I saw a different review of this product and they pretty much say the same thing. Only difference is you mentioned that it only comes in one colour. Other then that, this seems to me like it's an incremental improvement over the older Radiomaster units except for the lack of a foldable rear bar. It's a real shame about that, but on the plus side there's no need to unscrew the radio's backside just to adjust the tension of the gimbals. I find that's the key selling point of this model. I hope someday Radiomaster decides to release something with a premium build quality that's worthy of those $1000+ models. That would really elevate their position in the RC radio market. Great review, Captain!

Hi i was wondering if you could help, i am looking for a drone £700 GBP or under with smart fly features including waypoints that shoot in 4k 60 with a 3 axis gimbal ideas for cinematic shots
Nope. When you buy a CAMERA GPS DRONE like a MAVIC, that is the beginner RC Hobby because no skill or knowledge is required. DJI and other companies in the camera drone world try to make everything as simple as possible for you which also means everything is proprietary and you are stuck with what came in the box, so you can't change out the included radio for something else, like the EACHIN TX16S radio.
When I was a young lad it was RADIO CONTROL and that is what I always called it. Then clubs started calling in REMOTE CONTROL because "RADIO" is a term only used by us old guys and "REMOTE" is the term all Camera Drones use. Either term is correct. The reason I was smiling when I said "REMOTE CONTROL" in the video is because I knew the only people that would leave a comment and say "RADIO CONTROLLER" are those who are not newbies and have been in the hobby for a long time ( like me).
In the world of drones we call them BEGINNER drones because anyone of any age can walk into a store a buy one off the shelf and then fly them with zero knowledge or experience. The drone does all the work for you. Now the ability to take great video and fly and operate a camera and know a thing or two about photography, that is where the skill is.
The major faults of the TX16s are that you (1) have to unlug the USB cord to power it on, or it won't power. This is a major problem if you use it to play simulators all the time like I do. Every time yout urn on the radio you have to unplug and plug back in the USB connector. (2) If you use umbrella style stick ends, the lower inside gimbal wells interfeere with stick travel to the lower right (left gimbal) and lower left (right gimbal) corners. (3) The gimbals are held inside against the front face by 4 screws, one on each corner. If you strip out any of these, like when installing lowering plates, you are PHUCKED. (4) The switches break off easy, so be extra careful not to bum the switches into anything. I broke one right off the bat by putting a pillow on top of my radio. Lesson learned. (5) The USB ports are not voltageprotected, so if you accidentally get 5vdc to one of the tx or rx or ground pads in your USB socket, you will fry out your main board. I know, I just did it. Remember #1, having to plug and unplug the USB cable over and over again every time you want to power ont he radio to play a simulator. Yeah, that wear and tear adds up unnecessarily over time. The stuff other people say are faults like the POTS being too lose or the sliders being too loose... in practice aren't any kind of issue. The 6p switch is in a hard to reach position, so it's good they moved it on the Eachine model, but there's probably a downside... it's going to be that much harder to get to and service inside the radio, and it's already pretty bad in the center as it is.
YIKES! You have had nothing but problems, either that or you're spending too much time reading the "trolls" comments on forums (back in the old days the trolls hated RADIOMASTER and would post everything negative... and RADIOMASTER deserved it back then because they radios were a bit on the cheap side). I can say most of the people I know in the hobby have no issues with the new TX16S models. I myself have no issues with the radio.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Nope, I was a Radiomaster fan girl up until about a week ago... I've got two and I highly blinged them out. They were the only part of the RC hobby that was actually working for me. None of my quads... work. I could write a whole page actually on how the TX16s could be improved, after flying about 2,000 hours with it in Liftoff and Velocidrone. It was a decent black radio at the time, which is exactly what I wanted (and then I proceeded immediately to add color to it, go figure), but now that I've got some serious mileage on mine I see all the blemishes the casual 5 minute reviewers missed. Like xjet said in one of his videos, you really don't know 5h1t about a product after owning it a few hours and playing with its exterior... it's only after you've owned it a few years and put some mileage on it that you really know what's to like about and what's to not (which is why he stopped doing fresh newly released product pron reviews). I happen to agree with him, when you first get a product, you only know the snow job that's been done on you or the snow job you've done on yourself about the product, and are only seeing the sparkle you want to see. Only when the rubber hits the road after some years do you learn what yeah... could of been done a lot better. I try to feed that kind of information back to the companies so they can improve their products, but I would say for the most part they just ignore me.
