The original Avatar's Special Edition is actually better than the Theatrical Edition. The scenes where Grace talks about Sylwanin were completely absent from the main version because, technically, they weren't needed but they added much more depth to Grace as well as world building. If Way of Water has a Special Edition that's half that good, Cameron could milk it by releasing it in cinemas just like he did for the first movie.

Chris Gore is a dunce. An opinionated dunce but still a dunce who thinks he's a better writer than filmmakers like James Cameron and George Lucas. I looked at his filmography and the idiot hasn't accomplished jack shit. James Cameron and George Lucas accomplished more as whippersnappers than Gore has accomplished in 57 years. He's like Mike Stoklassa except not quite as bitter.
I left a comment on one of his videos with the Critical Drinker, whom I actually like but the Drinker is nowhere near as intelligent as he thinks he is. He clearly didn't understand that Annihilation's alien was intentionally designed to operate outside of human logic and has the same retarded view of Cameron and Lucas' writing abilities that Gore has. Anyway, in my comment, I pointed out that the ONLY objectively bad dialogue in cinema is Yoda's dialogue because he can't say his sentences correctly. Thing is, even that dialogue was done INTENTIONALLY. Not only that, but I might be the only person in the world who actually points out that it was bad because everybody loves Yoda. Any other dialogue that is "objectively bad" at least follows a coherent sentence structure.

A lot of questions some people might have were answered in the HQs.
Also, Spider was never adopted by Jake and Neytiri (maybe by Jake at the very end of the movie, but even that is a stretch, cause it isn’t made clear). He was raised by a human couple that were among the humans allowed to stay in Pandora, but he really connected with the way of the Na’vi and especially with the Sully children, spending a lot of time with them, so he’s a lot like the “neighbor friend” in that sense. Jake even calls him a “stray cat” and Neytiri freaking hates his guts.

Avatar and this sequel have basic stories in a unique world. Pandora is it's originality. It's direction is it's originality. It's visuals are its originality. And it's always executed well by Cameron.

My problem with Avatar is the absolute hatred of humanity it has. The movie never addresses anything deep about the humans. For so much of a businessman the expedition was, he never thought about trading with the Na'vi. For so much of a seasoned soldier Quarich was, he never considered that their military resources were limited. They didn't have ammo factories, gun factories, pharmaceuticals factories, tool factories, nothing to replace the tons of bullets, weapons, and machinery that they'd run through even ina successful bombing of the Na'vi. The Na'vi having home tactical advantage is such an understatement to a level no one has ever experienced. Quarich didn't understand it even when he said "Everything in this planet is out to kill you." What did he expect out of bombing the tree of souls? That the Na'vi would just give up? They'd even more ravenously try to execute every single human for the rest of their lives and Quarich, again, simply doesn't have the replacement of soldiers of tools, of guns and ammo, of anything that they'd need for an eternal war against a species that hates his kind with a passion and has nothing to lose.
Avatar didn't even go all the way to make humans actually badass evil imperialist mothereffers that even the audience can hop on and hate.
The movie didn't address the situation on earth. "The earth is dying" is the only explanation we get. You'd think the ship to save the earth would be filled with the best and brightest of humanity to try and make things work, but things just don't, gradually fall apart and the humans are left with the last resort option of going to war for the mineral that'd save the earth. Boom. Better story right there... but that isn't what the ship is filled with.
But there is a line in the movie where the businessman says he's tried offering medicine to the Na'vi and the Na'vi rejects his offer. And my answer to that is... Is that the ONLY thing the Na'vi could need? They could have exchanged guns and technology for mining permissions. No, the Na'vi are happy with their arrows and flying mounts. They could have offered manpower to help the Na'vi with problems against another tribe. No, the Na'vi is completely and absolutely at peace with their surrounding tribes and have no feuds whatsoever. They could have offered farming techniques or other practical knowledge that would still help the Na'vi if they rejected technology. No, because Ewa gives everything to the Na'vi.
That's the last I have to say, on the virtue of being not human and primitive... The Na'vi are perfect... So perfect... That even their God... acts openly in their favor. Nothing up to interpretation, which is what causes horrific religious violence... Nope... Ewa is an actual thing that exists while humans are still trying to figure that out. The movie might as well be saying that humans are so shit that their god just noped out of the earth and went to pandora, and when humans appeared, it helped the Na'vi expel them.

