Holy Crap this is pure GOLD To bad no 2nd half Very clean recording for VCR technology. What a physical and brutal game that was so much more entertaining. Today's generation will never know what it was like to see these guys play with all that heart and leave it all on the field. Not for the money so much as the Love of the Game. I was so lucky to have grown up with this team. Really took it for granted back then
This victory was significant and symbolic for multiple reasons. One, this was the Giants' first playoff victory in the state of New Jersey and their first home playoff victory since 1963. Two, it was the first time the Giants beat Joe Montana. Three, it was a sign that the Giants were on the cusp of reaching the Super Bowl level. It turned out that the Giants were only a year away from winning the Super Bowl.
There’s just something about hearing Pat Summerall say Lionel Manuel’s name. It’s the soundtrack of my childhood. Spending Sundays with my dad and hearing Summerall say Manuel in motion...
the giants are the only team in the nfl to have a winning record against joe montana and tom brady led teams in the post season. giants sure know how to beat the great ones when it matters
Joe Montana was 6-2 against the Giants during the reg season and 2-3 in the playoffs. Would be 3-2 in playoffs if he didn't get injured in the 90 NFC Championship..

Walsh was notorious for lying about the headphones on the Niners side not working. NFL rules are that if the phones don’t work on one side the other side can’t use his phones, even if they’re working. Walsh tried it two years in a row and Parcells threatened him.
Impressive by the grounds crew to have Giants Stadium looking like the actual GIANTS after the Jets played the day before with their logo and colors in the end zones.
Ken Gelman well thanks for all your hard work and effort. I know there's a bunch of us out here that really appreciate it. Excellent quality too man. Must've been a hell of a game to see live, place was rockin.
@18:57.......a 'Band Of Brothers' play. How many plays do you see the defense is both working collectively as one and sharing the same heartbeat? At around the 13:39 minute mark,, some background behind the "phones to the coaching box going out". Turns out it was "gamesmanship" by the 49ers, who scripted their plays at the beginning of the game (and thus were not affected by that loss of communication). ua-cam.com/video/xuXSg8nvSdM/v-deo.html
Well...scrap that. I just tried uploading the entire game as one file and it got rejected. Something in that 2nd half that UA-cam does not like. It keeps getting flagged as a copyright violation. Very frustrating...
lt is the goat he made sure montaona didnt win the superbowl that year. i think montona would have defeated the bears in the nfc championship and destroyed new england in the superbowl, back in 85 the nfl and the refs werent helping new england. lol
Garry Martinez I was just talking to my boy about this. This is why I still say Joe Montana is the best quarterback ever and Bill Walsh is the best coach ever because in the early to mid 80 it seemed like the league didn't want them to win much, I seen alot of the old games like this one and they didn't like the niners lol
You can't even spell Montana correctly and yet you're talking about what you think would have happened. The bottom line is, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! The 49ers lost, the Bears beat the Giants and Rams and destroyed the Patriots in Super Bowl XX! That's not what I think would've happened. That is what happened! And your delusional, fantasy will never come to pass!
@@jzagami37 Except for Dan Marino and the Dolphins on Monday Night, and it was a beating too. Bears ended up 15-1 instead of perfect. Niners a year before ended up 15-1 losing to the Steelers on a PI call. Either way, it doesn't matter if you're perfect by going 16-0 like the Patriots and lose the Superbowl. Most memorable play on Bears superbowl was the Fridge William Perry destroying a Patriots linebacker in the endzone, while the great Walter Payton watches and goes back to the sidelines not congratulating WIlliam Perry lol.
So... 49ers had no Eric Wright, Giants home field advantage was evident, phones go out?, mystery offsides call on SF defense when Niners had them pinned deep, no calls on late hits On Montana and Rice out of bounds, Jim Burt after whistle no call, plus Walsh one bad coaching game, not running enough, Clark concussed, and Simms totally owes Bavarro for a great catch on a horribly thrown pass to a wide open man.

What a treat to hear Pat and John. Old style football without all the BS celebrations for a tackle or a yard gained.
49ers-Giants was a terrific playoff rivalry! Had some of the best games over the years!

thank you for posting this video! This brings back a ton of memories for me!
Some of the greatest Giants post-season games have been against the 49ers. Classic stuff
Some of the greatest in NFL history
There’s just something about hearing Pat Summerall say Lionel Manuel’s name. It’s the soundtrack of my childhood. Spending Sundays with my dad and hearing Summerall say Manuel in motion...
Pat Summerall & John Madden are the greatest NFL announcing duo ever and guess what the conversation ends right there
I don't disagree.
Enberg and Olson were way better than these stuttering old fools.
@@zeefly226 Enberg & Olsen are the number 1 partnership for the NFL on NBC broadcast in the 80s are a close second to them

lawrence taylor is the reason why montaona didnt win the superobowl in 85 season

The 1986 Championship is supposedly available on DVDs, not on Itunes unfortunatelly, but this game... Its not available anywhere...
When NFL was actually awesome.
Oh, hell yes! Thanks for posting Ken!
Before Gronk and Tony Gonzalez, there was Mark Bavaro. 49:40
Tougher than Gronk Bavaro played with a broken jaw
The consensus around the NFL was that Bavaro was the best blocking tight end to enter the NFL in twenty years.
I miss the 80's Big Blue Wrecking Crew when they basically beat the hell out of opposing offenses.
Amen! It was such a pleasure to watch. One of the best LB corps ever.
Giants have the best all time roster of linebackers in NFL history
I was at this game. Thanks for posting. I hope you can get the 2nd half posted soon.
Thanks Larry. Unfortunately it's not looking good. UA-cam will not allow me to post the 2nd half for some reason. I will keep trying though.

Walsh didn't try it the second year. Parcells warned him beforehand that he'd expose him if he tried it again.

Bill Belichick taking on Bill Walsh. What a matchup

Beautiful footage
Thanks Justin. Wish UA-cam would allow me to post the second half but it keeps getting rejected. : (

The game where Parcells supposes Walsh intentionally killed his own phones so the Giants would have to do the same. Cool to watch, thanks!

Somebody has to have the second half of this game how is there a first-half and not a second-half I never understood that
If Jim McMahon was healthy in '86, the Bears repeat. No one could beat that team.
Part 2?
What about the second half of the game? Isn’t it available?
I like how the Giants get blanked at Soldier Field the following week.
Can anyone explain to me why some games are blocked, it really doesn't make any sense to block some, while others can be watched
If and when you find the answer please pass along. Thanks.
Where's Part 2 at, Ken?
