START to FINISH on MASSIVE LEAF CLEAN UP in REAL TIME

  • I found this video and realized that it has never been posted, but it's really good, so I wanted to share it with you. If you have been watching my channel for a while, you know that I am no longer selling my service, and all of my projects are now free of charge to the community. However, this project was from when I was still in business. For the people who would like to know a pricing breakdown of what this service cost, I have left a breakdown below. I know that this will help many people who are in business and just trying to figure it out so that they can make a living.
At this time, I billed out my services at $125 an hour, and the dump site visit is included in the hourly price. The total price for the cleanup on these two properties was $500. I used this hourly method for all of my cleanups. The benefits of billing hourly on cleanups are that you are always in a zone of making a profit versus charging by the job, where you could go negative very easily. It's super easy to underestimate how many leaves and how long a leaf cleanup will take you. There are also different expectations from client to client. So, if they know that they are paying for the time that you work, then they will not have unrealistic expectations of cleaning up every leaf. This is very important because while you can get the majority of leaves, there will always be a very small amount that you are not able to clean up without being at that property for several more hours.
I am not telling you to not do a good job. However, many times while cleaning up leaves, they are still falling or they have been rained on, and the very bottom layer has begun to break down and is sticking to the soil. Once you have cleaned up that massive majority of leaves, the small bit that is left stuck in the dirt will dry out and be much easier to clean up on a follow-up visit. Leaf removals should not be done only once a year. It is terrible for your lawn to let the leaves sit on the grass too long, as it will kill the turf. My suggestion is that for your existing lawn care clients, you try to get them on a regular service schedule with no less than a monthly leaf cleanup service through fall and the winter months, but a weekly or biweekly schedule is ideal for both you as the business owner and the homeowner. When you come on a more frequent schedule, this allows you to clean up the leaves before they get too thick and wet to clean up easily. This means you will be at the property for less time but there more often. This will keep you busy and the client's property looking great. This will also give you steady income and avoid a huge bill for the client.
The service in this video was at about 2 weeks right after the heavy drop. That is another thing when it comes to leaves; they come in waves. You will see trees like maples and elms drop sooner in the fall, and trees like oaks will typically have 3 drops: a first drop that is light, a heavy drop, and just when you are completely over leaves and want nothing else to do with them... well, here comes the third drop. This will happen in early spring. I hope all of this information helps whether you are in business or looking to pay for a leaf cleanup. one more thing is that magnolia trees don't drop leaves in the fall, just the the heat of the summer and they are a pain to clean up. learn the trees in your area and what they do during the season and that will immensely help you in your business. I mention this because it will affect your pricing. say a lawn has a magnolia tree, well you need to find out what your customers' expectations are for the stuff that falls if they want it cleaned up all season you will need to figure that into your lawn mowing price. that will be extra time that is consumed in the day and often times in the amount of time that it takes you to clean up those leaves / seed pods you could have mowed another property start to finish.
The last thing I want to say to the business owners out there is that if you choose to charge by the hour, you must not be unethical. This means NO BREAKS WHILE WORKING. You can stop for a second to get water, but you better be doing something while you are drinking it. Remember they are paying for your time, and if they see you taking breaks, they will remember that more than seeing you work for hours. DON'T BE LAZY. Nothing works unless you do, and billing by the hour will piss people off if they don't see that you are an absolute machine.

Having done my own leaf removal every year since 1986, I testify that you have given true, careful and expert advice in your video comments. Excellent. Your description is almost as if you were doing MY leaf removal every year, which is three or four drops over a 6-8 week period.
I have 16 trees on my property of slightly less than an acre. The prevailing westerly wind also brings leaves from my neighbor's two large trees and every Fall looks like this video. I have to blow on days when the wind is from the west or I have to use other means such as the mower or simply raking. I only have to get them to the curb where the township sucks them up on about four or five passes into December. That's fine because I have far too many leaves to have them at the curb for fewer passes.
Because of age I will soon have to pay someone else to do it but it has to be more than one visit. It will have to be four as three won't complete the job. I dread farming the job out because the needs of the employed do not match up with my needs. Namely $$.
But I digress! Excellent and true life video. Just sitting watching it brings to mind every little pain I experience with the satisfaction of enjoying the clean up.

