  • Hamilton's Brian McGrattan is best known as a rough and tumble right winger who played professional hockey for more than 15 years, including stints with the NHL's Ottawa Senators, Phoenix Coyotes, Calgary Flames, and Nashville Predators. In today's Sportsline podcast, McGrattan talks with Bubba O'Neil about his toughest, most important fight - that with substance abuse.

What a humble, authentic and class human being. All I remember is watching him beat up people years ago for the Sens... He absolutely has my respect as a person who is not afraid to share his struggles, but also his victories through it. Very happy you had him on CHCH.

As someone who’s going thru the same thing, I can tell ya this dude’s legit. Everything he’s saying about substance abuse and mental health and the only person who can help you is ……yourself.!!! God Bless this guy and I only hope the best for him and his

I met Brian in rehab 2010 it was pretty hush hush due to his NHL status but I recall Brian to a good man who took the opportunity seriously to get himself back to wellness and back on the ice he was a big inspiration to a lot of us thereat that time myself included.I'm still sober today .Peace and love to all

clint, i really enjoyed this interview with brian mcgrattan. he was a tough customer on the ice back in his time. he had some personal issues of which he was able to overcome, and he tries to help other people overcome the same issues he went through.

Much respect for the Big Ern...a fierce battler on the ice and an even bigger battler off the ice to overcome his demons then to open up and help others...this interview alone could save someone's life.

I'd love to know what Gratts was thinking when he dropped Tie Domi and IMMEDIATELY put an end to Toronto's physical dominance over the Sens.

You've come a long way and technology has as well, I used to watch you on cable 14 in Oakville with your show, how long ago was that? late 70's early 80's ?

Thanks so much and hope you continue to watch. Foxy and I were on in the 1990's before I went to Sportsnet in 2000.

Why was brian mcgrattan pugnacious and truculent. He was bruins property at one time how come he never played there. That is so strange to me cause the bruins are far and away the toughest team ever

Brian had a cup of coffee with the bruins, I believe he went on the team trip to the Czech Republic in the beginning of the 2010 11 season, I don't think he ever played a game in the show for the bruins but I would have loved to have seen him in the spoked B, I'm so happy to see him doing well