Future movies are supposed to address the fate of Earth and humanity.
I understand your issues. I just found Jesus you might say. I dont believe in this Eywa nonsense. But these Avatar characters believe in Eywa as we should believe in Jesus.
Paganism has been a real problem, keeping many cultures apart. These movies paint fairy tales about natives and their pagan beliefs. Hollywood is run by antichrists. They hate Jesus. Heck, there are porn producers blatantly stating that they hate Christ. So of course they're not going to add or attribute any great Christian values. They have antichrist agendas and it shows when you look at the rainbow programming on Disney+
Jesus was meant to and succeeded in bringing many pagan cultures together under one name and one God. Jesus ended ritual sacrifice, creating a mutual love and respect for our fellow man. For our neighbors. But if you read up on pagan cultures in the Congo, they're still eating their neighbors. Good thing for Jake Sully that Eywa was looking for him to make that kind of sacrifice....
I love watching Cameron's craftsmanship with 3D cinematography. Hes the greatest filmmaker working today. That's the biggest reason why I'm excited to these Avatar movies. I want to see what else Cameron can do.

@@tabaflip I think James Cameron might be a bit of a misanthrope. Honestly, considering he's surrounded by the worst of humanity in Hollywood, I don't really blame him. Knowing that people like Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Ezra Miller, Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger and Amber Heard are allowed to waltz around scott free until the rats decide to throw one or two of them under the bus to protect their own arses must affect a guy's faith in humanity after a while. No wonder George Lucas got the hell out of dodge as soon as he was rich enough to do so. Frankly, Cameron should have followed his and Francis Ford Coppola's examples. He has enough money to fund his movies independently at this point, so he doesn't need to work with the corrupt shitstains in the mainstream movie industry anymore.

      @ArgentWolf95 Рік тому +3

I really respect Nomz and agree with a lot of his views on other things but Avatar isn't for me and the reasons here are my surface reasons, based on my perspective of the first movie. Is the new one really that black and white with the humans? I mean, I grew up with deeper sci fi that actually lets you interpret the questions it asks about it's themes.
Like let's use the environmentalism of the first movie. Why are the human fixating on Pandora, a planet they can't naturally breathe on that they have to clone the natives as biological machines to get around and interact? Sure, there's a unobtanium there but that isn't going to fix earth which was the whole point of the first expedition, right? A secure energy crisis caused by climate dystopia back home? Also if they can make an avatar, why don't the humans have advanced technology such as Cybernetic enhancements, or terraforming technology, technologies that are theoretical now.
Another criticism I have is, the humans have a Private Military Corporation full of veteran marines but apart from the scientists and Jake, everyone seems cartoonishly evil and bent on getting this unobtanium in a way that seems deliberate about how it's presented and done, so they use deforestation and military force to get what they want. I can get that, Corporate suits want results and don't care how, but there has to be a better solution.
Another criticism I got is, in a military operation, you need logistics, that gets your troops and tanks ammo. You have an air force of VTOLs and transport units. That sort of thing, another thing I gotta note is Cameron has some real biases against anything military that bows and arrows supposedly can beat armored attack vehicles, mech suits (which for some reason don't liok like they got any armor at all. They're exosuits but don't look equipped, still shouldn't be easy to take down by Na'vi weapons. Jake falling in love with Ney'tiri is fine, but he doesn't even teach the Nav'i basics of how humans operate in military tactics, just the general gist of how marines are would get you somewhere. Their victory disdn't feel earned because no matter how many bows and arrows you got, you're not going to have an easy time against mechanized infantry, vehicles you'd at least need C4 explosives or a rocket launcher to stop, and not one on the Nav'i side even steals human weaponry. The Planet of the Apes movies got this point pretty well, it's a basic part of warfare. When your enemy has bigger and better weapons, you use guerilla warfare to get those better weapons, then ambush your enemy, sabotage. and then attack strategically. I don't excactly know what the Navi weapons are made of, but no wood is going to beat metal armor without at least a grenade on the arrow. Also note how no one in the Human military opposes the corporation?
Ultimately, it's an entertaining movie with a very strong amti-human bias with too little nuance for my tastes, and I say this as someone who liked back in the day, but as a much older adult than the late teen I was, I don't really see it as deeply as I used to after ten years of doing my own writing, learning history, philosophy and stuff. The storyline needs you enjoy the visuals so you miss that it's very black and white with it's moralization themes, which aren't going to reach everyone.
I also have to level a criticism that supposedly anyone slightly criticizing the movie is somehow a hater. I hate that fandom word now, it's a word that deliberately brands "hey, these people are haters, they're just nutjobs with nothing good to say" people into tribalism which isn't true.
I don't hate the movie. I just don't see the movie as hype and well. these past few years I've had a lot of environmentalism shoved into my head by my government and these Just Stop Oil activists blocking streets in the UK, when they d things that are just wrong. It's made me less receptive to Environmentalist themes in my fiction. I want to enjoy a good story, not be subtly lectured on why humans are always these evil destroyers of nature as opposed to being capable of both destroying and saving it.
I might watch the second movie, but James Cameron's recent interviews also made me question his writing as well as some of his ideas in Terminator: Dark Fate.

