What you saw in the "Obsession" MV was that EXO's doppelgangers were actually their alter ego clones and they were using their superpowers, such as Chanyeol with his fire power, Sehun uses his wind power to deflect the arrows, Baekhyun uses his power of light as a saber in the fencing battle, and Suho (the one with red hair) controls water in the room with all the pictures of water, etc. to fight their other selves. At the very end you see the planet on fire in the end of the MV because it's supposed to show how the world is coming to an end as EXO (the good guys in all black) and X-EXO (the evil ones in the colorful outfits with crazy hair and makeup) battle for control, etc. (Each of the members are playing 2 different characters -- there are only 6 people in this MV.) X-EXO has been created by the evil Red Force and EXO and X-EXO are fighting each other. EXO are trying to prevent X-EXO from taking over and corrupting humanity and X-EXO are trying to stop EXO from finding the Tree of Life and putting the two halves back together and restoring peace, etc. To truly understand EXO, you need to be aware that EXO debuted in 2012. "Mama" is EXO's debut song and MV and it is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept -- and since then, everything SM does branches off from that storyline. From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers. Now you also need to know that In the beginning there was 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sang and performed their songs in Korean and EXO-M sang and performed those same songs in Mandarin Chinese. EXO-K had 6 Korean members and EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean members. So, to really understand their full origin story, you have to watch both the K and the M version of "Mama", because the EXO-K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the EXO-M version focuses on the M members and their powers. I think at times we have been watching EXO, and at times we have been watching X-EXO -- with the release of "Obsession" we have only just discovered that the story hasn't necessarily been showing EXO the whole time. With the new information provided to us through "Obsession," it also makes me question how Lay fits within the X-EXO/EXO storyline. Maybe he is one of the members who has been able to break free or avoid the Red Forces' control. In Lay's solo MV for "Sheep," the Allen Walker relift version, we see everything burning outside as if an apocalypse is happening. Maybe "Sheep" is showing us the planet burning from Lay's viewpoint, like we see the world burning at the end of the "Obsession" MV. Also, I believe that the storyline in "Obsession" is connected to SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV storyline. If you pay attention to what Baekhyun and Kai were wearing in "Obsession," those outfits are very similar to the black outfits that Baekhyun and Kai are wearing in the "Jopping" MV. Kai is even wearing the same backpack parachute in both MVs. Which seems to be SM Entertainment's way of making sure we see the connection between those MVs. Therefore, it is thought that, as part of SuperM's storyline, Baekhyun and Kai have gathered the best of the best of SM's groups -- Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT, Ten from WayV and Lucas who is a former member of WayV -- to help them battle the Red Force, and maybe, eventually, take down X-EXO. Just like the Marvel Avengers come together as individual superheroes with their own storylines to create the Avengers and to fight evil, it is thought that SuperM is coming together to create the ultimate supergroup to help EXO fight the evil and corruption inflicted on humanity by the Red Force. Their versatility in their discography is one of the main unique things about EXO, together with their insane vocals, that sets them apart from the rest. Their b-sides are crazy good and there is something for everyone as they cover a lot of genres. You "were expecting a boy group K-pop song." Honestly, I'm GenX and avoided K-pop for that reason until EXO in July. I heard their skills and I was like, "Wow! This is grown folks music! And they can sing!" I've been deep down in the rabbit hole since. And loving it! It's funny you weren't expecting what you happily found in Obsession. I was the same. But EXO has been all over the place over the years... Like other commenters, I strongly suggest their classics "Tempo," "Call Me Baby," "Monster" (those harmonies, OMG) and their debut "Mama." They get hardcore party with "Drop That (Live)" and smooth with "Groove" and "Ooh La La La." And "Artificial Love" is a more mellow, funky EDM piece. They hit RnB hard. I can listen to the newer "Hear Me Out" and "Let Me In" all day. Honestly, I can listen to these guys harmonize anything all day. I'm sure you won't be able to react to all the suggestions. I just think you might find those songs interesting on your own. Anyway, I really enjoy how well you explain your reactions. Thank you and happy listening! lol

This is probably my favorite from EXO. The visuals are insane, the beat, the vocals…there’s nothing like it - no one compares to EXO. NO ONE.
Their versatility in their discography is one of the main unique things about EXO, together with their insane vocals, that sets them apart from the rest. Their b-sides are crazy good and there is something for everyone as they cover a lot of genres. The Obsession album for example is a must listen if you liked this song that is the title track of the album.

You "were expecting a boy group K-pop song." Honestly, I'm GenX and avoided K-pop for that reason until EXO in July. I heard their skills and I was like, "Wow! This is grown folks music! And they can sing!" I've been deep down in the rabbit hole since. And loving it! It's funny you weren't expecting what you happily found in Obsession. I was the same. But EXO has been all over the place over the years... Like other commenters, I strongly suggest their classics "Tempo," "Call Me Baby," "Monster" (those harmonies, OMG) and their debut "Mama." They get hardcore party with "Drop That (Live)" and smooth with "Groove" and "Ooh La La La." And "Artificial Love" is a more mellow, funky EDM piece. They hit RnB hard. I can listen to the newer "Hear Me Out" and "Let Me In" all day. Honestly, I can listen to these guys harmonize anything all day. I'm sure you won't be able to react to all the suggestions. I just think you might find those songs interesting on your own. Anyway, I really enjoy how well you explain your reactions. Thank you and happy listening! lol

If you like the shift in Obsession you will love Tempo and Monster. If you want to hear some of their slower songs I would recommend Miracles in December or Let Me In.