Another great video Steve...I have the carbon/red Radiomaster TX16s Max and love it......I have always maintained that RC meant Radio Control not Remote Control as some toy cars etc on a wire were also called remote control many years ago (you are far too young to remember them though no doubt :) )
I plugged a USB in on the top one time to play Velocidrone and fried on my TX16s mainboard... or something. It won't boot any more. If I try to charge it using the built in charger, it starts to cook inside. The lights will sometimes come on, sometimes not, and the speaker with make a hertz kina soft buzzing sound. Swapping out the batteries at 7.7v doesnt' change anything, nor trying to boot into boot loader mode by holding the trim switches in. So that's my WARNING to you about the TX16s line.
This is the first I have heard anyone have this issue. When you plug a USB in the top, it is a USB out to whatever you wish to connect to. The screen on the remote will say, use as joystick or data and then you select the one you want. Nothing can get fried from this port, unless of course you plug a power source into the top by accident (power source plugs in the bottom to charge the batteries in the radio).
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Actually, yes, 5vdc is going to that port, and as I found out, it can get fried. And when it fries the System board, it apparently will affect the bottom port and the charging system too, which will now overheat when the bottom port is plugged in. IT won't get past one "Knight Rider" chicken feet lights during the boot sequence, show the power light, and makes a buzzing sound when you hold the power key in. You can't enter flash/bootloader mode either by holding the two trims inward while booting. Strike one for Radiomaster TX-16s longevity. I have two units, so 50% failure rate after 1.5years? Maybe worse, since I used one exclusively, and the other that still works hardly got used? This does not bode well. I put in a service ticket and I'm going to try and get the main "motherboard" replaced by Radiomaster because it's obviously quite fried. Sucks, because with all the upgrades and Crossfire JRbay modules, I've got about $800 in these two radios :-/ and up until now they were the only RC equipment I had that was actually working the way it was suppose to be working. My quads never worked, and are still nothing more than a bunch of non-flying boxes of parts. rotorbuilds.com/pictures/f_13906_b5mhGjeD57myBtcqWVQg5DS2c.jpg
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 OMG, Facepalm, Radiomaster sent me this email back: "This issue is most likely caused by a slightly misaligned ribbon cable- which can happen due to impact forces during shipping and handling. Please assist us in trying to reseat the main ribbon cable on both ends" Arg, there are no impact forces going on, the radio travels from the top of my desk to my lap and back again playing simulators as basically a dumb Nintedo controller, over and over. I'm not even sure how to respond to this email, except say back give me a G.D. RMA. Not winning points here, Radiomaster. This is almost as bad as when I told Flywoo they were putting a bum XT60 on the quads they were shipping that was out of spec that would fry your ESC if you mated the power connector backwards (not suppose to happen with a correctly built XT60. Flywoo's response was "Would you like a 10% discount on a new flight controller? (And y first thought was, do you know the difference between a flight controller and an ESC? I'm trying to tell you to stop shipping out quads with a bad connector because your choice in suppliers for an XT60 totally fried my quad after one flight) Yeah, I think I'm going to tell them there are no impact forces, just please send me an RMA :-/ :-/ :-/ If you have a TX-16, you know, when the radio is off and you plug in the USB data cable up top, one of the orange lights will light up and stay lit as it's getting 5vdc off that same cable. You can leave it plugged in for weeks like that and it won't crain the battery, but it won't charge itup either... it just lights the light. All it takes is for that 5vdc on the USB connector to jump tot he RX, TX, or ground inside the connector apparently to fry things out, and those pins or edge connector has been shrunk down so wicket small with USB-C that' it's not hard to do.... there must not be any or much active resetable fuse protection on that port in the radio.... which is not a good thing.
@@choppergirl Ribbon Cable? How old is this radio? You see in the olden days of Radiomaster they had about a 95% failure rate due to ribbon cables, so then they made radios with zero ribbon cables.
