    Ben is so right about being the younger child, and your parents not caring by the time they get to your high school years. I have two older sisters, and my parents were so strict with them, but by the time I was a teenager and my sisters had moved out my parents were over it. I did literally whatever I wanted, I'm trans and my mom's reasoning for giving me so much freedom is "we didn't have to worry about you getting pregnant" lol, like that's the only thing they had to worry about.

    My oldest sister keeps calling herself the good kid but she was the one sneaking out, crashing at strangers houses in a different state, she got brought home by the cops for driving when she was 14, she did a lot of underage drinking. My middle sister went to raves and didn't come home for weeks at a time, was suspended for school for alcohol, and the only thing I really got in trouble for was skipping class and getting in school suspension. I am the good kid! The youngest.

    I have the same opinion with Cristine about her punishment. It’s so dumb, if she had the car for herself only then fine, but she took the kids in the neighborhood to school, which was 45 mins away. By doing that they had forbid the others to get to school too, not only Cristine. Idk what of it in Canada, but in the states, not letting children going to school is considered an act of abandonment, and will be taken care of by children protection.

    I was punished for forging my parent's signature. It was for our spelling test and teachers have parents sign to check on our work. My parents were too busy to sign. I was caned by the teacher as punishment. I had full marks btw for all of that but they were again too busy to sign for the 4th and 5th time, so i decided to sign for them. Got caught, punished by the cane again. I never cared to do well in any subjects since.

    I have wayyyy stricter parents like even before quarantine, I am never allowed out on school days (ac I don't even think about going out on school days that's ridiculous) and even on weekends I have to tell my mom who, where, when, what and all the itty bitty details before she lets me hang with friends IN THE DAY. And I only get allowed out with friends if I finish all my school work + practicing instruments + a lot of other work my mom gives me. So by the end of everything, I pretty much only go out like once every 3 months or something. OH by the way, Im almost 16..

    And see how they react lol 😂

    Normally it bugs me when people who aren't parents make comments on parenting. But you guys actually hit the nail on the head. We're learning as we go and our kids teach us as much as we try to teach them.

    • @graytart
      @graytart 4 роки тому +12

      Janai Gariety People who aren’t parents can still have opinions about parenting, because they were once kids and experienced parenting. Just like people don’t have to be doctors to have opinions about health care, because they have experienced it as patients. Having kids does not miraculously make people expert at parenting. Evidence of that is all around us, every day.

    You guys are awesome! I love all your insights and thought processes! I just would like to say one small thing...in this video Christine said she was a good kid followed up by I got good grades... not all kids who don't get good grades are bad kids. I know you aren't saying that but I just want some kids to know they aren't bad if they aren't getting good grades! Sometimes other things are happening that makes it hard to get good grades.

    The worst thing I did in school was tearing up a physics test I cheated on and still failed 😆 without anyone knowing I threw the scraps in the trash. But after an hour the teacher somehow foud out and I had "the talk" with him and school councelor.
    But paradoxically I wasn't really punished by the school or my parents. I think they thought it was so out of character for me that they didn't know how to appropriately approach it so they left me be.
    (but I was punished way worse by my mother throughout my childhood for sillier things so it balances out.)

    hmm. I got a strange combo. So when my brother(whose 5 years older) was in middle/high school, he didn’t party or anything, he used to game and play video games to REALLY wee hours in the morning so our parents locked down our internet access. Certain sites were blocked, and we had a timer limit on our laptops, not allowed to install anything. After he graduated they kinda loosened the reigns, since they knew I didn’t plan on staying up till 4 am. In terms of partying I really had and still have little to no inclination towards it. Just not my thing. So I guess in that way me and my brother were good kids. Also I hold little to no grudge cuz we close and our personalities are very similar.
