James Oldfield The Happening was about as intentional as The Room. Tommy Wiseau has also gone on record saying The Room was always meant to be a comedy, it's just a tactic to try to save the movie from ridicule. And AE is definitely hilarious when you really pay attention to the dialogue, just the weird made up accents in general, but especially stuff like "This is UHHHHth," and the evil menace "The UHHHHSAAAHHH"
James Oldfield Yeah, he said that DAYS before it came out, meaning critics had already seen it and he'd already seen how it was being perceived. It definitely wasn't intentional, because all the same writing, acting, and general awfulness of The Happening carried over to AE and Last Airbender.
a vowel... yes... "H" is not a vowel... you can look these things up if you're too stupid to find out with your brain... :) (a, e i, o, u, sometimes y) = what we learned in first grade
JasonMalizia well, first of all excuse for not having English as my first language, but nevertheless I believe that ''an'' can be sometimes used when the next word starts with h. Not even saying that ''an hiliarocity'' is correct anymore, just saying that it could be possible. We say half AN Hour, dont we?

I honestly this had a really interesting premise and had a lot of potential, but Shamaladingalingdon really, REALLY fell flat with it. It was horribly miscast. Will Smith is just not meant for the character he played, and Jayden Smith is incredibly painful to watch on screen.
It's not an awful movie? Well... I respect your opinion - but the movie is so stupid it's hilarious to me, so it's kinda funny to see someone not think that. :P
Mihai Dragomir Ah, so he is blinded by a strong bias. Alright. Well... if this and Last Airbender didn't help him wake up from the delusion, I guess nothing will. :P lol
kurvos i still think that if m.night would stop being such an egomaniac and and would do a indie movie where produces wouldnt go against him , he could make a good movie :3
At lunch in school: Me: Who here hates After Earth? Everyone: ME!! That one kid: I actually liked it. Everyone (including me): WHY!! The kid: come to think of it......
I don't know why nobody likes it, i really liked it. I think it's even better than The Lady In The Water, and was almost as good as The Happening, which i also liked. I mean, it's not a masterpiece like his first movies, but it's a great blockbuster movie. And Shyamalan's directing is so great. At first i was like "ehh, he's gonna fight with animals, run through woods and stuff...', but when i saw it, it feels amazing actually. I love Shyamalan for his ability to turn usual scenes with nothing extraordinary to something very very beautiful.
richard doyle i don't need some prick to explain the movie to me. I watched it myself and understood it. Too bad, y'all people are too narrow-minded to understand Shyamaln's mind. Think he should've better go and make independent movies, so he woudn't have to deal with all these Avengers and Fast & Furious audiences.
oh god no, look the plot is good (well sort of it was very boring but the trailer made the plot look good and interesting) but the acting i thought was terrible, but i don't find it all to be the actors part because jayden, this is like his second movie ever, so if he did a bad job why would they keep the footage? why not try it again? well who directed it? YEP and with will smith, he is a guy that is energetic and is usually in comedies so he would not be good at playing a character who is emotionless, why cast them? oh yeah for jayden trying to start his career , well then they should of made a comedy to start his career that way the movie would be better than if a guy who is a person that does a lot of comedies and is a goofy guy in real life plays a character who has NO EMOTIONS NO SENSE OF HUMOR NO LOVE THATS NOT EVEN SAYING THATS PART OF HIS CHARACTER THAT IS LIKE SAYING HE HAS NO CHARACTER and you may be like well that is what his character is supposed to be like, well the acting for a character like that should NOT be played by will smith so the acting was terrible now prove me wrong
It sucked Stuckman. It sucked balls! If Jaden was replaced by a fish it would have been a better movie.Yes, a fish. A dead fish. And he wasn't the worst part of it either. Who thought it was a good idea that the charismatic Will Smith should play a cardboard piece of shit? Stop defending Shamalayalamaballs. He made a fucked up movie even worse. The man turns every thing he touches into shit. No way I will ever go see anything he makes ever again!