I have 2 live oaks in the front yard plus a small maple, a dogwood, and another live oak in the side yard, and 2 live oaks in the backyard! I WISH I could blow all of those leaves in 4 hours! I also blow 3 times a year. Mid November, mid December, and late February. At least 5 hours each time and that's only the FRONT YARD! I'm getting too old for this! Great job, Kevin! Try to blow BEFORE the rains come! Too heavy after rain. Takes SO MUCH LONGER!

Ugh! I live in the woods and the trees are beautiful but in the fall! First come the acorns and then come the leaves, and leaves, and leaves! It takes a month or better to clear them because different types of trees drop their leaves at slightly different times. This scene is all too familiar to me! But you made it look beautiful! And don’t get me wrong, I love where I live; the trees are beautiful and it is peaceful and serene but there is always a trade off in life and fallen leaves is mine.

How wonderful to watch another video
I am mesmerised when I watch you in action with all your tools
You have an amazing and vast collection of tools still you work twice as hard if we paid someone to do the same work
I watch from the U.K. 🇬🇧 and can’t get over the vast gardens
In the U.K. we would class your gardens as parks
Generally we have small and manageable gardens to maintain so we can enjoy our gardens
Gardening is very therapeutic and good for mental health too
I do a little at a time and enjoy gardening can’t wait for Spring
A little advise from a much older person to you
Please wear your gloves when picking up the garbage
Wear a mask 😷 when applying strong chemicals and blowing all that dust isn’t good for your lungs
I pray 🙏🏻 all goes well for the arrival of your 2nd baby
My best wishes to you and your family
I really look forward to many more videos
One day many years from now you will look back at your life and thank the Lord and say to yourself
“You know what I did it all by myself”
God bless you always keeping you safe and healthy 🥰🇬🇧

I have a GIANT tree in my back yard that I planted almost 50 years ago. It drops its leaves over several months during the fall, winter, and into the spring. Blowing and raking the leaves is almost a daily project...but those leaves were very welcome during the summer when the shade makes life outside a lot more bearable.
Per your discussion, above, I know that I will NEVER get the last leaf. And sometimes when I'm raking up a small patch that will fit on a square point shovel, it seems less pointless when I think that at least "I'll never have to rake THESE leaves again." 🙂

grouse work Kevin mate that,s gotta be one of the biggest world record holders on leaf clean up for sure just watching the video content all the way through for sure and cheers from Australia 🐨🐑🦘🌴🇦🇺 to your area and well yep with a rake alone that would have taken for sure at least a couple of weeks for a yard that size from my view but a good thing you had that backpack leaf blower for sure and yep always handy for jobs like these ones etc.

Kevin, you have explained all that to a tee! You could give some of our garden people, here in UK a run for their money! We recently moved to a lovely area... from urban to to rural .... had an operation after a month being in new home... got a gardener, and ohh, let's just say ... horrible turnout!!! Never again! I'm just getting myself more mobile.... I'm thankful for that ... just to be thankful for the outdoors .... peace, love the outdoors, and love my garden... it's just tranquil and so good for mental health.... you just lose yourself in your garden ❤ you carry on Kevin, do what you do.. because you do good lovely... hats off to you love 🎩👒 big up to our Kevin and family 😊❤

I find it fascinating how you manipulate those leaves with your blower. You are a pro at it! 😄 The lawns looked great when you finished. I love trees, do have to contend with the leaves though. Right now they are sitting on my lawn like you say not to do in your description of video. I’ll mulch them in Kevin. 😄 💚 from Texas
