I'm sure whatever is wrong with the front end will be obvious once it's jacked up and can be properly inspected. Frankly it seems pointless to speculate about that. That restart problem has me concerned though; classic symptom of a weak fuel pump if it is suddenly flaking out when immersed in cold fuel. You knocked it out of the park with this car though. That interior alone could justify several thousands in mechanical repairs and still make economic sense. Can't wait for the next vid!
I had a similar issue with my 1991 MBZ 420sel......the bearing came off and the wheel fell off the front left. Had someone fix it....he over tightened the bearing....drove from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The wheel got so hot....when it warmed up the car came to a complete stop without touching the brakes. Steam/smoke was coming out the wheel. Ended up having to replace the spindle because the bearing melted onto the spindle. I don't know why he didn't know not to over tighten the bearings. I have 248,000 miles on it and it is still going. Its been an amazing car. I bought it with 75,000 miles. The transmission lasted to 212,000 miles before I had it rebuilt by a Mercedes Mechanic. Same engine... Its my baby.
❤Deze mercedes is een topper heeft wat aandacht nodig maar daarna kan je hem met dikke winst verkopen hier in Nederland krijg je er dik geld voor 👍👍💸💸Leuke video weer Mike 👍
Engine runs so so quiet and smooth for age of it+ town that you're living is very quiet and peaceful I always wanted to live in place like that without population and car noise . I can clearly say that you're living in heaven sir enjoy it
I have a 560SL and it has a similar hot start issue as yours when you were at the gas station. I swapped the fuel accumulator and it fixed the issue right away.
Love it! To me, the 126 is the most beautiful S class ever build. I can never decide if I like the W126 sedan or the C126 coupé more, they are just each perfect in their own way. With the interior in such good condition, I think this one is definitely worth fixing. And with your low entry price, even if you need to invest quite a bit in the mechanics, you'll still do well overall.
one thing that needs to be done is the alignment immediately. also check all front end parts and the wheel bearings. it does seem like the right front wheel is out of alignment. better to get this done before anything major happens to the car.
Love the car. Good luck with your work on her. Been looking at 560sel. Always fancied one, but they’re pretty hard to find and a good condition (for age) one.
Great video Mike. I would get the front end jacked up off the ground and check for loose ball joints, tye rods, idler arm, sway bar bushings and end links, and wheel bearings. New tires and an alignment are in order too. I think it will be a nice car though. You did well!
It's time for a front suspension/steering inspection! Maybe it's the idler arm, outer tie rod ends, inner tie rod ends, lower ball joint, wheel bearings, front right spindle cracked? Those darn huge fork lift CATS have a way of breaking stuff moving the cars on the lot. IDK Mike, but your expert troubleshooting skill sets will determine exactly what the cause of the front right screaming tire is!!! That MB is in great condition, it just needs some items fixed.
Its a car that should have toe-in, but yours has toe-out! The noise is the tyres literally fighting each other.. Its possible thats why it was at salvage, maybe the previous owner hit a kerb hard & bent a tie rod? Whatever it is, you need to check the steering, & then get an alignment.
Mike you have had just about all the S class generations I remember the black W220 and the burgundy or brown w126 I ABSOLUTELY love the W126 and w140 cars the best
You need to check the camber and toe at a garage that has the hunter machine. Sounds like.tires dragging. Could be other things like wheel bearings or suspension parts.
Probably a bent tie rod end , cheap easy fix will just need a wheel alignment afterwards , maybe from forklift picking it up at auction, or old Walter hit a kerb & bent it 🇦🇺👍😁
Had the same issue with my w140 s420. The ball joints were done. The tires would drag and skip just like this. Inner tires were cupping while trying to drive straight.
Instead of guessing….STOP DRIVING IT! Get a floor Jack under it and grab the wheels. Shake side to side and up and down. Probably a ball joint ready to fall apart!
Had a similar steering issue on a Vauxhall Omega (Cadillac Catera for the Colonialists)... Worn/failed* control arm bushes which cause the arms to move as the car reacts to the road/steering inputs making the geometry constantly variable. Also it looks like the track rods aren't even side to side... Too much toe out on both sides or on one side... Should be very slightly toe in on a rwd car... Coupled with the worn bushes the car will drive like a turd even if it rides ok. Another thing to check as a matter of urgency is that the lock nuts on the track rod adjusters haven't backed off... If they have it will allow the adjusters to self adjust and potentially undo themselves. *The bushes can be trashed if the bolts to the subframe are tightened without the cars weight on the wheels. Given the way the rest of the car looks to have been maintained, it's possibly a stupid oversight rather than something catastrophic... Worst case an overhaul of the control arms and track rods and a decent alignment will see it sorted.
The car needs alignment. That sound is from the tires since one straight and the other slightly off. Possible tie rods. Misalignment cause tires to screech on low speed.
*What's the correct coolant to use?* Yours is green meaning it is organic therefore meant for use with older type Copper and Brass radiotars. Or is yours an aluminum radiator?
I'd be more concerned about the oil pressure dipping so much. I have a 1985 420SEC. hey say you don't want that pressure to fall be "2" on the gauge. When mine is at temp and at idle, it might fluctuate between 2.5 and 3 but never below 2.5. When I'm about 1200 RPM its pegged at 3. Your engine temp reads lower than mine. You won;t lose money at $750...heck the seats are probably worth about that. Other than that, you have some projects ahead of you. good luck and I enjoy the content.
It must be fun (myself never having quite experienced it) to get a car that is supposed to be dead, for practically nothing, and find out all it needed was a $20 part!
Something is definitely off with the wheels maybe a bent tie rod or control arm. I’ve changed tie rods and didn’t even try to align it and wheels sounded just like that. So definitely out of alignment
I've never tried to do a concourse restoration to a sub $1000 sled, all money should be spent on drivability only, its there only job, not to look like a 30-40 year old sled!
The initials on the dash pad make perfect sense now, WAW - Wobbly ass wheels. Still a beautiful car at a great price, definitely worth fixing.
Hahahaha!!😜😜😜
cover license plate cops will pull over.
Thats the sound it makes, right before the lower ball joints pop out of there sockets!
It's the Ghost of Walter grabbing your foot 😂
I think so too!!
@@MonkeyWrenchMike Lol 🤣