+Cinqmil Glad i'm not the only one that thinks he kisses Shamalan's a**. Sorry he tries to defind him while reading everything about the movie (books that the movie is based on it etc.) Just to find the slightest Argument to defend his crap. Shamalan hat two good movies sixth sense and unbreakable the rest was just going down hill.
+Cinqmil i actually liked the fact that he didn't dog shit this movie as much as others. yeah, the film sucks, but i thought stuckmann brought genuine points
"After Earth" was just ok to me. The premise was not a bad one at all but the movie had a surprising lack of tension and even action. And Will Smith would've been better if he either tried a different accent or dropped it altogether. Jayden Smith was a mixed bag to me.
I saw this movie on Amazon two days ago and have to say that is was much better than what the critics said. It was more about the relationship between a man and his son, and the difficulty in sharing, teaching and explaining things to his son while all along knowing that he (Will) was not often present in his son's life. This emotional tug-a-war was amplified by the fact that the son witnessed a creature kill his sister and he did not act, nor was his father home when he needed him the most.
I just don't get it. I've watched the movie twice, read wikipedia, looked on imdb, and I just do not understand. I really, really liked this movie. I thought Jaden Smith did well and Will Smith was good. I didn't even know that M. Night directed this until after I saw it. I am a big fan of all sorts of films, especially ones that make you think. I am ususally not into 'the blockbuster' but I liked this movie a lot. And as for Nepotism I say why not? Will Smith wanted to make a movie with his son...nothing wrong with that. I am just confused on why everyone hates this movie. I thought the premise was original and detailed. with connecting threads throughout.
You are not alone! I liked the movie too, the relationship father-son was well made, well developed, and the designs and the art in the movie was good too. I can't understand all that hate... C'mon, clearly it's not Citizen Kane, but it's a decent film.
I'm right there with you. I loved After Earth. Will Smith's character was a military leader who learned to control his fear to survive. Of course he's stoic. Of course he doesn't smile. I just don't get it. Great movie. Period.
I honestly don't get the hate for this one, and I don't give Shyamalan a lot of slack when he starts to suck. I think it was way better than the three films preceding it. Yes, it definitely has issues, but I really didn't see anything to get too perturbed about here.
Why didn't anyone's Alarm-Bell go off when they read: Story by Will Smith? I'm avoiding this vanity project like the plague... Thanks for the warning, Chris! Keep on doing what you're doing! You, The Schmoes and Jeremy Jahns ARE the go-to guys for great, fair and reliable reviews!
Hang on! Smith passed Django Unchained (and this was in his own words-I heard the interview) because he didn't like the story. (You don't like Tarantino's Story?) SPOILERS-SPOILERS He wanted Django to be the star. The ONLY star (forget Christoph Waltz's character-or make it VERY VERY small). He wanted Django to be the one to kill Leo's character.Django was too SMALL a role someone of his"star quality". He then gave a sideswipe nod to Jaime Fox.Smith's EGO wouldn't allow him to take the part.
Jaden was awesome in the pursuit of happyness, I hope he''ll improve as an actor. He should have pulled a nicolas cage (change his last name, in order for him to be casted for his "talent" rather than his last name). And Will should ease up on the nepotism a bit, I really like the man, even tough he turned down major roles, but still. However he shouldn't get that much involved with his children's acting career. As for Shymalan, I wish every movie he made was as good as unbreakable.
Chris, you are fanboying over M Night Shyamalan.. If this movie was not his, you would be screaming about how bad it was.. Because it is.. bad.. really.. really.. bad.. the end
A lot of people talking shit on this film didn't watch it before the hate train. I watched it when it first came out and I enjoyed it. People like to nit pick and find inconsistencies rather than have fun and enjoy it.
I thought this movie was basically what fresh hellscape gauntlet of a metaphor of a life for someone who lives under the charismatic shadow cast by Will Smith. In this way, the casting is perfection.
I LOVED THE MOVIE!!! It is a movie that is family friendly with an outstanding message, that you must overcome your fears to survive!!! There were no half naked women or cussing, THANK GOD!!! I loved it, can't wait to buy the DVD!!!
