leap of faith to buy sight unseen. All the best!
Hi Peter! I would definitely recommend visiting the areas before you purchase remotely. We chose this area because it most reminds us of Florida. With the exception of the climate (it gets a little cooler for longer here than Florida -but not freezing) the appearance here is close to Florida, palm trees and lots of beaches and mostly flat land so it is really easy to get around without having to reroute around mountains. You are about 20 minutes from either side here with lots of winemaking, beaches, restaurants, and masserias that make cheese- plus lots of other things to do here. It's colder up there in the winter and they just can't compare in the historical building department. We are definitely happy we chose this area but everyone has different likes. Thanks for sharing! Good luck with your plans!
Check out Puglia before you decide it is known as the “Florence of the south.” We are currently renting near Naples and it is nice but Puglia is way more affordable, laid back and absolutely beautiful . Don’t buy site unseen, you can get lucky but there are plenty of homes to choose from with towns very close to each other and easily accessible. Calabria is full of seasonal condos .
I am getting recognized on Wed. the 29th (NOV.) My wife and I are considering the EXACT same thing you guys did. SOuthern Italy (probably rent before buying however).
Hi! I recommend looking around and getting a feel for the different towns- it seems silly but it is true. We are so lucky Salento With Love chose Galatina for us because it is perfect. Congratulations on your citizenship today!
Greetings from San Diego...been watching your videos...great house! Congratulations!! We also bought "sight unseen" two years ago in the Molise region. We go back a few times a year to work on the home. Looking forward to retiring soon like both of you. Enjoy yourselves!!!!
Hi Americans! Thank you so much for watching. You are very brave! We have been very lucky with our purchase here. The availability of contractors and having Salento with Love coordinate all of it is not something that you find easily here as a foreigner. I hope you retire sooner than later! Take care!
Don’t hesitate , best decision ever! You’ll absolutely love life in Italy, especially in the south which is “ the heart of Italy”. I would only consider going north if your seeking employment.
Just found your channel today. We, too, retired this past year in Italy from Florida. Just loving it! Look forward to seeing the rest of your renovations!
Hi Chris! I think we’re going to be seeing a wave soon! The high cost of living in Florida for retirees combined now with the impending insurance crisis would leave most of them unable to live in comfort as they were used to. I’m glad you’re enjoying your retirement- you made a good choice! Take care!
A big hello from Australia, enjoy your early retirement, Salento looks like a beautiful town. I have been following Salento with love, you have chosen well ENJOY 😊
Very nice video. We briefly met at a dinner back in May when we looked at our potential house in Galatina. Hopefully we will be back in Oct/Nov. when the purchase will be completed. Look forward to meeting you soon.
Hi Carmela! I am terrible with names but I am sure I would remember your face and meeting 😊 weather is nice now not cold not hot - perfect! We will be here! Have a safe trip!
Hi Margo! It has gone beyond a point of healthcare- it has become a business and the only ones who are benefitting are the insurance companies! Thanks so much for watching!
Hi this is my first time seeing you both I watch a lot of Italian property UA-cam I'm also from USA Olympia Washington ✌️ your house is absolutely gorgeous I love it you will love being there so much better than the US I really what to go to Portugal! Anyway you have children,? If so they stayed in Florida? So glad I found your channel 👋👍🙂
I’m so glad I found your channel! Thanks for this great information. My husband and I plan to move to Italy in 3 years. His mom and dad were born in Italy. We are going to start the immigration process this year. I’m half Italian, but may get my immigration as a spouse, since my mom was born in the states so a bit more distant heritage. I agree, health care is a big determining factor, plus an adventure!
Hi Dorina! If his parents did not renounce their citizenship while immigrating then he is eligible. I know that mid-century they were naturalizing on the ships- after that they had agreements with the US that Italians and Americans can hold dual citizenship. If you apply on your own you would not have to take the language test. I tried to find my great grandfathers' birth record but could not-since the late 1800's there have been many wars and natural disasters that destroyed the records here so I missed out. It will not matter as long as her parents did not naturalize before she was born. I hope this helps! Thanks again for watching!
We love finding your Chanel. You guys did what we are starting to do now. We have been watching Salento with love and like Davide for a few months. How was the process. We are going to Lecce anyways to see the areas we are looking to buy. But we are thinking of hiring Davide for the process. How was it for you guys? Was it expensive? Davide’s fees? Thanks for all the valuable info.
Hi rocioastengo! Sorry for the late reply! Process was good it is not a short one but in the end it is definitely worth it. We would not have been able to do this without them- it is very different hiring contractors here. Unless you are fluent in Italian and know someone personally that will recommend someone you need the middle guy to negotiate and guarantee that the contractors will do the work that was promised. I hope this helps! Good Luck!