The Becker radio alone is worth the money.....or the wheels.

hello
how much for the transmission rebuild?
@@MisterMuslim000 it was a long time ago, but at the time $2,700. and he used all mercedes parts. Its still doing good.
@@lifeofMikeee67 thank you
The Mercedes w126 is a excelent car ...old school of Mercedes Benz....
Absolute beautiful cars it is dangerous that you're driving it in that condition of the wheels.
Got better alignment from a supermarket trolley 🛒 😂 Most probably, Walter needs urgently an alignment and also four new tyres.
Nice car Mike, few bugs to take care of and will be fine.happy motoring.
Engine runs so so quiet and smooth for age of it+ town that you're living is very quiet and peaceful I always wanted to live in place like that without population and car noise . I can clearly say that you're living in heaven sir enjoy it
Like all your stuff buddy
It's still worth it Mike and if anyone can make the car whole again, you can!
Auction must have bent something picking it up to make the wheels squeal . Probably messed the Toe up !
I have a 560SL and it has a similar hot start issue as yours when you were at the gas station. I swapped the fuel accumulator and it fixed the issue right away.
thats a great deal Mike, I love it 👍
Happy Friday Mike !!🙌🏽 ✝️god bless
JUST CHECK ALL THEM FRONT END PARTS IDLE ARM MIGHT BE BAD. BUT DEFINITELY LOOK AT THAT FRONT END
Keep it up Mike we love to see it of your content!
Great job mike on the mercedes restoration

Awesome video Mike 👍 Can't wait for the next repair videos for this nice car .
My old Porsches had those same fuses.. Just roll them and they are good to go~~~ !
Love the car. You will get it fixed and have another great car. Great job Mike and keep up the great videos
The car looked almost round like a football and Mike is telling "I don´t think this is safe".Hilarious.Nice camera :)
Beautiful car! And that Mike, is why you can't fall in love with a Lexus! 😎
Oh yes you can, just give it a chance during those x00 k miles....without oil consumption.
Looking good
I would say you will get it back in shape.
Love the car, good luck with getting it fixed, great buy
Grat video Mike. Fantastic price for this car.❤
You will have it back to it's beatiful self in no time but please don't it to far till you get the wheels fixed.

You got a good deal on the Mercedes Mike 😎😎👍👍
Mike is back with another Benz!
Watching from Brisbane Australia . Mercedes engine has a nice rumble exhaust note . . I love the dash simplicity . Love old Mercedes . 🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘
Thanks for watching!
Love the car. Good luck with your work on her. Been looking at 560sel. Always fancied one, but they’re pretty hard to find and a good condition (for age) one.