Ha ha, I was waiting for someone to post this. So far you are only the second person... thought I'd have more. So when I first started in the RC hobby, the RC was for Radio Controlled. Then as time went on clubs started using "Remote Controlled" since the term "Radio" was considered prehistoric. Either term is acceptable (at least in my neck of the woods) and I can immediately tell the people who have been in the hobby a very long time that say RADIO CONTROLLED and the newbies all say REMOTE CONTROLLED.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Yes indeed! I am a dinosaur! Being prehistoric myself, my ears (such as they are) perked up at hearing the words "remote controlled" and all I thought of was vintage remotes for old CRT TVs. Times have indeed changed since I joined the hobby flying .049 gas powered planes, boats, and cars. I SO appreciate your channel and posts. You make me smile very often and provide a wealth of insight into the RC hobby both modern and vintage. It is also a true pleasure hearing your take on things from the perspective of The Great White North. Your enthusiasm is infectious. Oh BTW, my ANET ET5X 3D printer just arrived, so I told my wife that my entry into yet another hobby was squarely the fault of you and your brother-in-law! Keep up the good work! ;-)
@@glorbeard Thanks Josh. I too had the good old .049 Cox planes and a friend had the first one that was radio controlled (short flight time, short range) and fun.
Nope, in the hobby segment RC stands for Radio-controlled device. "RC" label hence "remote-controlled" is not in regards to the hobby segment as you also used that phrase RC = Remote controlled for devices that are tethered or by cable or pullies - but where you are placed at a distance and could use the phrase RC = Remote controlled so "RC" for the hobby based RC segment stands for "radio-controlled"
In the good old days when I first entered the RC hobby, the term was RADIO CONTROLLED. Today if anyone says RADIO CONTROLLED, you know they have been in the hobby for over 10 years. Documentation, newcomers, and the general public all say REMOTE CONTROLLED (even the government in my country uses it). For all of the above, I switched to REMOTE CONTROLLED. The same is true for DRONES. In my day we called the QUADS (quadcopters). Rarely do you hear that anymore, and everything in media and general conversation is DRONE. So when someone says QUADCOPTER, I know they have been around in the hobby for a long time.
Yes they are. In the RC Hobby world there is only one type of drone that requires no knowledge of the RC Hobby to use it and that is the GPS Camera Drones. We call them BEGINNER Drones because anyone can go to a store and buy one, then charge up the batteries and go fly them with zero experience. You can't do that with most other items in the RC Hobby because you have to know how to program a radio, how to operate a battery charger, how to buy the correct batteries, how to setup and receiver, how to make use of BETAFLIGHT to program items as well as other software.
I get this every time I call the camera drone hobby the BEGINNER hobby. So to help educate you think of this. Did you do any training or have any knowledge before you bought your first camera drone? The answer is nope. You went to the store or order your drone online. Opened the box, charged everything up and went for a flight. That is know as the BEGINNER hobby. You didn't have to pick out the motors, props, receiver, battery type, learn how to use a real battery charger, learn how to setup a radio, learn how to configure the flight controller in BETAFLIGHT and the list goes on and on. The only skill in flying a GPS Camera drone is being able to make use of the camera to take video that actually looks good.
I personally would have to use it with less expensive airplanes before using it with my Giant scale Warbirds. But I'd never replace my Jeti Duplex 2.4GHz/900MHz Radio Systems & Receivers with a $176 Radio to fly a $15,000+ Turbin Powered Jet Model. Not even a $1,500 Electric Jet.
All depends when you entered the hobby. Today it is REMOTE CONTROL and in the past it was RADIO CONTROL. I use both intermittently as all new members of the RC hobby rarely call the item a RADIO, or TRANSMITTER, but rather a REMOTE.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I have been running through watching your vids… I am new to these drones, but I am interested in long flight time to assist me in scouting terrain. I don’t have any interest in acro or speed… steady and good clarity, long flight time are what I need.
No such thing... How new are you to the world of drones? Are you confused and think a drone speaks to a cell tower? It is the tower that is 3G, 4G, 5G. Educate yourself a bit more before posting such a comment. Budget drones require a 5GHZ (which in plain English is 5 gigahertz spectrum communication). Most things in your home are in that spectrum and communicate daily. So if your phone was purchased in the last 4 years it should be able to talk to wifi within that spectrum.
