had a 1.2 extreme in silver when i was 18 and it felt like the fastest car in the world. i used to take it all over the central belt in scotland looking for fun roads to drive, the brakes were good and the car was stable which got me out of a lot of trouble, ultimately the engine is underpowered and it runs out of momentum once you get into 3rd gear at 50mph but it could sit at 100mph just fine, and i had a k&n air filter kit that audibly kicked in at 4k rpm, so it felt like vtec giving me another 50% horsepower 😂. it's all about the light weight and short wheelbase, and agility it gives you, they made it well balanced too, so with proper tyres on it it had some proper cornering force. a good momentum car. also nice on the motorway with good gearing. it was spacious enough for 4 passenger's and practical for road trips with good ground clearance for camping and economical with 40mpg. it was also gorgeous, great stance, the subtly sloping roof, cool headlights make it still look modern, nice simple five spoke alloys not even worth changing. also it had automatic winscreen wipers and headlights, which only luxury german sedans had at the time. they worked excellently. ragged that thing on a daily basis for 4 years, i would give it 8/10 on for 5 mins in b road then cruise at 100 on the motorway for 10 miles thenrace every light in the city, at weekends i would throw it into slow corners of hold fast corners every chance i could and nothing broke and it never let me down. crackin wee car so it was 🥲

I had the same engine on a 2002 phase II.. Very reliable and economic car if well maintained. But the performance.. well, good for city driving. You better think carefully if you have enough space to overtake on the road, especially with AC on :D

Older 1996-1999 Fiesta MK4 1.25 Zetec with 75hp was slightly faster. at least on top speed, could manage 180 easily. I do still have a MK6 1.25 from 2003. @@TopSpeedBrothers I've got a 1.6 16v mk2 face-lift car here in the UK. Astonishingly quick little thing!
Lol how'd you get the info that it has 1.2 3cyl diesel? In clios there were only 1.5 dCi variants when it comes to diesels, and a small run of 1.9, but both of these were 4cyl. It even revs well past the diesel territory, diesels usually end at around 5500 rpm and this engine (D7F) goes to 6000 easily (I mean there is info about fuel cut at 5250 but it has to be under certain conditions, since I've wittnesed mine going above that in some circumstances