Hello, we did hire Salento with Love . Davide is great he already went to inspect one house for us, we deal with Anna Maria the most. We went to their office in Galatone and met Totti . They are great. Love Puglia and congratulations on your property it turned out beautiful. Thanks for your reply
Hi Larry! We are in Galatina. The house we chose is in the renovation videos on the channel. Properties vary greatly from one to another. It would depend on what town you end up buying in and what you want in a property. We have friends that have spent 50k and some who spent 300k+. Obviously if you don’t want a huge property it will be on the lower end - depending on how much time you want to spend there and how much you want to do to it. We are planning on making this our primary residence so we wanted to make it as comfortable for us all year round. Thanks for watching I’ll have more update videos soon!
Just found your video. My husband and I also moved from Florida in 2021. We also moved to South Italy it is way cheaper. The U.S. is crazy out of wack expensive. Nobody will be able to retire in the future and we are fine living off of just S.S. benefits. We’re near Naples but have visited Puglia to look around because we’re still renting while we decide where to settle. The people are fantastic and we would never consider returning. What town did you settle in?
Hi Pietro! We are in Galatina and we love it! Close to beaches for summer and near Lecce when we would like to visit a city. We just returned from Tampa Fl for the holidays and couldn't believe what we saw. Everything is so expensive and the quality of food is just minimal. Italians would never eat the food they sell in US supermarkets. When you visit let us know we have a large (and growing!) group of expats from all over world settling here. It helps when you know people and become part of a community. Good luck!!
We are near Naples right now but this is too crazy for retirement! Left stress and Chaos behind for a reason……. nice people , good food but thats Italy all over. Def checking out Puglia very soon.
I have enough equity in my home that I can do this but I have two sticking items that keep me from making the leap: 1. I do animal rescue and have as many as 20 animals at any given time. Curious how I would get so many animals there. 2. I have panic disorder and wonder what would happen without the support system I have here.
Hi D. Mills. You would have to transport them. If you are seriously considering relocating I would try to get an estimate on what that would be since it could be quite costly depending on the sizes of the animals. There are many doctors in this area but not many speak English so that may be an issue for you.
Congratulations on the move. I've been watching Salento with Love channel for a bit and they do make things seem easy but I've always been really curious about the cost of the process (purchase, renovation, Salento with Love fees). Are you comfortable or willing to make a video detailing that type of info?
Hi DJ! Our property really did not need much renovation- it was being lived in when we purchased it. We could have just painted and updated the kitchen and bathrooms with a facelift and lived in. Every property is completely different and needs different things. If you’re serious about getting property here you should visit and see properties and what each individual property would need. Thank you for watching !!
Hi Nina! We used Davide with Salento with Love salentowithlove.com . We would not have been able to do any of this without him and his team! Thanks for your question!!
Hi Christopher! No when we brought Elsa over she needed to have an International Health Certificate provided by our local veterinarian who filled it out and filed it electronically with USDA. If you are considering bringing a pet if they are small enough to be brought in the hold of the airplane and are not a prohibited breed then you can arrange immediately before you leave to have the certificates done. I would suggest checking with the airline and then with the USDA website to see what you need. Good Luck!!
Hi Stephanie! I am not sure what the interest rates are here. I know that there are a few Italian banks that will lend to expats. Are you in the US? US banks generally will not lend to purchase international property so you must use an Italian bank. Thank you for your questions!
@@salvesalento Thank you. I am in the US, I am just getting sick of the hectic pace of life, the high crime, and everything is so expensive. I am looking at my options, there has to be a better place out there.
Stephanie you are not alone! It is amazing that places like this still exist! Groceries are fresh and so inexpensive, no expensive insurance policies, nice people, no traffic or crowds- I could go on all day. Also no crime here like in the US which is still not easy for us to get used to being from New York. The world is a big place don’t be afraid to find somewhere you can enjoy your life!
My wife and I want to move to Italy in 3 years. I just need to find a job to have more money than just my Army retirement and disability. I noticed that the coffee in Spain does not give me heartburn like all the coffees I had tried in the US. Do you have any idea why that is? I think Lavazza is the same. The eggs I ate in Spain that you buy in any store are much better quality than what they have here in the states.
Hi Carnivore thanks for watching! You may be surprised that your Army retirement may be enough to live here in Salento. It is extremely reasonable to live and the coffee I promise won’t give you heartburn. We drink coffee all day and haven’t had an issue ☕️. The food quality in general is scores above the US. Food is extremely fresh and you really need to shop for the day and the next at most. Italians wouldn’t accept anything that isn’t fresh. Food costs here are very low compared to the US also plus they don’t put junk in like the US they aren’t allowed. We will have more videos on the costs of living here soon! Take care!