@@tabaflip You're wrong about something. The RDA actually had automated factories on Hell's Gate which built all the military equipment. It's in the lore that their stuff is made in situ using advanced automated 3D printing tech.

Avatar The Way of water is an 6/10 objectively. Mostly because. Why, didn’t Jake and neytiri connect all there kids too the tree. Like they did with kitty. So they all can have tree powers. And shit. Plus the spider kid should have been set up in the last movie. Also the Colonel making a clone. Should’ve been set up in the last movie. or at least teased. Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. My not objective rating is 8/10. My favorite characters are Jake. His father and skills were great to see. In modern day movies. Plus his wife Neytiri helping him to be a bit softer on his kids. Which is good for their improvement. Neteyam was a great. older brother. He will still follow the rules but when his families in trouble he will have to save them. Kiri was good I just wish others in the family have a power.
Spider was really good. I just wish he didn’t save the villain. It makes some sense but you know he’s gonna come back in the next movie the villain of course. Neytiri was ok. I just wish the dislike for Spider was shown more. That would have boosted her character up for me. That’s the objective take. For her but I still enjoyed her. I didn’t like Lo'ak. His character at the end of the movie really improved him to just an OK for me. I wish his mistakes were at least lessened. What I mean by that at least just three. Because it felt like Way too much. But he is a teenager so it makes sense. But I don’t wanna wash that too much. And a high frame rate for me it didn’t really bother at all I really enjoyed it. I play PC games at High frame rates . all the time so it was good. To be honest I wish they kept it at that high frame rate the whole movie. But it’s understandable. For the fight scenes. I saw the movie today and I thought it was enjoyable. I liked the kids and the family bond between them and their parents. It was just nice to see a loving family where everybody wants the best for everyone else. There have been so many movies on dysfunctional and abusive dynamics in families in Hollywood that it's just nice to see one where everything is based on love - even the conflicts within the family.
I hope Cameron gets to complete his avatar series because for me they are great escapism.
I don't think the writing is always the best, but it's not that kind of movie. It's it wants to be a fun and emotional ride and people have to be in that mindset when they go to watch it.
I think it's a waste of time to try and talk sense into/bashing the nay sayers. I tried to have a discussion with one earlier and by the end I realized I was probably talking to either a child or and adult with a childish mindset. It was basically a "no you" type of response I got and then I dropped it because it doesn't matter when the person you talk to isn't interested in actually discussing a film but just wants to be right and own you. Whatever. Their cynicism has caused them to miss out on fun experience which is a shame because movies the last few years have been utterly pathetic. There a reason I don't watch movies anymore. I used to watch around a hundred movies a year, no joke.
Avatar is the fourth movie I have watched this year and I probably one of the best ones. I saw Threads (ironically, only 4 days before Russia invaded Ukraine, so that was fun), The Northman (which I didn't like, but I respect), Where the Crawdads Sing (basically super shitty YA love triangle that was marketed as a cool crime thriller) and then Avatar, The Way of Water which was the only movie I say this year that made me feel good. When you only watch four movies a year, you learn to appreciate some good escapism. I don't regret spending money on this film. I have reached the age where I understand that my time is finite and money isn't hanging on trees. I spend my time and money very carefully nowadays. Avatar is 3 hours and 12 minutes long. I expected an easy to follow story with some emotional pay offs and some cool spectacle. I got what I paid for and I got to forget about my worries for 3 hours and 12 minutes.
Happy costumer. Though, if it had been longer I would have peed myself by the end, lol.

