    the hair situation is so disheartening cuz as you stated we Keep having this conversation and i’m sick of companies (and other stan’s) trying to justify it by saying it’s just a hairstyle. cuz like even if it WAS just a hairstyle it is never treated as that, but more as an indicator that someone is a “gangster” or a “bad boy” like you wld never see a boy grp doing a bubbly concept n randomly giving someone locs…..just shows most of these companies only see black ppl as a monolith n caricature which is crazy to still be doing in 2024 :///

    These dudes are basically writing their own music, making their own choreo, directing their own videos and doing whatever the fuck it takes to make it… I am going to support them 1000% because I can tell they deserve the world and the talent speaks for itself❤️‍🔥

    honestly the frustration about the hair situation got in the way of me enjoying the comeback to the fullest. the boys really worked hard on this though, so i'll just stream the music, watch variety content (very cool that there is any at all!) and hope that they will find a way to thrive further, i love them so much

    The lack of subs REALLY is an issue. Not just on the variety content but the songs especially.
    If you look up the lyrics to any of the 3 songs on this albums, it's freaking increadible. They are so moving and poethic, and every song was written by Tag.
    They wanna market them as self produced, but then do a disservice to them, by not highlighting the strength of their writting in their songs, in a sea of generic pop music.

    18:38 exactly this because they got Tag in dreads in what appears to be an interrogation with a white policeman?? detective?? idk so it’s harder to comprehend what the vision is for the mv or understand/justify how “bohemian” the look actually is. It's so disappointing because their debut album is one of my favorite kpop albums. I've been listening to Fxx Off since it released, and I def missed Jay's voice but I still love it...... this is my first time watching the music video. I don't want this to hinder their future and I'm worried about what will happen next for them

    Thanks for talking about the cultural appropriation ! I'm a white dummy and it always throws me in a loop where I'm trying to understand what's okay and what's not while fighting my biases (the cognitive ones not the idols ones). For example I still don't understand why music (as well as dance) are rarely considered appropriation, when black people basically invented music as we know today (hip hop, jazz, rock, punk, and everything that comes from those including electronic music I believe). "No need to understand, accept first" is one of the most significant lessons I learned these last 5 years.

    • @achgrave
      @achgrave 2 місяці тому

      Yeah about music it's people don't give credits and don't want to acknowledge that everything comes from black music, so it's again how they take it and exploit and it's so successful when whites took it and made their own, but when black people do the same it's looked down on

    Fr I've been very disappointed in armada for a lot of things. But the thing with the subs is crazy, like I believe one pact has a large international fanbase, more than in Korea I'd say and tag's pen is noo joke! I've seen some fansubs and it feels very personal and emotional. And the c.a, after the backlash they got from the fans, I doubt they will do it again.. hope not! Cause twice is unnacceptable. Thank u for your reaction, I was waiting for it 🥰

    Why did I watch this mv twice and only now with your reaction clock that they were blurring out the dreads? I legit thought it was just an aesthetic camera choice for those interogation scenes 🙃 I guess I'm not on that part of kpop twitter cus all the controversy was not on my radar at all lol.

    • @pratfallpratt8998
      @pratfallpratt8998 3 місяці тому +8

      I'm kinda of 2 minds about it. On the one hand, every time I've asked a friend of color who actually has locs or braids their thoughts on it, they universally have been like "why would I care, they're not of any religious or spiritual meaning to me, it's just a style choice" and are really only offended when they see locs that are poorly taken care of. But I know that my handful of black friends in my mostly white midwestern communities can't speak for everyone. Different cultures around the world of all different colors have likely had locs or braids as a part of their cultural hair styles at some point in their history, but you can't just ignore that at our current point in the timeline they have significant racial and cultural associations. And if these companies and idols aren't sensitively considering that, it can mean that they think they can get away with other things that are unquestionably offensive. So on the other hand, while many or even most black fans may not care what hairstyle an idol has, I think pushing the kpop world to think more about issues of appropriation and cultural sensitivity is kinda necessary in order to make kpop a more inclusive space where all fans of any color or culture can feel safe.