Correct, I agree with you because that is what it stood for when I was a kid. For some reason over the years it was changed to Remotely Controlled at clubs.... Perhaps that is just a North American thing.
And no not all TX16S has the IPS screen. the earlier TX16s builds had the 1000nits brightness TN panels which I also belive Frsky Horus line like 12S etc are using, though without the touch feature. Sadly there seems to be some problems with the IPS screen in TX16s variats and its the polarisation filter that have been put of center 90 degrees so people with glasses or sunglasses with polarisation will have to have their head at an 90 degree angle., if wearing polarised glasses.. not sure if that has been fixed or? YT channel John Salt that mentioned it Biggest problem with the IPS is in direct sunlight. the Futata 18FZ had IPS screen, and way to dim outdoor in direct sunlight. sadly haven't seen any that tested the max brightness of the IPS panels in TX16s. here is a test of the TN panels. TX16S Hall 4-1 3Q 2020 back when they costed 115USD on BG. ua-cam.com/video/DHRyWeuW4xE/v-deo.html IMO you need two upgrades on the standard TX16S (get a better speaker, as they are all cr4p the TX16s, both the Max and it doesn't matter if its 1 or 2 speakers.. it is bad speakers Radiomaster are using. compare it to fx an Horus and you can sense the speaker quality are way inferior and very thinny. a cheap 2USD 4 or 8Ohm wide frequency speaker from China will do wonders and it ain't like we are blasting dubstep music, its mainly vocal so you not getting close to the drivers rating of 4Ohm 2.4watt. and the second upgrade to the stock unit I would do, is the folding handle from Jumper, its like 4 or 5 USD and I personally like that better than the big honking alugrip that Radiomaster sells as spares or fitted on the Max. and remember when you buy on fx BG, use a cash back site, then you the end-user will get that 5% back into your PayP and where it needs to go... lowest price for the end user, then you can patreon on the content creators you like..that tactic will do wonders to stop the affiliate bananas destroying forums in hostility.

Banggood does that often when they give me a coupon. It has a limit on numbers ordered as well as an expiry date, but I never known which is what.
Radiomaster forever
Thanks for the great information
Aha !! Am still trying to figure out the terminology !
ha ha, I know, I made it so confusing :-)
Will it also have aluminum face plates?
Nope, it will only be in black as shown here.
In Australia RC is "Radio Control" not 'Remote Control".
0:36 "BOATS" lol
Looks like a great remote. Nice review
DJI drones are not beginner drones, they are photography drones
In the world of drones we call them BEGINNER drones because anyone of any age can walk into a store a buy one off the shelf and then fly them with zero knowledge or experience. The drone does all the work for you. Now the ability to take great video and fly and operate a camera and know a thing or two about photography, that is where the skill is.
How does this compare to the Futaba 16 sz, looks more like a spektrum
Neither of those are Multi-Protocol Radios
I like the look of the original tx16s, more professional while the eachine one looks more toy like.
Nice radio controller! But can you replace the handle with a foldable one? I imagine so
Yes
How many model can be programmed into this transmitter?
More than you probably own.
Nice radio

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 OMG, Facepalm, Radiomaster sent me this email back:
"This issue is most likely caused by a slightly misaligned ribbon cable- which can happen due to impact forces during shipping and handling. Please assist us in trying to reseat the main ribbon cable on both ends"
Arg, there are no impact forces going on, the radio travels from the top of my desk to my lap and back again playing simulators as basically a dumb Nintedo controller, over and over.
I'm trying to tell you to stop shipping out quads with a bad connector because your choice in suppliers for an XT60 totally fried my quad after one flight)
Yeah, I think I'm going to tell them there are no impact forces, just please send me an RMA :-/ :-/ :-/
If you have a TX-16, you know, when the radio is off and you plug in the USB data cable up top, one of the orange lights will light up and stay lit as it's getting 5vdc off that same cable.
Pretty cool
I loved this video Steve, just what I was looking for recently!
Oh and by the way:
What is the music on the outro?
use the shazam app on your phone, it can tell you any music by letting it listen to a few seconds of it.
It is called LOUD & CLEAR & you can find it on UA-cam
Hi captain drone😁from the Philippines.
Cool video Captain Drone
EXCELLENT VIDEO SIR.
