    My carry-on bag is PERFECT. It is a Rick Steves brand bag and it is the perfect carry on size but is light and fits enough for a 4 week holiday through Europe!

    Hi Sonia. It might not be for everybody, but our favorite carry-on is a hard-sided case made by Porter Case. Search the web for info . Our two cases are almost 20 years old, and have been well abused (and we bought them used to begin with) and still functioning well. The unique feature is that they convert to a rolling cart that will hold up to 150 lbs. Even though we bought them used, the company has stood behind them and sent us spare parts at no charge to make small repairs over the years.

    Definitely check your airline requirements before choosing the carryon for that particular trip. I had a flight from LAX to Copenhagen, with a layover in Zurich. My carryon fit for transatlantic flight, but not the 2nd leg between Zurich & Copenhagen. Swiss Air has different size requirements for short flights.

    Heres my own carry on tip. Buy a carry on bag with the airlines name on it. Especially if you travelling to Europe no one weighs it at all, airlines name on it, good to go. The bag I find is nice, has 4 wheels on it, sturdy, light weight and has outside pockets as well. And I found it was either same price or cheaper than other carry on bags. Also if by chance you did not stand in line first, or connection flight etc....that phone call that distracted you, (you know the one) ...You get on the plane and cant find a space overhead, no problem, they actually so nice to check your carry on for you for free, thats right free because the airlines name is on it and they were in a good mood to help you out of distressful situation. Not something you should always count on but possible. Never hurt to fly with major airlines carry on luggage.

    One more thing - if you buy a bag with only two wheels, make sure that they are not too close together (often happens with duffle bags) as they are more unstable and wobble and tip to the side which is REALLY annoying if you are rushing between flights. Test by loading up a bag and dragging it quickly behind you to see how stable it is.

    Actually the carry-on allowance for Trans-Atlantic/Pacific British Airways bags are one personal item (purse/laptop bag) and a roll-aboard at 23kg EACH, as long as you can lift them unassisted. Meaning 100 pounds of carry on if you want it (the volume dimensions are pretty standard though).

    UPS for a 40 lb bag 25x12x9 in USA ground 33.40. 3 days in advance. Fed-ex same bag 37.00 ground. 2 days in advance. You than can have it shipped to their store. They will hold it for 5 days. Or Re-route to your hotel after your there. I personal wouldn't have it shipped to the hotel before. Then it would be safe at the UPS or Fed-Ex location.

    The Lipault foldable 2-wheels looks great. I am thinking about replacing my carry-on, which is also light-weighted & two-wheeled. My current carry-on, however, has the issue that when packing a lot of stuffs, it becomes extremely difficult to pull/drag. Wonder if Lipault's wheels are better, or I really should get the 4-wheel ones?

    Is it true that the size dimensions are less on many non-US carriers? I read that Air France's carry on maximum is 21x13x9. Do you ever have trouble using your 22x14x9 victorinox in coach? I was considering buying the 20" version for that reason. Thank you for these great videos and I love your French software too!

    do any of those carry-on fit under the seat in front of you on the plane? I prefer keeping my things close to use them on the plane. Also, do you have any suggestions to stick your carry-on to your main luggage? I usually bring a simple backpack to fix that issue but i'm sure sure you have a better idea.

    • @UniversalFarrago
      @UniversalFarrago 10 років тому +1

      God, no. If you're planning on actually carrying your carry-on bag, you absolutely must get a backpack design. Trust me, your back and shoulders will thank me for this. Remember, luggage is an investment, and you will get your money's worth, for better or for worse. If you plan on traveling a lot, you should definitely plan on pooling some money aside for a good bag, which can cost upwards of 100 dollars. If not, you can get something good for around 50 or so. Do NOT opt on the cheap for luggage of any kind, ever. It will make the difference between airport and road travel being a nightmare or a breeze (as far as you can control). Over-the shoulder bags are good for one thing, and one thing only. LIGHTWEIGHT strolling around. It's fine to have a tote or the like for a few on-plane essentials, but PACK THEM LIGHTLY. And when you get a backpack, make sure it's one with good padding and handles. Again, luggage is one of those things that can and will be very expensive for good quality, but it will be worth every penny. Ideally, you should travel with two bags, three at most. One on your back, one with FOUR wheels, and, if you really need it, a light shoulder bag. Pack smart, even out your weight distribution. Less is more, and you never want more than 3 bags. 3 is pushing it, more is out of the question. Gym bags are not really long-distance travel bags because they're big, bulky, heavy, lean on one side of your body, and are a pain in the ass to pack and unpack. In the world of luggage, pockets are your friends. Compartmentalize. Take the time to be organized and give everything its place. It will be pricy, but well worth the expense. Hope this helps. Oh, and one more thing. I stressed price matters on luggage, but do not make the mistake of assuming expensive= good. While this is largely true and should be a rule of thumb, remember that a lot of fancy brand-names make luggage, and they will be given outrageous prices because of the image the brand carries with it. Things like Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, etc. will make expensive luggage, but you can get something of equal quality for a fraction of their price. They're simply expensive because they're brands, and pretty. Be smart and do some homework before spending a lot of money on luggage, but don't be afraid to spend a lot either.
