The way Vic Elford elegantly and calm discusses the most outrageous test of man and machine in history is just beautiful. It is this inherent contradiction yet combination which makes it addictive to me. And the sight of those wonderful creations with race marks on them, barely holding up ... blablabla :) ... Thankyou.
David Yorke made a bad call that robbed Hailwood/Hobbs the victory, then Elford was way in the lead in the 917L and it failed at the end which resulted in the Ickx/Hermann battle.
Hobbs tells of this LeMans where the tire supplier took care of balancing the wheels. In GT-40s the balance weights needed to be on the outside of the wheel because of tight clearances on the inside. Hobbs had a wheel with an inside weight that damaged part of a caliper, forcing a lengthy repair.
Still wrong this was 1969, just because you saw 917 and McQueen doesn't mean it's '70 this was 1969 as you can see there's a Ford GT40, do you think there's a GT40 in Lémans 1970? Go Search.
