One of my favorite quotes from Sheldon, and a great line about setting firm boundaries when dealing with painfully nosy individuals: "You don't need to know. You don't deserve to know. And you will never know."
Sheldon has always been my favorite character from TBBT, and this is quite probably one of my favorite scenes with him. Not because of the entire wormhole scenario. But because of how he was humanized here. For at least one scene, we were given the chance to experience things from his perspective, get his viewpoint on the world, and how he functions in it. Instead of making his character shallow and using him as the punchline as the authors usually do, they instead chose to show a side to Sheldon so rarely seen in the show. And I absolutely love that, and am kind of sad that so rarely was this side of his shown. It fascinates me how when viewing the comment section, most of the comments were focused on the first part of the scene instead of the second. Perhaps I missed the point entirely in it. Or perhaps I'm simply looking too deep into a rather light-hearted show. Nevertheless, good scene.
Nah, I agree completely with you here. This scene humanised him in the best possible way. Sheldon struggles in the ways his friends don't. And while they do understand him enough to put up with him, they can't completely grasp how he functions on a regular basis. With that brain that he has and anxiety and confusions, Sheldon has a lot going on. Even though it's a sitcom, the show does a great job at handling Sheldon.
Which is why the prank could work in the first place. Whatever Howard and Raj's opinions of Sheldon are, if they didn't at least respect his intelligence enough to believe he could do this, they never would have fallen for it.
The simplicity of this is great, we're expecting some really wacky and out there thing to happen. It's just him playing kick bag to ease some tension, brilliant 🤣
I like to think the directors just told Jim Parsons to keep the ball up as long as possible and in one of the outtakes, Jim actually made it to 43, so they had to reshoot it. XD
hes a genius. for someone like sheldon all figuring that out would take is the right software and 5 minutes of reading. Or he coulda paid someone to on whatever the big bang theory universes equivalent of fiverr is
Sheldon is legitimately upset here. He can be annoying with his quirks and spots and schedules but this is something that legit helps him wind down and he can do it by himself meaning it is sacred. He wasn't pulling a prank, he was setting a boundary. This is just how he sets boundaries. To Sheldon a prank is whimsical, not terrifying (usually)
This is one of my favorite Sheldon moments from the whole show, as there are some things he just wants to remain a mystery to his friends, adds to his character.
