Haters will say that some points are in response to drew/bodanza videos. But the outfit and background are the same as last weeks video. So this was preemptive. And its great content

Can you first point out anything within the Drew/Bodanza videos worth copying?

@coachchristaylor3679 I wasn't trying to say there is or isn't moreso that there was a difference in what they the leg does in follow through. (Although I agree with Josh). But thought that others may think it was a response vid based on its timing.

@coachchristaylor3679 there are mixed opinions for sure. I think what you take away from it depends slightly on how you think about the disc golf throw (or if you have much detailed knowledge in general) or if you like either of the persons involved a good bit.
And if you subscribe to front or back leg discussions

I think follow thru is often over looked, but one of the most important parts of the swing. Especially in terms of injury prevention.

I had been struggling with early release and accuracy a lot, playing in New England woods courses like I do, it seriously effects my game. I watched my form and noticed that my arm went down in the follow through, so I went out today and really focused on keeping it up in the follow through, I kept imagining I was backhanding someone or challenging them to a duel. It made a DRAMATIC improvement to my accuracy, and my game. I was really surprised how instantly it fixed my early release problem. Also, I'm not sore or in any pain. I'm almost 40 so everything hurts me now, its a miracle to walk of the course and feel downright fresh.

After playing my first season of disc golf using backhand approach shots, I finally started doing backhand drives on the course this past weekend. I'm a bit staggered by how good my shots were (* good for my skill level). I hate to sound cliche by saying I couldn't have done it without you, but I don't know what else I could say. Thank you for all the instruction, it is greatly appreciated.

@@OverthrowDiscGolf Nah, my forehand is pretty awful and I rarely used it. Backhand approach and thumbers was my core game. I usually restricted myself to shorter courses. I have been dabbling more with forehand from your latest videos, but trying to stick with my plan to refine the backhand first. I'm looking forward to playing more/longer courses in 2024. Great lessons for anyone that wants to improve their disc golf skills. Think I struggle with the grip the most and balance is a big problem. I want to go over my plant foot or I hold back too much, just can't find that middle spot for a good plant.

  • @benjiheywood1108
    @benjiheywood1108 11 місяців тому

A small thought about bracing and follow through - if you've braced well, stopped all your momentum and transferred as much as possible into the throwing motion, then you'll only have your normal standing weight on that front leg by the time you follow through. The pivot should be fine.
Similarly, if your timing/brace is awful and you're running right through the throw, your weight will be in front of the plant foot by the time you pivot on it, so that's safe too.
But if you've semi-braced, mistiming it so that the throw is gone but you're still decelerating hard on that plant foot (with many times your bodyweight going through that leg) then that would be the time you'll see injuries.

Hi!!! Could you address working on new form while still actively trying to enjoy casual rounds IN THE WOODS! I recognize that doing both just may not be compatible BUT my guess is that a high percentage of players, at least on the East Coast, find themselves in this predicament. I'm sure one of the primary reasons I release at 12 instead of 10:30, peak with my head, etc. etc. is because TREES!

Seriously loved this series, josh! I have and will continue to come back often! Also, really enjoying the monthly form reviews. You’ve genuinely had a huge impact on my form and my understanding of DiscGolf mechanics.
I know you said this isn’t a response to drew and Bodanzas videos, but would you consider doing a review of those videos? Or just give your candid thoughts on the main points he was teaching him?
The things that were most confusing/concerning to me were: 1. The active push off of that back leg. And 2. Not releasing until the belt buckle is facing the target.
I understand there are many ways to throw and coach, but it is honestly confusing. Haha
You teach that the hip engagement happens from the front leg bracing, correct? That is what I’ve always done, personally.

The video(s) on aiming and the hit should be interesting. Lot of possibly conflicting information on what the head does during the swing, and I've personally come to the conclusion you want your head as forward as possible (organically, not unnaturally or forced), and to be focused on the hit and directionality of the throw as much as possible. I see too many people, including myself, who keep that head back, somewhat neutral with the spine, but accuracy suffers, because they've lost orientation some during the backswing and swing. But it's also possible to look too much forward, and end up impinging some things. One good way to practice this accuracy would be into a net, from a close distance, and gradually move back.

Hey Joss, I'm so frigging confused about the back leg now. After listening to Drew Gibson on Bondanza's Channel, I just don't know what to do anymore. Are we just pushing off the back leg to transfer weight to front leg, with the back leg deweighting as a result or are we letting the front foot land, then pushing off the back leg into it. So confused!!! Please help? Can you do a video on just the back leg.