I agree with your grade of "C". To me this movie was, as I describe many bands, "Totally Unoffensive". When I say this it means: "Exactly Okay". Or... "I would describe this as something that did not make me sick." Typically I find that movie characters must have very "Over the Top" personalities to make for a compelling movie experience. However... In my life I have met many extraordinary people that have rather lackluster personalities despite their many amazing accomplishments. As I watched this movie, I just thought of Jaden Smith's character as someone like that. I enjoy your reviews. Please keep up the good work.
I agree it's not the worst movie ever, but it may be the least entertaining movie I've ever seen. Shyamalan has said he works out everything before he starts a project. I don't believe him for this and the Happening. Maybe for the Sixth Sense or Unbreakable and even Lady in the Water (although that's a bad movie), but sort of beginning with Signs he just started to plunge in without a life preserver. I think that's the reason his movies show ever more plot holes and badly put together dialogue.
this film came out 4 or so years ago surely? I'm stuck in a time warp perhaps, this is crazy when you see how old movies are, it really reminds you how fast time goes haha
Strangely enough, I loved this film. I didn't see "Oblivion" (some are making comparisons to both films). There was a curious spiritual quality to it. The story followed through fairly logically and I liked the effects. Favorite character was Zoe Kravitz who played the daughter. She had a pivotal meaning for me in the story. Will's character dealing with grief explained his coldness. Really enjoyed the hell out of it. Too bad so many are knocking it. It's worth giving it a chance.
About half of this video was Chris talking how much he liked Will Smith and Shyamalan and that was not a good sign. Also considered that he apparently believed the "everything wants to kill humans on sight" crap (since nearly all animals in the movie would gave ignored Jaden if he had been smarter) and other shit the movie told us but did not show, I suspect he forces himself to say the movie is mediocre. He tip toes around and comes with this really vague sentences in favor of the movie and Shyamalan and never telling us any scene that he thought was well shot. This guy basically lost his integrity here.
A six minute review that doesn't need to tell the entire story and spoil the plot in order to communicate the essential successes and problems with the movie, its actors and its director? Thumbs up and subscribed!
There, that last part right there when you said something about M. Night Shyamalan was meant to make smaller scale movies, I think the man himself actual watched this video and heed your advice. Thus, we have "The Visit"; Thank God!
I thought this film was good this is the only movie where I don't see why it's that bad. I'm a movie critic myself that likes quality films but this one I don't see why it's that bad.
Chris I love SF so I wanted to love AE. and I was ok with the film. Except for Jaden. No films with Jaden ever, would be good. Hate that kid's "acting". Hate it so bad.
Nothing wrong with making small budget movies if they are quality movies. You need a great story first and then the rest just comes naturally. Its as though MNS has gotten lost in his own fame. He should go back to making 6th Sense type movies. That movie was fantastic. So was Unbreakable. He should just return to his roots and make a decent movie.
After Earth was amazing. I'm glad you honestly reviewed this one. It would have been especially hard when M.Night Tweeted you, and he's so nice. It was amazing tho. Not smith's best. But it was about a 7.5/10? something like that. Will Smith is my favorite actor. So he never fails to impress me. He is soooo lovable and cool. what a icon!
gmu2 I'm the one with bad tastes. Yea okay. Tell me when you get #1 in multiple countries on the radio. Even Miley Cyrus is good. She may have bad style but she is good. 1D, JB, they aren't gay. Their music is up to scratch. Maybe i am a reasonable person that shares what he actually feels about artists. Unlike the other idiots out there who call them "fags" I'm not afraid from what i have to say. basically anyone who makes #1, is great, and are love by millions. You must simply not love music, or hate RNB. The only thing it comes down to.
Hey Chris you need to review the other Shyamalan films you loved, I know you're a fan of The Village, Unbreakable and Sixth Sense, love to here what you have to say towards them
Shyamalan isn't great at creating worlds, and whilst this is not an exception, I think this is merely a vanity project dedicated to introduce Jaden's career as Big Willy 2.0. Great review, Chris!
