    I know this wont be a popular opinion here on UA-cam, where the only adult's willing to comment on video's seem to be hardline communists or immigrant obsessed neo nazi's, but in my opinion this man is a rather formidable public speaker, and a skilled politician with the countries best interests at heart. Its a pity he was defeated.

      here here, he stands among the great underrated leaders who achieved much despite the odds against him... think callaghan and labours tiny majority at a time of oil crisis, think Attlee and his post war debt, think gordon brown and the disastrous events of the financial crash.

      Wow, nine likes for the comment about soundbites. Do you not consider any of new labours achievements worthwhile? Do you think Brown is particularly self interested? I would agree with anyone who says Blair became twisted and corrupt, and now gives speeches for thousands. But Brown always had more dignity than that

      ***** Correction, poll (not crystal ball) today shows those interviewed both believed he will improve Labour's chances of winning in 2020 and also worsen those chances, more than any of the other candidates.
      In other words, he is the most "polarising" candidate in this respect, as ComRes, that carried out the poll, put it.

    It's a mistake to confuse immigration and globalisation (which he discusses from 33.00 on) - China, Japan and S Korea are part of the global economy but have virtually no immigration. He has nothing to say on the subject, apart from disliking anti-immigration sentiment, "xenophobia" and nationalism (i.e. patriotism).

    Gordon is a great speaker. If he stood for leadership he would probably win but why wasn't this speech made by one of the candidates?. They have not communicated in this quality because they are simply not good enough. Only Jeremy puts forward a leaders ideology and I'm afraid the other candidates are just not of the same quality.

    Gordon Brown talks of making a difference NOT just a noise - all Labour's policies are about making noises (especially in opposition) but when elected they make little difference Certainly not IRREVERSIBLE differences. (Does the Labour Party actually know what irreversible means?)
    He calls for a broadening deepening reaching out for support - from independents, from right wing groups ? - We have witnessed their reaching out with a pink van and limited edition shopping bag offers - how about embracing new ideas and actually talking about the issues that effect working people.
    He states that PURE but IMPOTENT society desires should be shelved in favour of what ?
    ‘HOPE’ wrapped up in ELECTABLE MEALY MOUTHED HALF promises which are forgotten once elected. We have all experienced these policies, time and time again. Ever increasing taxes and social cuts for the poor in order to maintain the power of the wealthy elite -
    Can it really be so surprising that Corbyn is actually being listened to ?.......

    Labour will always be a party that's repressing its real views. This may be naive but I think that we need to be firm for the people and stand up for our beliefs, surely then people will support us. He's acting like everyone who voted UKIP and Conservative are hard core right wingers. Most of the population is confused and fed up of career politicians with views pandering to each others beliefs. The popularity of election campaigns are almost as much about image as they are about policy's (UKIPs rise for example) it's sad but this is what confusion does. People are uniformed and angry, they need a leader who passionately believes in the views they express. These arguments about the support of the people are ridiculous. We need to stand up for REAL labour beliefs. Then people will see what a real politician and a real party looks like.

  • @JamesMc2051
    @JamesMc2051 8 років тому +2

    Shambles. Labour lose election and start leadership process. Left wing candidate gets put forward by MPs (some of whom don't intend to back him) so that their entire range of voters are represented. This one left wing MP has a far better campaign than the other 3 identikits and connects with an audience and becomes favourite. At this point the right wing Blairites start to talk about coups and wheel out the old discredited ex-PMs to tell their own voters that they shouldn't elect a left-wing leader (this is Labour remember - Kier Hardie, Clement Atlee, etc). Meanwhile the right wing media who laughed at Corbyn at the start are now desperately trying to throw any scare story they can to derail the guy. Labour are totally happy if the left wing votes for them and shuts up and sticks to the back-benches but you can see here where their sympathies lie. They'd be smarter to take notice of what the electorate are telling them and stop trying to lead people. They think if they stand one step to the left of the Tories then this will be better for them but they fail to see the long term problem. Voters who want neoliberal policy will vote Tory rather than Kendall (eg) who backs govt policy and offers very little alternative, and those who don't want that won't vote for it. Meanwhile the Labour Party becomes a party that has no principles and just goes wherever it think the votes are (and judges that badly if recent history is anything to go by). They'd be better picking some principles and standing by them and stop trying to be such a broad church. Then they might be trusted more. All sincerity and principles have been focus-grouped out of them by now. Democratic and socialist are cloaks they wear to soak up votes but their manipulations and language suggests they care more for their own fortunes.

    • @philjones3346
      @philjones3346 8 років тому

      Jim McIntosh I agree with the tone of what you say. The broad church thing makes me laugh. The right wing love to use the term, but cry foul if they don't get the result they want.

    Watching on TV you don't get it but now I have seen still photos that show two autocues monitors at each side of the platform.
    By having them placed there Gordon is trying to create the illusion that this speech is extemporized. In fact he is reading it.
