- This has been uploaded before, but this is a superior recording
Melanie Williams is a UK singer. She is best known for singing on the hit single, "Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use)" alongside the Manchester dance outfit Sub Sub (who later became Doves) here she is performing on the controversial channel four series "The word"
From the ashes of Sub Sub rose the band Doves, best thing to have happened to mankind ❤❤❤
The ashes, literally!! 🔥
what a way to state the obvious
God, this song is so funky! Melanie is a great singer and gorgeous.
Exciting music, people having fun geez growing up in the 1990's was the best!
For me, these were the good old days...
This tune helped me out a few times during and after a long weekend of fun.
How gorgeous was she??
9/10
Still is

I so love this song, never seen this live though until now and boy is it good. Blast from the past!.
Doves... my god, their origins. Such an incredible band.
This was a great tune and it's just gets better with whiskey 🥃
I bet it does.
From this to 'Forest House' by Doves. Wow!
Listened to this tune while on acid at the age of 15 circa '92. Shout out to Fat Head and Hutch!
Brilliant tune from a brilliant show. September 2020 full pandemic and i say fuck that and listen to this...
Pretty good use of a sample - original track is by Revelation and called Good morning Starshine
I love this! Always loved this song, but i didn't know there was a show like this on television in 93.
"The Word"
The Word was on late night Fridays ‘90 - ‘95. Channel 4 ended up cancelling it because it was so chaotic. So many classic music performances though. Then came the mid 90’s TFI Friday Britpop era.
I watched this, loved it, and the following week got the CD single. Looking back, never realised how hot Mel was ! Sorry Mel. Brilliant song though
Ésta es la canción que pasaban muy a menudo en el programa "Back to Disco" de Stereo Cien que conducía don Mario Vargas (q.e.p.d)
Wow this is live.absolutely class
You know this is the band DOVES aye no shit bruv
Melanie is a member of black music royalty from the North West region of the UK. The Manchester area. Some of the greatest post 70s vocalist in the UK have come from that region. Melanie is just one of them. Someday a long overdue film will be made about these goddesses. Unsung heroines every one of them. Some you’ll know about and would have heard of. Most of them unknown to you will be in your record, CD or downloaded collection of tunes on other major artists’ hit records. All of them are great lead vocalists in their own right. Now go and educate yourselves…
Melanie Williams, Diane Charlemagne, Yvonne Shelton, Lisa Stansfield, Fyza, Lorna Bailey, Veba, Dawn Zee, Rowetta, Denise Johnson, Cleo Huggins, Doreen Edwards, Beverly Bygraves, Deanna James, Viv Dixon
Estelle Cecil who's asking to be educated?
Thanks for that Estelle
You frogot the most prolific UK soul aritst Delores 'Deluxe'Springer
She is absolutely shocking live.
Been a few times.
I personally knew sadly departed never forgotten Denise and Diane - met several of the others.
The Word remember me and some of friends sometimes used to watch this before we went clubbing on a friday nights.
thank god they also know how to make great music
carl cox played this in brisbane the other week , the place went off !!!!! TEEEEEERACK
Brisbane!! Ffs, he could've played Black Lace's 'Agadoo' and the place would have 'went off''. I've a feeling I'm still going to be laughing about this, twelve months from now!
So good.
Brilliant
It's 1993 - frightningly 20 years ago !
jeffcher10 Best make that 25 years ago Jeff. Jeez, it's frightening how quickly time flies by.
29 years ago now - and I was in the crowd when this was recorded. Christ I feel old.
Even more frighteningly, it's 30 now.
LOVE IT😂❤🎉
God I miss the 90s......
Aren't Sub Sub now known as Doves..!
moddave78 Yes 👍🏾
Yep studio burnt down lost all their synths etc so picked up guitars and became Doves and a better band
She does seem to be singing that live!
it's totally live!
Me recordó la época disco
Couldn't stop laughing at the bloke doing his "best" Human League dancing
In the white top and jeans....🤣🤣🤣🤣
Very appropriate words 🤷🏼♂️
Stewart Lee didn't let himself go yet
A little interference but great to see this live. Thank you
I know Melanie is performing live, but are the band Sub Sub actually performing live as well? The music sounds different from the single version.
I think they are, proper musicians
I'm from the US and was wondering if anyone knows if they actually perform or if it's just lipsynced? I noticed she said something in the mic at the end and couldn't hear anything. I know it's a pretty common thing
Live vocal to backing track .
Is it live? Or backing tracking?
It's a great song but it's not a live recording, which was unusual for the Word as most acts on there did perform live. In fairness we all know that the guys are decent musicians (Doves) & Melanie Williams was actually a decent vocalist.
Hey! Ich finde deine Videos echt cool! Man merkt, dass du dir echt viel Mühe bei deinem Video gegeben hast! Ich hoffe du schaust auch mal bei mir Vorbei!
When was this
1993
What year is this? 1996?