This film was so bad, I saw it on a plane and people still walked out.

kurvos i still think that if m.night would stop being such an egomaniac and and would do a indie movie where produces wouldnt go against him , he could make a good movie :3
Mihai Dragomir X3 Well, perhaps you are right. I won't say you're wrong.
kurvos it really wasn't that bad...
At lunch in school:
Me: Who here hates After Earth?
Everyone: ME!!
That one kid: I actually liked it.
Everyone (including me): WHY!!
The kid: come to think of it......
***** WHY?
***** Mabye because you like Transformers too?
***** =/
***** There is nothing wrong with liking a movie its just that this movie is really stupid.
***** ok then =)
You are now my "go to guy" when it comes to movie reviews. Cheers Chris!
I'm sorry, this is terrible. A "C" is a bit too generous.
Heidi Shepherd you missheard, it was a Z, though it is still way too generous
Nepotism. Go figure.
/shrug
Will Smith is the type of guy who, if you see him cry, you will cry with him. Because his sadness is contagious.
I dont' care what anyone says! I love the village. It is one of my favorite films that M.N.S. has done.
I love Shyamalan for his ability to turn usual scenes with nothing extraordinary to something very very beautiful.
nope it sucked
richard doyle you're just too stupid to understand it.
watch "yms after earth" and you will under stand
richard doyle i don't need some prick to explain the movie to me.
So, just for a matter of interest, which scenes are supposed to be great?
Chris, I think you were grading this movie on the M. Night Shyamalan curve.
I love the intro with the drums here
i started to watch this movie, and thank god, after the first 20 minutes i stopped and simply watched iron man 3 instead.
Iron Man 3 was the better option? Fuck, then it's gotta be bad cause Iron Man 3 SUCKKKKKKEDDDD.
Cinqmil true this is by far the worst movie ive ever watched.
I always tought a magicarp would be better actor than Jaden S.
+Cinqmil i actually liked the fact that he didn't dog shit this movie as much as others. yeah, the film sucks, but i thought stuckmann brought genuine points
i only upvoting cause this comment is funny af
"After Earth" was just ok to me. The premise was not a bad one at all but the movie had a surprising lack of tension and even action. And Will Smith would've been better if he either tried a different accent or dropped it altogether. Jayden Smith was a mixed bag to me.
the acting sucked but the visual effects were enough to keep you from walking out of the theater (meaning the visuals were still pretty bad)
Everything sucked
I like that you weren't too harsh on this movie like some of the other reviewers. It's a decent one time watch.
I actually like this movie. Very much.
I really like this film as well, I personally love M Night as a director and I often wonder why people don't like his movies.
You need to watch YourMoviesSucks review of after earth, it explain what everything wrong with the movie.
I have seen the review, multiple times actually and I still think its better than The Last Airbender by a mile.
I hated this. I couldn't even sit through this film for 5 minutes
Grow up!! This was an amazing movie
@@GedEmJ yeah uhh maybe you should be the one to grow up because anyone who thinks this is a good movie needs to revisit pre-school
(You don't like Tarantino's Story?)
SPOILERS-SPOILERS
He wanted Django to be the star.
Glad to see you were disappointed too, haha.
I thought this movie was basically what fresh hellscape gauntlet of a metaphor of a life for someone who lives under the charismatic shadow cast by Will Smith. In this way, the casting is perfection.
Have you seen Jaden Smiths tweets there like
Most trees are Blue.
If babies could talk they would be the most intelligent beings on the planet.
How can mirrors be real if our eyes aren't real? Dying is mainstreamed #MONEY.
what a self important brat.
I LOVED THE MOVIE!!! It is a movie that is family friendly with an outstanding message, that you must overcome your fears to survive!!! There were no half naked women or cussing, THANK GOD!!! I loved it, can't wait to buy the DVD!!!
