Congratulations, Rajini, it is an inspiring lecdem on the harmonium. The instrument is ageless. The way it enlivens a bhajan or any spiritual singing programme is truely amazing. One has to experience it. Personally I enjoy harmonium in bhajans as its tonal value brings out the true spirit of bhajans. After a lull, harmonium is widely being used in Indian bhajan programmes, like Bjajan Samrat, Sai bhajans, Namasankeerthanams, Hindustani singinging etc. It is really nice to listen to your lecdem on the anatomy of a harmonium. In good old Tamil movie melodies, harmonium used to be very popular. Even today, several music directors take to this rare instrument.
Nice way of focussing on Harmonium.

I recently came across the various instruments of different countries, and for India it was Harmonium. I have seen it from the outside. But for the first time I saw the tiny minute inside detail of how it is built. Earlier days this instrument was seen in every South Indian Brahmin houses. Every village had at least two Bhaghavathar. It was sort of a ritual for the Brahmin girls to learn Carnatic music for the purpose to show the grooms family that the girls know how to sing or how to play a VEENA. I am sorry to say that the Harmonium is a forgotten instrument. Mrs Rajini Parameswaran has taken pains to explain about playing this instrument and also the various ways of using keys within an hour. It is high time that the present generation try to learn how to play a Harmonium and popularise. In India all the Music directors bring out the best tunes through the Harmonium first to compose the songs.. A very good workshop by Mrs Rajini Parameswaran . Thanks to SSSGC for this Workshop.