Unfortunately as much as ITCH to watch the spoiler section of this movie, this is the one movie that I actually have to exercise restraint. I caved for Spider-Man: No Way Home, and although that didn’t ruin my experience in the theater I still wish I’d had the strength to pull away from the leaks and spoilers. I’ve been anticipating this movie since seeing this movie for the first time nearly 6 years ago, I’ve CRAVED more of this world. And now, i only know as much as the tv spots have shown me, and it’s taking all my willpower to pause and turn away. Especially since I will be seeing it Saturday. One more day and I can be set free from the waiting. What I have seen of your review just makes me happy, I’ve been getting so much Avatar hate videos show up in my recommends that it’s nice to just see someone cut through the bullshit for once. YES ANNOMALY I KNEW YOU HAD GOOD TASTE!!!
Let me just share my thoughts :
Back when AVATAR was released, there were news articles depicting a large number of people feeling depression and suicidal after watching the movie. As someone who felt this depression after seeing the movie for the first time in cinemas, I can tell you that the depression does not stem from the want to be on Pandora, the depression stems from the fact that this Earth IS Pandora.
The depression settles in as more realizations begin to occur. Humanity is allowing itself to become a disease to the planet, all for the sake of material gain. In any movie review of James Cameron’s AVATAR, we are mostly told it is praised for it’s CGI and not for it’s story. Which for the most part, lacked originality.
Comparisons are made to previous stories. Stories such as Ferngully, Pocahontas, and Dances with Wolves. Yet, what astounds me is that while people compare AVATAR to these films, they do not compare it to the events and situations that these films are focused on. Events and situations that are still ongoing to this day.
AVATAR uses symbolism and imagery to portray the atrocities committed by the Corporatocracy.
And, how our ignorance not only allows these atrocities to occur - but, also has halted our evolution.
AVATAR is not only a social commentary on the Extortion of Natural Resources, Exploitation of Indigenous Peoples, or Aboriginal Genocide. It is a simulation of what life can be..
Every claim in my analysis can be researched by anyone and a clear consensus can be reached.
The film not only shows that the planet we are from is the mother of all life, it shows an alternative form of humanity. The Na'Vi are representative of Neohumanism*, the next stage in our evolutionary path. The humans depicted in the film are clearly shown to be from the Western world. Working for Corporations that seek to maximize profits regardless of social or environmental loss. So, what we have here is a film depicting two possible forms of humanity, the old paradigm vs the new paradigm,
I hope my video shows you a new perspective on life or affirms your perspective. Enjoy.

The whales, like unobtanium, are just a mcguffin. I just hope they established by now enought world building to not put in the plot another mcguffin that brings the humans to Pandora. 3D good? avatar 1 good?
okay. i have to respectfully disagree.
i didn't like the original pocahontas, and i sure as shit won't like the blue remake of it.
the effects were the one thing ppl dug about that movie.
this is also how i've fallen for the trap, to watch it. friends told me the effects are amazing. should've been a red flag back then, cause why the hell would nobody even talk about the story? and i'm not kidding, here in switzerland, not one person ever spoke with me about the movies story. everybody was just like "the effects, man".
ppl have been mesmerized by the shiny lights. wish the first movie would release now, so that it would have to fend for the box office, without the 2 crutches it had. the return of 3D (and we all seen what that was worth, aside from making every TV a tad bit more expensive, it made no positiv numbers in the long run) and the tech that was impressive.
in current year, the effects would spell monday at best, cause we've seen it all now, from unbelievably well made CGI, to the worst imaginable.
gonna reserve my judgement for this one if i ever watch it, but as the first one is one of three movies that i've fallen asleep to, in the cinema.
and i feel like i won't put my feet in those waters.
but glad if you liked it, hope you're ready for camerons eradication of testosterone.
that's the actual issue. cameron opened the flood gates for the CGI fest we endured. he is the architect of the woke CGI movie era we had now. even if he may have never really planned the woke part.
whilst he tried to raise the bar, as south park put it so well, he somehow opened up a portal, right into hell.
funniest shit, not even 2 weeks after i've seen the first one, my life started to fall apart in lightspeed.
gonna check that maya calendar, and see if 2009 spelled a blue catastrophe being released on the world.

