      I understand that these rideshare launches have had payloads from 20 countries and several hundred individuals. SpaceX is opening space to ordinary people from around the world. This is a phenomenon would never have been possible if we waited for government agencies to get us there. I wonder how long it would take NASA and ESA to round up 20 countries that all agreed on the mission, cost, who does what etc. (not a slap at JWT, just reality).
      This booster has now completed 10 missions in 19 months. This is interesting, because the first 10 launch booster took 36 months to get to ten; the second took about 29 months. Evidence of continuous improvement in turnaround operations. Its also evidence of a work force that is both highly skilled, and more importantly, has bought in to the program.

    Why was Falcon9 able to return to launch site? Was is not as far away from launch after separation ? Or was the pay load lighter so it could carry more fuel or is there any other reason for that?

    • @michaeldeierhoi4096
      @michaeldeierhoi4096 2 роки тому

      The reason why the Falcon 9 booster can return to land at the launch site vs the drone ship is entirely due to the speed that the booster must reach to get the second stage to proper velocity to get its payload into orbit.
      So if a faster speed is used by the booster more fuel is used and then it must land on a drone ship. Slower speed of course less fuel used and the booster can return to the launch site. It saves Space X time and money if it can return to the launch site instead of a drone.

    I ‘still’ have to wonder why NASA couldn’t do this with the ‘many’ trillions of tax dollars spent, over the years?!

      They're a launch provider, not a charity. There are many billions, way more than what's spent on space exploration, being spent on food, housing and healthcare. The fact that SpaceX is reusing rockets not only reduces the cost to put necessary technology into orbit but also saves the taxpayer money when it comes to government launches. Calling this bullshit just shows you're ignorant in this subject.