Many thanks
Nice intro
Thanks
Just tried to use the " BGCAPTAIN632" coupon. Banggood wouldn't take it
Oh that is not good. I wonder if the limit was reached for the number of units sold with that code.
Just to be perfectly clear....RC stands for Radio Controlled, not Remote Controlled.
A strange occorance and a bargain!!😁😁😁
Nope, in the hobby segment RC stands for Radio-controlled device.
"RC" label hence "remote-controlled" is not in regards to the hobby segment as you also used that phrase RC = Remote controlled for devices that are tethered or by cable or pullies - but where you are placed at a distance and could use the phrase RC = Remote controlled
so "RC" for the hobby based RC segment stands for "radio-controlled"
Jjrc x19 pls
nice radiomaster TX16s with other name!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
present.... friend good
Echine doesn't have touch screen
My Mavic and evo2 are not beginner drones....
Great
Dji , Autel .......beginner rc hobby maybe for fpv dorks otherwise i think not .....you might want to do a reality check dude!
Velmi hrubé pohyby, ale legrační podívaná.
I'm late again peep's
Nice
Um…R/C ….Radio Control…..not Remote Control
All depends when you entered the hobby. Today it is REMOTE CONTROL and in the past it was RADIO CONTROL. I use both intermittently as all new members of the RC hobby rarely call the item a RADIO, or TRANSMITTER, but rather a REMOTE.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Seriously ? Ok…I stand corrected. I guess I’m just an old fart !
@@giuseppe4909 Oh, I’m an old fart as well. I used to call FPV Quads…. Quads. Today everyone calls anything with 4 horizontal props a Drone.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I have been running through watching your vids… I am new to these drones, but I am interested in long flight time to assist me in scouting terrain. I don’t have any interest in acro or speed… steady and good clarity, long flight time are what I need.
@@giuseppe4909 Just get a beginner camera drone with GPS like the DJI Mini 2.
I reckon the Eachine will have inferior soldering and metals !!!
Why does no one talk about the fact that almost all drones require a 5G phone?
No such thing... How new are you to the world of drones? Are you confused and think a drone speaks to a cell tower? It is the tower that is 3G, 4G, 5G. Educate yourself a bit more before posting such a comment. Budget drones require a 5GHZ (which in plain English is 5 gigahertz spectrum communication). Most things in your home are in that spectrum and communicate daily. So if your phone was purchased in the last 4 years it should be able to talk to wifi within that spectrum.
Radio control
Correct, I agree with you because that is what it stood for when I was a kid. For some reason over the years it was changed to Remotely Controlled at clubs.... Perhaps that is just a North American thing.
That's what i had back in the day
First
And no not all TX16S has the IPS screen.
the earlier TX16s builds had the 1000nits brightness TN panels which I also belive Frsky Horus line like 12S etc are using, though without the touch feature.
YT channel John Salt that mentioned it
Biggest problem with the IPS is in direct sunlight.
the Futata 18FZ had IPS screen, and way to dim outdoor in direct sunlight.
sadly haven't seen any that tested the max brightness of the IPS panels in TX16s.
here is a test of the TN panels.
TX16S Hall 4-1 3Q 2020 back when they costed 115USD on BG.
ua-cam.com/video/DHRyWeuW4xE/v-deo.html
IMO you need two upgrades on the standard TX16S (get a better speaker, as they are all cr4p the TX16s, both the Max and it doesn't matter if its 1 or 2 speakers.. it is bad speakers Radiomaster are using.
compare it to fx an Horus and you can sense the speaker quality are way inferior and very thinny.
a cheap 2USD 4 or 8Ohm wide frequency speaker from China will do wonders and it ain't like we are blasting dubstep music, its mainly vocal so you not getting close to the drivers rating of 4Ohm 2.4watt.
and the second upgrade to the stock unit I would do, is the folding handle from Jumper, its like 4 or 5 USD and I personally like that better than the big honking alugrip that Radiomaster sells as spares or fitted on the Max.
and remember when you buy on fx BG, use a cash back site, then you the end-user will get that 5% back into your PayP and where it needs to go... lowest price for the end user, then you can patreon on the content creators you like..that tactic will do wonders to stop the affiliate bananas destroying forums in hostility.