When I watched this movie with a friend and his dad, we all loved it. We thought it was awesome! But I respect your opinion, Chris. Nice review
This movie gets ALOT of unwarranted hate
Was that friend Jaden Smith?
Will Smith stated in an interview with Entertainment Weekly stating that the real twist is its an M. Night Shyamalan movie without a twist.
Will smith is easy to dislike in 2016
do u see the number 11?
I agree with your grade of "C". To me this movie was, as I describe many bands, "Totally Unoffensive". When I say this it means: "Exactly Okay". Or... "I would describe this as something that did not make me sick." Typically I find that movie characters must have very "Over the Top" personalities to make for a compelling movie experience. However... In my life I have met many extraordinary people that have rather lackluster personalities despite their many amazing accomplishments. As I watched this movie, I just thought of Jaden Smith's character as someone like that.
I enjoy your reviews. Please keep up the good work.
this was atroucious, this film is a piece of crap... i hate it even more than The Last Shitbender REALLY!!
for some reason.. i loved village when i watched it.
He said he love Avatar the Last Airbender and was inspired by it.
And then he removed everything that gave the show its identity.
Great review as always, Chris
yea its shit. like... how to get you own son in to the film bussines? :P just like this: After Earth.
this film came out 4 or so years ago surely?
Everyone was too hard on Jaden & AE. I thought it was a great film.
I can't even watch anybody talk about this movie that's how boring it is!
Great review..you have a lot of patience and professionalism to not give it a worse critique
After Birth.
" the guy's really nice...he once replied to me on twitter "....seriously? that's the funniest thing i've heard all week. thanx
YourMovieSucks channel did a much better and more thorough review and you realize it's so fucking bad it's practically worst than Air Bender
Kindred1a1 even a slow painful death is not worse than The Last Airbender. After Earth is bad but not that bad
I dunno man check out the YMS review....it's...it's pretty fucking bad lol
Kindred1a1 I have seen it many times, taht guy is hilarious. But TLA is still worse. Both are 0/10 movies
Hey Chris, cool review. But What would you say is better Oblivion or After Earth? In your opinion
You this shit storm a C? lol you're to nice
There, that last part right there when you said something about M. Night Shyamalan was meant to make smaller scale movies, I think the man himself actual watched this video and heed your advice. Thus, we have "The Visit"; Thank God!
I am using the name Jon Stewart to refer to my favorite Green Lantern. The one that was on the Justice League animated series.
clear favouritism but I'll let you off since this is the first time I personally would give it an 'F' bland acting no emotion no character development
I thought this film was good this is the only movie where I don't see why it's that bad. I'm a movie critic myself that likes quality films but this one I don't see why it's that bad.
By the way, I'm so glad that you're back to UA-cam! Sorry I noticed this late.
Chris I love SF so I wanted to love AE.
and I was ok with the film. Except for Jaden.
No films with Jaden ever, would be good. Hate that kid's "acting". Hate it so bad.
I remember seeing this in theaters when it came out and only 7 people myself included saw it and man this movie was such a big letdown.
Man its great that this film has faded into obscurity
You're so delusional omfg.
Shitty name, even shittier tastes.
gmu2 I'm the one with bad tastes.
Derulo Tattoos Shut up, Derulo. Just because something is number 1 and the majority loves it doesn't make it good.
assassination275 Amen, the more vacuous things are, the more they are enjoyed by vacuous people.
"I wasn't in pain watching this." Damned with faint praise.
Thank you for an honest and telling review Chris, think I might skip this one in theaters though and wait for blu ray
Hey Chris you need to review the other Shyamalan films you loved, I know you're a fan of The Village, Unbreakable and Sixth Sense, love to here what you have to say towards them
Can you please review Ducktales season 1?
Love the channel Chris.
One of the few times I genuinely wanted a refund for my cinema ticket. The trailer for this movie was so misleading..
Shyamalan isn't great at creating worlds, and whilst this is not an exception, I think this is merely a vanity project dedicated to introduce Jaden's career as Big Willy 2.0. Great review, Chris!
can you review some of clints westerns ?