Love this video, thanks for posting! I have a couple of questions How much was your house? and approx. sq. footage? So what do you figure is your monthly expenditure approx.? My parents are Italian and I have been back there a few times, you know how the Italians or in fact Europeans all see to drive as if thou they're in a race car. LOL I personally wouldn't feel safe riding my bike! Are the roads narrow and there's no bike lanes or bike paths. I would love to bike to the beach and back but aren't you fighting off the crazy drivers? My parents are from a small town called Montescaglioso near Matera where they made the Mel Gibson movie passion of Christ. Also my wife and I are Canadians, I come from Italian parents probably easier for me to get a dual citizenship, not sure what the process is for my spouse? What age are you guys? And do you guys have kids (Adult kids) How's that going with them, with you guys moving to Italy? Looking forward to retiring at the end of this year and beginning our travel adventure, and who knows moving to or at least buying a place for the winter in Italy! Thanks for answer any or all of the questions - grazie a tutti
Hi Tony! OK- Riding here in Salento has been great. Since the towns are not overpopulated the roads are not crowded- and the drivers are courteous to cyclists. If your parents were born in Italy and they did not renounce their citizenship you need to make sure they are eligible to pass citizenship on to you. Your wife is allowed to remain in italy on the Permesso di Soggiorno with you and can take the B1 exam and become a citizen herself after you. We are late 40's early 50's and have 2 adult children who love it here when they are able to visit. If you are interested in costs here you should contact Davide with Salento with Love- every property is different and costs are different. There are properties for everyone depending on your budget. They would be best to ask. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Riccardo! Yes we had an old grandfathered in policy in Florida that was for a family and when we started that policy it was only 350/month but over the years it grew to 1500/mo and would have kept rising. We would have never been able to retire and stay until we would be eligible for Medicare. Buying a private policy without having an employer pay now is astronomical. Without any increases we would have paid over 270,000 for insurance alone. You’re forced to work for healthcare in the US so retiring early isn’t an option. Coverage here is 380/year and if you needed to pay out of pocket it doesn’t cost much - maybe 50-100 dollars for a specialist visit. Italy is 2nd in the world for healthcare and many people we know have had to use it and were treated extremely well. Thanks for commenting!
Healthcare? I thought Obamadontcare took care of that. The more you look into it - it seems like the US has become just a series of rackets. I subscribed to your channel - so informative .
Great video. Thanks for showing all these details. Just a reminder about how messed up and expensive healthcare’ is in the USA. Originally the Obama administration proposed the exact system you moved to Italy for. It was called ‘universal healthcare. Unfortunately 5 idiot democrats voted it down along with every Republican voting it down. Otherwise we would have universal healthcare in the USA - just like Italy, Germany, and Portugal and France. I’m from Portugal by the way and live in the USA. Also saw your finished renovation and tou did a beautiful design and job. Well done guys!
Hi c! It has gotten much worse since we made that video- we must have a crystal ball or something because we couldn't have planned it better. We have the healthcare here and it isn't bad at all- mostly for emergencies. We can afford to pay to go to the doctor here if we dont want to wait which you could never do in the US- it would be way too expensive.
Hi deceiver! Florida used to be a very reasonable place to live. Because of the average age of the residents and the insurance fraud that is widespread across Florida it is now not affordable at all. People who are born in Florida and have grown up there most likely wouldn't be able to afford a home as nice as what they grew up in- so more people will be leaving. Insurance costs are astronomical and now after this last hurricane Ian I don't want to think about how high they will go! Food in Florida is extremely expensive and honestly not worth it. We have such a high standard for food here in Italy the US could never have. Florida would not be somewhere I would choose to live again- or anywhere in the US for that matter! Thanks for watching!
I have to disagree this time!! Don't say that Italy is so cool because if Americans know it arrive all togheter and then we don't where to place them. 🤣🤣🤣
@@salvesalento Thank you both. I am looking at language schools in Italy, 2-3 weeks course with privet boarding. Listed my condo for sale. 1 step at a time.

How did you purchase the home-did you use a realtor?
Hi Nina! We used Davide with Salento with Love salentowithlove.com . We would not have been able to do any of this without him and his team! Thanks for your question!!
Great content!! My daughter’s say you look like Britney Spears !!
Ciao Lorenzo!!
Ciao Lorenzo! Wow =Britney! I don't know about that but I wouldn't mind a few days of her royalties! Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Did you have to go through a quarantine process with the dogs?
Hi Christopher! No when we brought Elsa over she needed to have an International Health Certificate provided by our local veterinarian who filled it out and filed it electronically with USDA. If you are considering bringing a pet if they are small enough to be brought in the hold of the airplane and are not a prohibited breed then you can arrange immediately before you leave to have the certificates done. I would suggest checking with the airline and then with the USDA website to see what you need. Good Luck!!
What about the intrest rate for buying a home?
I have a couple of questions
How much was your house? and approx. sq.
Hi Tony! OK-
Riding here in Salento has been great.
18.000 per year for health care???
Thank you so much pacwest I appreciate the positive feedback!
How about some cycling vids
On USVI right now will post some cycling vids from here thank you!
oooohhhhhh
Wait DeSantis said everyone is moving Florida cause its so cheap! Huh?
Hi Ale! They said that about Florida and everyone moved there! There’s plenty of room for the Americans! Thanks so much for watching!
Find me an italian wife please. I need to get out of this country.
Hi Omar! Learn a little Italian and come over in the summer. You won't have a problem i'm sure. Good luck!
@@salvesalento Thank you both. I am looking at language schools in Italy, 2-3 weeks course with privet boarding. Listed my condo for sale. 1 step at a time.
You are very brave Omar! You’ll love it I’m sure - good luck!!