You don't have to be wholly original but if you can tell a story that has been seen before... aand do it well it will be enjoyable. It is why the heroes journey is and has existed for aa long time..... really the only thing I disliked/nitpicked for the movie is... 10+ years waiting for the second movie and then they had to announce it would be another one every year or two. THere is a part of me that wants that idea to fail cause if it is built around stretching out over several movies something that could be told in a trilogy no. If it is something that is going to go like say John Carter where after the third movie the main character changes to the children and then grandchildren... I could go with that.

The best performances in the movie are from Sam Worthington and Stephan Lang. Every single time those two were onscreen, especially when they were sharing it, they stole the show and even surpassed legends like Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Kate Winslet. Bringing back Miles Quaritch could have very easily backfired but to be honest, I don't think this movie would be anywhere near as good without him. Sam Worthington and Stephan Lang have excellent hero and villain chemistry so whenever they're interacting, even if they aren't sharing the same space, I feel like they hate each other but also have a mutual respect in the way that any true warrior will respect a worthy opponent.
Zoe Saldana did well but didn't have as much screen time as she deserved. The standout moment from her was when Neteyam died and, I won't lie, I cried during that scene. I didn't actually care about Neteyam himself but seeing Neytiri become hysterical over his body was heartbreaking. Then seeing her transition from grief-stricken mother into deadly warrior within the span of just a couple of minutes was chilling. She pulled herself together and, without saying a word, you knew she was out for blood just from the way she carried herself as she stormed to her Ikran.
Sigourney Weaver was a bit shaky as Kiri, which is understandable considering she's in her seventies and playing a teenager. I don't think that's ever been done before, not even in voice acting, and it must have been surreal to have Sam Worthington, who's 27 years younger than she is, calling her "Baby girl". However, the CGI genuinely made her look like a teenage Na'vi and to her credit, Sigourney still has enough physical strength to move like one, which is perhaps most notable when she hops onto her "mum's" incubator tank without any visible effort. My only real issue is some of her line deliveries. Saying dialogue doesn't involve her age, unless all the physical exertion left her so exhausted that she couldn't speak as effortlessly as usual.
Kate Winslet was good but Ronal basically shamed the title of Tsahik, something that was thankfully intentional since Neytiri scornfully said "You are Tsahik!" at one point. Dang, if she had such disgust for Ronal, imagine if Mo'at had been there. They would probably have come to blows due to how drastically different their approaches to being the Na'vi's spiritual leaders were. Speaking of Mo'at, we barely saw her at all and I don't remember her even getting a line, so I hope she gets a bigger role in the next film. In the first Avatar, she managed to be authoritative without ever being outright confrontational like Ronal was and in some ways, it actually made Mo'at come across as the stronger of the two, like she was so confident in her abilities and connection to Eywa that she had no need to compensate by riding into battle whilst pregnant or constantly seeking conflict with her guests.

What does being in a packed theater have to do with the dialogue…

From what I’ve heard it’s cliche and plays on the idea of colonization/conquistador, industrialization and manifest destiny in space in the future. Which that doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie, the first one did the same, played on the idea and history of colonization and the greed and abuse of early private corporations in pre industrialization and industrialization age
I thought the first was good too, I saw it in theaters on mushrooms lol but overtime it’s just gotten kinda boring

    Avatar 1 was entertaining.
Avatar 2 is entertaining in a different way.
But more than a 7/10 for both is edging on thirsting.
Thirsting for what, is different for everyone, but it is what it is...

I liked the movie and how it looks, I think it's a good movie but it does have a lot of problems I can see like the middle of the movie is pretty boring for me and nothing happens, I don't like the human kid (spider) because he has little character development over the movie's runtime with him making stupid decisions, and some of the characters are pretty generic but that's just what I think, pls don't be angry at me.
