The Police RENEWED - Driven To Tears 😭 (FYYC's Extended Remix & Special Video)

- Pressured by their record company for a new record and a prompt return to touring, the Police released their third album, Zenyatta Mondatta, in the autumn of 1980 after frenzied recording sessions at the Dutch Wisseloord Studios that summer. In subsequent interviews, Sting said he regretted the rushed recording for the album.
Although not released as a single, Driven To Tears appeared on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The political overtones of the song represent the beginning of the political activism that would recur throughout much of Sting's and the Police's subsequent music. The theme of the song is the divide between rich and poor. It was one of the first politically themed songs the Police released. The song asks questions but finds no answers. Sting about the song: "[…] I wonder if we are making any progress at all, or are we now totally immune to the images of horror that appear daily, everywhere we turn?" Summers himself never was that enthusiastic about Zenyatta, but considered Driven to Tears one of the better songs Sting wrote that formed ‘the meat’ of the album.
The song in A minor incorporates a powerful eight bar guitar solo by Andy Summers, one of his few solos on Zenyatta Mondatta. Some critics consider it one of his best ones. Later versions even more emphasised the guitar part, which really suited the song. So in this remix I tripled the (guitar-)breaks in the song, thus giving more space to the guitar to play a more dominant role, culminating in a short guitar driven climax in the third break. But I also tried to emphasize Copelands beautiful drumfills. Especially in early live versions you can hear him doing this a lot, giving it a special touch compared to the studio version. Unfortunately, that diminished somewhat in later versions. So I have tried to (amongst others) accentuate those distinctive drum fills in this remix. Enjoy it! As always I’m curious to know what you think of it. So please let me know.
The video comes from various sources, I tried to make a tailor-made suit for the remix. All footage used is around on the internet, but I reworked it a bit.
By the way: the Police seem to have recorded an early version of Driven To Tears in Melbourne's Armstrong Studios on 1980-03-16. Where is that version? Does anyone happen to have that one? Than please share it!
And last but not least, ultimately this is all for a greater purpose. If our protagonist(s) ever listen to this: come on guys, especially Sting, the years are seriously starting to count, so surprise the world, break the myth of The Police as a closed legend, visit your old friends, conquer the demons the past, and do what many people worldwide don't expect, but are really waiting for: rearrange a few of each other's solo songs, give each other some space and ready it is: THAT DAMN SIXTH POLICE ALBUM!

Hi again FYYC, this time the video worked (follow on from comment below) : Finally after having been 'Driven to Tears' (by my PC) but also having recently been to see the latest Dune movie I decided to use 'The Voice' - on my PC. @@fyyc HI. I have been following, buying and collecting the Police since 1979, since the release of the single "Message in a bottle" and I have heard versions of the Police songs. Your creations, being a "purist", have never bothered me, because they maintain their original features, indeed, highlighting sounds that only a trained ear can hear. Today technology allows incredible things, but if you don't know WHERE to intervene, HOW to intervene, on such particular songs, musical rubbish can be created. In my opinion, as long as you are not already the "fourth" policeman (and that green logo really tickles my imagination...) you should receive an invitation from someone as a "person informed of the facts", as they say in police jargon. Congratulations again.🤝

And more than they say or maybe admit, all three of them look so incredibly tied to their (shared) past: Sting tours the world with his honorable songs, but the Police material remains the spinal core of his repertoire. Stewart is clearly on memory lane with his recent edition of the 'Police diaries' and before that the rearrangements of Police stuff for orchestra. With varying results, if you ask me. And Andy plays solo, or with the cover band 'Call the Police' (what's in a name), especially Police songs. Also so so, if you ask me. It's clear that the past does not let them go. So why not, for the sake of mankind or music history, join forces one more time to surprise the world? It shouldn't be that difficult for them (with sufficient manpower, resources and finances - I might assume) to at least do what I (barely time nor resources) have been doing for a while....

Driven to tears, like voices inside my head definitely had scope to be more dynamic and extended they were very hasty on zen lp 3 weeks only hence it does still need a revamped .
Failed, but still good 86 remix don't stand, trying to make up, promised fuller flat police remix great hits, actually in 86, didn't materlise.
And Even in 2020 period Andy said they had plans for more re issues.
Strange band the police as the riffs and extended live version are mind blowing good.. I guess hence this exception here, fan like urself, making up for what they saddly culdnt deliver. Police politics destruction of what culd have been too late now for them.

@@fyyc It will never happen im afraid to say , at the tail end of the reunion tour Stewart and Stingo were counting down to the last gig to be over . Its nigh on twenty years ago and i think if Stingo was so inclined to write songs for The Police it would've happened around the reunion tour time .
Stingo didnt want to write and Stewart told sting that there was no pressure from him or Andy to do so .
The Police are over but we have music to listen to ( have been listening to the police since 79) and now we have the likes of this talented person to breathe life into old songs .