      @@pratfallpratt8998 hmm, think of it this way: the only time they put tag in dreads was when his character in the mv is being treated like a criminal. you'll notice in kpop that the only time they put their idols in culturally black hairstyles is during 'hip'/bad boy concepts- how many times have you noticed those same idols in dreads during refreshing or soft concepts? its the korean association with blackness as being 'thug' that's racist: there's a cultural issue of koreans cosplaying with blaccents and slurs and black hairstyles as a way to appear more legitimately 'hardcore' (jisung from stray kids and his use of the n-word in his early raps come to mind)... basically, using cultural signifiers from black communities to *specifically* signal aggression and violence, which is obviously a bigoted stereotype. it's the context of how these styles are used moreso than their use at all

      @@laraharvey5780 That is an EXCELLENT point. I feel kind of stupid tbh for not thinking of it that way from the start. But maybe it's bc every time idols try to use African American cultural signifiers to appear more "hardcore" it never works the way they intend it to and just comes off as goofy, so the association w/ a negative stereotype kind of went over my head bc I was too busy laughing at their grills and plastic dreads lol.

    I feel like the middle ground when it comes to appropriation doesn’t actually exist… since it hurts people and upsets them it shouldn’t happen, period… I don’t care if you wanna look like a hippie or bohemian or whatever, it is what it is… and if someone says it offends them then it is offensive… so really how is it hurting other people to just NOT do it since they’ve been told repeatedly not to for good reason?😕I hate that this is even a topic anymore… and many artists I care about have been trashed or ruined by this sort of nonsense… why can’t we learn a fucking lesson??

    I respect that they delayed the release of the MV because of the obviously bad hair choice… they actually listened to the fans before the video was even out since we saw the teaser… I just feel like it’s a very bad sign that this would even happen in this current time - TAG is obviously influenced by western artists so I would hope he would know better, or Jay would know better and would tell them… I just… sigh*
    I also wish they had been able to reshoot some things for the video but it’s understandable since he had this hair THE ENTIRE TIME so they couldn’t edit without reshooting the entire thing… its all just so frustrating and sad… and the CEO thing pisses me off too… wtf is this company even doing with themselves?? Is it actually smaller than JUST B’s BlueDot? I mean… maybe?😳

    • @pushumonster

      Hello ! The problem is what we call cultural appropriation. Wearing a hairstyle, clothing etc. from a culture that is and has been repressed throughout history can be disrespectful. Especially when it's done in a superficial way as if it's just a fun/beautiful costume, without considering the original deep meaning or necessity.

    • @BotaliaX
      @BotaliaX 3 місяці тому

      @@pushumonster I see, so something like wearing the Nazi symbol in the clothing as fashion, I can see why it would be troublesome to people. I saw the agency’s statement saying it’s referencing Bohemia style, I did a bit searching and found the cultural appropriation aspects about that, but it appears not just Tag but all members in the MV are actually in Bohemia style as well by the way they dress, so I’m a bit puzzled as why people’s only upset about Tag’s hair but not everyone’s fashion overall, would you also know why?

      @@laraharvey5780 I guess because I am new to K-pop I was not aware of this existing stereotype issue so didn’t see it in a “bad” way at all but just think that they’re trying to break free from old life styles(at least from what I can grasp in the MV). And if you have to use the word “criminal”, the first one came to my mind was actually Yedam’s character, not Tag, so I do feel like there are some perspective differences here, but now I understand where those people are coming from, thanks for the contexts!

    Scandal oh please? Lots of group have done this, but isn't it good that culture is to be shared. How often I see people having a hairstyle or something else from a different culture and nobody says a word but when it comes to a certain race that's like untouchable (such double standards) also I personally didn't think the character tag played was a criminal, I thought Yedam's character was more of a criminal. Maybe people's minds automatically think in that direction because it's so stuck in their mind (with media and stuff) like for some reason people automatically go often in a negative direction and blow everything out of proportion. Then again I'm not from America so I may see it differently because of the way I was raised but I think it all seems very soft which I find sad (all that hard work and people are just gonna hate because they have nothing better to do)