Yeah just rebuild the whole front end

As Tom would say, " more junk" 😅
Great video, car and you can make this awesome again😀
I remember my mom having those kind of seat covers in her old VW Bug's 😀
They don't make Benz s like that anymore.great car.good luck.❤
Kindda cool mike, sounds like a burn out baby yeah🤭✌️
Hey there Mike! Love your channel and what you do! Regards your alignment, check your tie rods - looks like one may be bent? Was it forked?👍
That's what I thought... Wheels are literally trying to drive away from each other...
Nice Car 🚙😀
22:44 - I did not know the Stop signs in Oklahoma were optional! lol
Next you need to find an old 6.9 Benz. They were beasts back in the day!
Great video. Is this mbtex?
Leather!
Mike you have had just about all the S class generations I remember the black W220 and the burgundy or brown w126
I ABSOLUTELY love the W126 and w140 cars the best
Your Benz has sooo much power, it squeals the tires all the way to the gas station and back 😁
Alignment must be off also check ball joints
She needs driven after you get the suspension sorted to bring her back around
Hi Mike I think the wheels are out of whack or the Ty rods need fixed
You need to check the camber and toe at a garage that has the hunter machine.
Sounds like.tires dragging.
Could be other things like wheel bearings or suspension parts.
Man....I would love to have this car....
Is that Jeff Dunham's Walter ?
I would check the tires for belts separating ! It very well could have a big knot on one of them
I wouldn't check the tires at all, except for size.
Definitely let me know when you are going to sell this one
I was thinkin front end alignment
I think you got brake pads that are locking up partially just from sitting. Nice looking Mercedes it’s a very clean car!
Those doors have a lot of rust in them.
I cut up old sheepskin seat covers and make them into lambs wool over rugs for the floor.
Right tie rod is bent
This is definitely worth the fix. Did you sell the SLK??
Probably a bent tie rod end , cheap easy fix will just need a wheel alignment afterwards , maybe from forklift picking it up at auction, or old Walter hit a kerb & bent it 🇦🇺👍😁
Forklift damage on the frontend is my guess. Probably ball joint damage are a tie rod got bent.
Love this car. Are the brakes hanging up?
Wow Mike you're taking your life in your own hands driving that thing around
This guy is really an Mercedes-Benz expert.. just taste the oil...hmmm, it´s good 🙂,really interesting to see how he`s approaching the S-Class.
I would keep the seat covers on for when you’re going on errands for auto parts.
You need to do 10 mile trips like Randy does
you could use the seat covers for the Saab story
Had the same issue with my w140 s420. The ball joints were done. The tires would drag and skip just like this. Inner tires were cupping while trying to drive straight.

You look great in it. Fix yhe suspension problem.
Another Monkey Wrench Mike, Mercedes adventure to be watched and enjoyed. Great video. Thank you.
LOL,, just replace the whole front suspension and you're good to go !!
You got a good deal
Thats a good 👍 Car Mike maybe Santa can help paint her 🚗🚗🚗

LOL,,, it turns right really easy..
The front wheel sticking out like that might be the track rod ends or lower wishbone.
It's very cool..⭐👍
The car needs alignment. That sound is from the tires since one straight and the other slightly off. Possible tie rods. Misalignment cause tires to screech on low speed.

Is there an emergency brake on

Why don’t you just sew a Mercedes-Benz patch over WAW and leave the dash cover on?
The wheels are about to fall off! Drive it until the wheels fall off 🤣🤣
Wau, sehr schön stück 😉👍👌💪❤️
If the ABS lights on hot start could be the OVP relay
It might be the tie rods Mike
once the bearings are replaced,, you'll see if brakes drag or bushings gone,,rubber dries and dies..major pucker on fuel pump.
me .. i think i would like the wheels at least visually straitened before the road.
It must be fun (myself never having quite experienced it) to get a car that is supposed to be dead, for practically nothing, and find out all it needed was a $20 part!
Do a car port alignment with a string. Those tires are not long for this world with that kind of scrub.
Just from initial appearance, the toe is off. Need alignment to set tires in line with each other
Something is definitely off with the wheels maybe a bent tie rod or control arm. I’ve changed tie rods and didn’t even try to align it and wheels sounded just like that. So definitely out of alignment
